  1. Thanks you two. I don't know why I didn't use an electric melter last night--I just wanted to try my new tealight burner and now I'm very scared to try it again! Sooo...is it normal for wax to get so hot while using tealight burners? Those high temps. can't possibly be safe, right? Thanks for everything!
  2. I made my first tarts yesterday and melted one of them last night, using a tealight melter. I used 50%4630 and 50%4794 and 5% CS cucumber melon FO. Anyway, something told me to check the temp. while it was burning and it was 250 degrees!! Fastest flame I ever blew out in my life!! Any ideas as to what could be going on? Sorry for the stupid question, but I was never interested in tarts until I started making my own candles last year--and as I said, yesterday was my first attempt at making tarts. Maybe it would be safer for me to stick with making container candles.. Any replies or suggestions will be greatly appreciated--I've learned so much from you all!!!
  3. I switched from 4627 to 4630 and I'm glad I did! As Artcwolf said, it's nice to be able to slice off the exact amount of needed wax. I haven't had much of a problem with smoking, but I pour most of my FO's at 6 or 7%--the HT and CT are awesome! However, I did have to test LX, RRD, HTP, CD, and paper core wicks before I finally settled on ECO's--they burn beautifully!! Best wishes to you!!
  4. Why is it that a candle will burn absolutely beautifully for about an hour or so and then start jumping and flickering and sometimes spewing smoke all over the place? I can't figure it. I'm testing 4627 and a couple of different CS FO's--I've been making different testers with anywhere from 6% to 9% FO--8oz WM masons. I started testing with ECO's, then moved on to HTP's, RRD's, LX's, zincs, and finally CD's. The CD's are the ONLY wicks that produce a fabulous hot throw, but they also produce HUGE mushrooms. Does anyone just accept the mushrooms? Any wick type suggestions that I have not tried? TIA for all of your help! Hope everyone has a great weekend!
  5. Hi SatinDucky, yes, I was referring to the Love Spell in both posts, in addition to a couple of other scents that I have been trying recently. I've been very discouraged because I can barely smell the scent in my candles. When you and Top mentioned candlenose I smelled my candle again (I've had one burning for about two hours) and smelled very little, and then I went and smelled the scent straight out of the bottle and still smelled very little...so candlenose it is...I hope. Thanks everyone for your help--I appreciate it very, very much!
  6. Top, thanks for replying, but I definitely feel I am doing something not quite right (that's an understatement). I've been reading and reading and many people say that 4627 has a throw that will blow you out of the house. I'm embarrassed to say this, but here is an example of how badly I am doing something. Last night I had 3 of the Love Spell candles burning, each with different wicks, and wasn't getting a good smell or meltpool out of any of them, so out of frustration I lit a Glade candle and sat it beside the other candles and within minutes the smell of Creamy Custard was filling my living room. I went to bed very disheartened, but this morning I am ready to try again. I've read on several different posts that you recommend pouring this was around 175. I am going to try that now--I've been pouring a bit cooler. Thanks for your help. I'm going to try different wicks too. Karen
  7. Thanks, Kim and Ronnie, for answering. Ronnie, I peeked at your website and your candles are beautiful! I was just wondering if too much stirring could be the reason that I am not getting a very strong hot throw--I guess not since you stir right up until pouring. I will keep testing and hopefully figure this out
  8. After adding color and FO I stir the wax right up until the minute that I pour. After mixing, should I just let the wax sit without stirring and then pour? And because I have been doing so much stirring, could this be affecting my scent throw (which is not very impressive)? I'm currently using 4627 Hate to be a PITA--I just joined last week and this is my third question--which is a miracle considering I am the most shy person ever!! Much, much TIA for any help! Karen
  9. Two days ago I received my first batch of 4627 and quickly got to work pouring two 8oz WM jj's--one was 6% FO and the other was 9% FO, both Love Spell, and poured both at 160. I heated to 180, added a little color, and added FO at 172. Out of curiosity I made another 9%FO mixture and poured at 140. I tested with ECO 8 wicks in all jars, and the two poured at 160 burned beautifully, while the one poured at 140 smoked unbelievably. I'm writing this because I've read several posts where people talk about the 4627 smoking a lot--maybe changing pouring temps would help. I don't understand the science of why that may be--wish I did!! My problem is that I wasn't quite satisfied with the hot throw of the wax. It was okay, but no more stronger than the 2243/additives that I have been mixing myself. Can someone please give me pointers as to what I'm doing wrong? TIA!!!
  10. I'm anxiously waiting for my wax to arrive today, although it's currently icing outside so my delivery may be delayed. I plan on using the ECO series to begin testing--I'll let you know how it goes! Karen
  11. Thanks! My wax should arrive tomorrow and I'll give those temps a try:)
  12. Hello, I've been experimenting with straight paraffin and additives for several months now and am not happy with very many of my finished products. I'm thinking of ordering 4627 but I'm wondering...at what temp would you suggest adding the FO? And what is the best pouring temp for this wax? All replies and any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
