  1. True- plus I just remembered I would have to add on sales tax from anything ordered from CA so it would be best to check around.
  2. swans is my closest supplier-Would like to try a container wax and wondering if anyone has tried the J-60 paraffin or any other from swans- Thanks
  3. If you can prove me wrong that would be great;)
  4. I hate to say it but they will always turn brown because the natural oil in the petals will go rancid it might be sooner or it might be later but it will happen. you can use silk flower petals just be sure you remove any plastic parts first.
  5. I tried this base and I like the goats milk base better, I don't add anything to mine for lather, but I do add 1/8 tsp of beeswax per 4 oz of base for hardness I also let mine cure for a week or 2 before use and they last a long time- remember they need to dry out between use so make sure you have a good draining soap dish- also wholesale supplys web site has a fragrance oil chart you can print out to help f/o % per ounce of base. Hope this helps;)
  6. This is a late reply but Emu oil whipped into unrefined shea butter works wonders- I first tried it from a e-bay seller sher essence store -I loved it it's been the only thing that works for me, now I make my own - I make it for my sisters baby too- emu oil is $$$ but a little goes a long way.
  7. Thanks for all the replys and thank you judy for the link. I don't know what to think about this co-worker One time I made some soap as a gift for another co-worker and this same person went around saying that she thought it smelled awful . Plummeria It smelled great and my gift receipient loved it . I will stick with the parasoy I am using and when I gain more experience maybe I can try something else;)
  8. She has asked me several times and if she was kinder I would be willing to share but now i just say The Store and leave it at that. I like your idea about the bizarre questions:grin2:
  9. Thanks for all the replys I will just slow poke along at my own pace and not listen to her. She hasn't offered up one of hers for all her bragging and bugging maybe I will ask, then again maybe not I think I will tell her my dog ate all my wax so i just quit
  10. It wasn't anyone here it was a co-worker who overheard me talking to someone else and now she keeps bugging me. Everything I have read here states you need to test. I feel like I am on the right track but I just started so I know I still have lots of testing to do , cure times , FO's , Burn tests - She keeps telling me she doesn't and hers are great- and she uses paraffin. I don't have experience so I wasn't sure.
  11. I plan to stay with what I started with. The reason why I am asking is a co-worker is bugging me to see one of my candles because she says she makes candles too- Paraffin- and she wants to compare mine to hers-she always brags how easy hers are to make and what is taking me so long. Well I just started and the ones I poured look nice but the first wick I had seemed to burn ok but I had just a faint Ht- Anyways I got some advice from a previous posted question which I plan to follow so I figure it will take awhile with testing, when I asked her how she got through her testing so quick she said she didn't have to test? So I thought am I just slow? Should I be catching on faster? Is parafin that easy to work with? Just curious what others thoughts were.
  12. My first wax is a soy paraffin blend would it be better to switch to paraffin to gain some experience, maybe not as hard to find wicks or FO that work then try a blend or does it really matter since everything has to be tested anyway? And if you had to start over with what you know now what kind of wax Soy, Paraffin or Blend would you use and why?
  13. Thank you for the replies- I made several for my first batch and will let them cure longer first before I try anything else. It is hard to have patience, I was so thrilled It is hard not to want to light everything and use up every FO:yay: Been Reading like crazy in all the forums alot of great information.
  14. Thanks -Swans website only states the mp 142 and no info came with the wax . I'll will try all the above . I bought some wick sample packs from peaks so I can test some different wicks also. Back to testing:)
