  1. I was reading the discription on that one at the supplyer, but it says that it may or may not mottle, and it is the mottleing that I am upset about. I know that I cannot get compleately translucent wax without going over to gel, I just want a translucent paraffin or paraffin/soy blend that will not mottle. Thank you for the suggestion though. Have you found that the 1343 is as unperdicatable as it sounds like it is?
  2. Ok ladies and gentlemen, here I go being a newbie pain in the butt again. I got the IGN-1313 because my local supplier said it would not mottle or snowflake and because it was "the most translucent" wax they had. I have tried 3Lb out of my 10lb slab now, and it all mottled. I heated it per the suppliers instructions to about 200 degrees and then added my FO and color. Then I pored it at 190 degrees. It still moddled. I did not want to use vybar because the description said that it would make the wax opaque and that is just not the look I wanted to go for. Does anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong, or another suggestion as to what wax I can get that would get me to the desired effect?
  3. Well, I did get it to break, but I missed the wraping step and a chunk flew and hit me right in the head. Next time I think I will wrap it.
  4. That was my next thought, after running it over anyway. But I live in a small apartment and I was worried about wax flying all over the place, will this break cleanly, or should i wrap it up first?
  5. I did not figure that I would need all that to just sell a few to friends. I have tested, I can say that, and we have been doing this for more than 9 days, I did not start posting here till well after we started. I know you guys and gals would not try to just bring me down, I guess I am just being really laid back at this point. At some point, I would love to make this a money maker, but for now, I am just happy that someone likes what me and my partner have made as a hobby. If this one order turned into something, then I most definitely will go through the process of getting insurance and setting my self up with a vendor license. I appreciate all your advice, I really do.
  6. I have a question to present to the group at large. Has anyone worked with IGN-1313, and if so, how did you break the stuff apart to get it into your pot? I have hit this with a meat cleaver, a hammer, a woodworking chisel, and i only got a small corner of it broken off the 10lb slab. Any suggestions would be most helpfully, and I am thinking i will have to run over it with my car soon.
  7. I use black color chips, a lot of them. maybe not the most cost effective, but has worked for me. I also find that the more opaque the wax is, the harder it will be to get a good dark black. Just my 2 cents.
  8. Well, keeping a few candles at work has finally paid off, in that one of my coworkers has not only make a purchase, but also a semi-custom order. I hope this is the beginging of good things for my little start up.
  9. I am new as well, but me personly, I am really bad at remembering to take the temp of my wax before I ad sent and color and have not had a problum with the candles I have made. I would give it a go and see what you come out with in the end. Do a safety test burn with on at home to make sure there are no ill effects, but I think you will be fine.
  10. I only really have one thing to say about this shop owner "There is no cure for stupid"-some comic whos name I cannot remember right now
  11. This tread done lead me to a question about storage. I have made so many votives and tarts and rose molds that I have no idea how to store them to keep them from getting messed up. Also, I love making candels, but now that i have a little stock *more than what I can use* I have no idea what to do with them all, any ideas?
  12. Well, i just got myself some mold tape from eBay, so I will let you all know how this works out.
  13. Have you used that Ducky? Does it work well?
  14. I am in PA myself, will have to check out my states website after my "hopefull" move with my partner into a apt. with more than 4 small rooms.
  15. Well thank you all for the help everyone, I found out that they are not self sealing, the hard way, LOL! A bit of puddy around the entire edge is what it took to keep my wax in. Oh well, live and learn. Another sealing question though, I have sean some type of foil tape used to seal molds, but I have no idea where to find it. Does anyone have any idea what it is called and where to get it?
  16. I understand what you are saying here Ducky. I think what I should have asked is if anyone knew where I could find the laws in may area that would apply to when and if I would have to register here
  17. Sure, picture is attached this this post. Thank you for the help.
  18. I am starting to think about doing this as a bussness as well, but I was only thinking about selling to my coworkers and maybe at flea markets. Would I need to regester as a bussness yet, or am I to small to worry about it at this point?
  19. Ok, this time I took all the advice from the vetern users, I did a search, I check the sticky topics and the FAQ's but I still cannot find an answer to this question. I just got some new rubber molds, and I did get some mold sealing putty from the candle suppy store, but I was not exactly inexpensive. I am looking for ideas on a cost effective way of sealing thease two piece (top and bottom) molds so that I do not end up with a mess of wax leaking from the sides of the mold.
  20. I just saw that wax in person at the candle suppy, and you are correct, that effect was really amazing and very nice. I will have to wait till I have money for supplies before I get some, but i defenetly would like to work with it sometime. Right now my big learning expireence of the day is trying to figure out the best thing to use for sealing the new rubber rose molds I just got. I will look thru the stickys for that one.
  21. Thank you for all the advice everyone. And you are correct fredron, i just found Candle and Supplies and drove out there yesterday as I am not far from Quakertown. I have learned a valuable lesson, that I can spend a lot of money in one shot without much thought in that store. I will have to remember to go in with a buget next time, LOL:D
  22. This may be the wrong place to ask this, but I am new to candle making and I am wondering where everyone gets there blends? I live in eastern PA, and the local craft stores have wax blocks, but not blends for votives. I do not have the kitchen space for making my own blends, and the prices I have seen online for shipping would be a bit much for me right now. Any suggestions?
  23. 'ello everyone. I actualy came to this site to hopefully get an answer to this very question. I cannot stand this snowy effect personly, and I was hoping that there was a way to stop this from happening. I am a beginer, and I really do not have the space to make my own blend for my votives. If anyone else has a way to get rid of this effect, please let me know!
