  1. LMAO I'm laughing just because I really want to try this, because it's said it can't be done easily. Challenge, I love it!

I want to make a shaving soap, using 20% beeswax, which is protective and emollient, with moisture drawing properties. I'm also going to add 10% stearic acid, because if it's long lasting, well that is a great thing in a shave soap. Now I know it's going to be hard and I'm ready. No color or fo.

This is going to be fun. Will get the blood circulating. :laugh2:

  2. Thank you!

I'm really bad with geometry stuff. I'm sitting here trying to figure out the diameter of this thing and I know it can't be what I'm seeing. A calc would be great. The thing measures like 3 inches across, but it's no way 3 inch diameter because my candles are 3 inchers and this is a little slimmer so I know I forgot how to figure that out! Calc would be a dream. I'm gonna hunt too. Had no idea there was such a thing. :)

Edit: Thank you so much CareBear!!! :yay:

Edit again: OK crash course in diameter. Worth it though thank you! ;)

  3. LOL alien brains! That always cracks me up, that description. :laugh2:

Thank you! Good to know! I saw something on BrambleBerry blog today that said they tried a customer's 8% beeswax recipe, but they didn't say what else was in it. I've seen beeswax in castile recipes today too. In my book here, it says half of the wax isn't sappable. Still trying to find out what the half that isn't sappable does though! LOL

    Soaper's Choice says:

Beeswax has emollient, soothing and softening properties and helps the skin retain moisture do it is often used in cosmetic and skincare products as a thickening agent, emulsifier, and humectant.

After processing, beeswax remains a biologically active product retaining anti-bacterial properties. It also contains vitamin A, which is essential for human cell development . Throughout time, people have used it as an antiseptic and for healing wounds. Hippocrates even recommended and used it himself.

I found something that says it's low comediogenicy which is good. Thinking of something, a recipe, to make use of it's properties. Will soap it ice cold with full water if I do it. LOL

  4. I've seen some opinions in searches, but figured maybe people have changed their minds on things or started to use different amounts etc, since last time it was discussed.

I have stearic acid and white beeswax here that I received recently. Good for anything in soap? Yes? No?

I know I've seen if using stearic, that 3% is ok. I know it forces trace quicked, but looking for hardening properties really and for me, it seems the way to go right now if I can do it.

    Any opinions, advice appreciated. :)

  5. Aw shucks beau's mama. LOL No where near being any tutor, but boy it's a nice feeling to know I'm doing good with this stuff so far. Thank you!!! :)

Thank you Billie. :) From the minute I hit this board, I was addicted to looking at all the pretty soaps. This place is such an inspiration for me. I'm learning so much here. I'm sure you know what I mean too since you do both too! :)

  6. Well they came out pretty beautiful even though the color wasn't what you wanted. Love the crinkle cut too! The last one, well the color is different but the texture is amazing. Yes I'd call it a texture. LOL I think plain colored soaps with the texture on them are beautiful. They're fun to make too, from what I've experienced. Like playing with cake icing. LOL :)

  7. Thank you both! That itp swirl thing is really cool to do. I can't wait to do it again! LOL The bars are like rocks today. Soon I can cut a sliver off to test them out. Can't wait to see how they do. :)

Dana I know!!! I'm still working on my candles, and totally into it still, but this soap is just so addicting. LOL It's really fun to see the oils turn to soap for me. Then playing with the colors and stuff. It's just exciting for me. I couldn't stop now if I tried! ;)
