Sorry but I think you accidentally posted the wrong photos. The ones shown here are lovely NOT fugly. Hope you're feeling better soon. :smiley2:

Nice effect - very Australian (green and gold).

Yes, well ... I know how it is when one has a fantastic vision in mind and can hardly wait for the great unveiling ... then that awful moment when excited, anticipation turns to horror and dismay. You are definitely not alone. Thanks for sharing.

They are really lovely - well done. I'm intrigued as to how you got the effect in the second picture. :smiley2:

Good job!! and Sandalwood is one of my favorite scents! Have you ever tried Black Canyon. The cold throw is amazing, it is sandalwood and musk scent.
Thanks for the encouragement. Black Canyon sounds great- where do you get it?

This thread should help you, it has alots of ideas...

Satin, has anyone ever told you that you are an Angel in disguise? If I can't get at least one of these ideas to work then I don't deserve to make candles. Thanks!!!!!

Okay, what's the secret - how do you manage to get your candle bottoms flat? I've done the old "put the candle on a baking tray and rub" trick but all that seems to happen is that it just gets shorter (and shorter) but is still wobbly and then the wick ends up sticking up in the middle. Surely there must be a fool-proof way and I need it.

Donita, you are a legend - love being carried along with your whole learning experience - you're a wonderful teacher.

WOW! They are awesome - great work.

Jim, Big commisserations from me also - I have the same trouble BUT no access to Peak's FO's as they don't ship overseas. Has anyone out there tried Bitter Creek as I can order from them?

Lookin' good. Love the colours.

Stunning job - love the colours, they look so cool and tranquil - very serene.

Thanks for the tip. I did a 3rd burn and it turned out the same as the 2nd so I guess that the 1st was just an anomoly. Rats! I was hoping for an easy answer (not that this isn't easy, just more time consuming). Still, who've ever get into candle making if time was an issue. LOLNothing scientific here, but it always seems to me that the second (third, etc) burn is different from the first. I would add a third burn to the mix and see what results you get from that. I would use the totals and figure from there to give you more of an average burn. HTH -
Now, I'm sure you probably subtracted right, but thought I mention it, just in case. Your numbers jumped out at me. On the second burn, you subtracted it from the total after the first burn right? It looked odd that the second was exactly double. If you mistakenly subtracted it from the origional candle, it would make each burn 10g. This just sounds like something I would do when I'm in a hurry.
Wish I had, but no I subtracted the 2nd amount from the reduced amount. The only difference I can think of is that the 1st burn was in a heated room at night while the 2nd was in an unheated room with the window open during the day (even though it wasn't drafty). I'll replicate conditions 1 again tonight and see how it goes. Thanks

Maybe it's the wax you're using. The only time I don't need to poke relief holes is with chunk candles, all my others just slurp away around the wick as they cool.

Hello, Has this happened to anyone else? I did a test burn on a candle and it burned 10g in 2.5 hours, then the next day I burned it for another 2.5 hours but this time it burned almost 20g. What could the cause be and how do I know what the real burn rate is?

Help, I'm confused. How can you weigh FO on a scale? I thought that liquids are measured in mls or fluid ounces not weight ounces - will someone please explain!

Hi, In a couple of threads about other things 2 people mentioned how much they hate stirring Vanilla FO. Why is that? Does it have to be stirred for a particularly long time? Does it need other additives to make it bind to the wax? I use straight paraffin and love the scent of vanilla so would appreciate your thoughts before I get started.
Relief holes in tapers

Same here. I don't make tapers so can't be sure but my understanding is that tapers are made by dipping a wick in wax then repeating the process until the layers build up to the thickness you require. There won't be any air pockets so no need for relief holes. Hope that helps.
