  1. Hi everyone, I just ordered a sample set from Flickers and I wondered if anyone had any reviews on any of these:

    Cranberry Fig

    Christmas Pine

    Fairy Garden

    Mediterranean Garden Spa

    Granny's Pumpkin Cookies

    Caramel Clouds

    Sweet Pea & Cream

    Thanks!

  2. Stella,

Thanks so much for the help. My wax holds 1.5 oz/lb FO, so that's what I have been using. I am not sure if CSN's are close to CDN's and CD's, so I will just have to keep playing with the sizes. So far I have tried two CSN 9's, I think I may have to go up a size. The only other thing I haven't done is heating up the jar, so could that play a role in the air pockets? I was told to use a heat gun or use the oven, which do you all recommend?

  3. The representative at Candlescience suggested the two CSN-9's. So far, it's burning pretty cleanly, but I will try to go up a size just to see how that works for me. It's tough because their wick guide doesn't have a suggestion for my size jar and also their wick descriptions don't tell you what size wick to use for what size jar. Does anyone have access to that for their CSN wicks? I really like those and the LX wicks...so far those are the ones burning the most clean and have the best melt pool. Thanks for your help.

  4. I tried the search feature, but did not find much info about palm container wax. I have been testing 4 different wicks in my palm jars. I have noticed about 10-15 minutes into the burn that the flame gets huge and it burns straight down really quickly. It burns down to an air pocket. I have taken all the precautions that I can think of to avoid this (tapping on jar, pouring slowly, pouring at less than 180, using the heat gun). This isn't the first time I have tested these jars with the wicks. My jar is 4.25" and right now I am testing (2)C-70's, (2) CSN-9's, (2) LX 14 (have tested the 16's with same issue) and (2) RRD 34 (have tested the 37's). What is causing the air pockets and the large flames? What else can I do to avoid this happening? It's driving me nuts!

  5. I would like to somehow incorporate my mom who passed away a few years ago. She passed away on St. Patrick's day and although it's not a pleasant day, I thought maybe I could make it a happier thought by using something related to that. Her name was Shelley but my dad's nickname for her was Shelby. She was a person who everyone liked and a die hard sports mom. My husband is in the Air Force, so right now we're traveling while training, but we'll be moving back to Ohio afterwards. That's a little background on myself. I wish I had a creative bone in my body, but unfortunately everything I come up with gets vetoed (they say it's not creative/original enough). Any ideas welcomed!

  6. I have a request for a vanilla with a touch of coconut. I am looking into Warm Vanilla Sugar but do not know who has a good FO that throws well in palm. Also, looking into Just Scent's Vanilla of Pearl. Can anyone recommend scents they use? Also, could use recommendations for apple cinnamon combo. Thanks.

  7. I did a search and a dog rescue came up first. I searched the domain and LuckyStarCandles.com is taken but they said the site is inactive. I don't know if I need to relate my name to my "theme". I am going to go for the sleek and modern look with my jars and tags, etc. I am just not really sure where to start to find a name that is catchy and not too tacky, but still has meaning. I was thinking of somehow incorporating a 4 leaf clover or using the word clover somewhere. This is probably the most difficult part for me, besides the wicking!

  8. I am eventually going to branch out and start a small business selling my candles. I have started brainstorming and came up with a few names. A little background...I'd like to somehow incorporate my mom who passed away 4 years ago. She passed away on St. Patrick's Day and although that is a bad day for everyone, I thought maybe I could somehow incorporate the 4 leaf clover or something along those lines. I came up with the name "Lucky Star Candles", but am afraid that is too juvenile sounding. I'd like to keep the name simple and easy to remember, but cannot think of anything else. Does this name sound too juvenile? What are your first thoughts when you hear it? Does anyone have any other suggestions? My family suggested "Angel Star Candles", but I'm afraid that may be too religious to appeal to everyone. Any critiques/suggestions are welcomed.

  9. Hi everyone. I have a few questions for those who use palm wax. I am using crystal palm wax from Nu-Scents. I was told to use 2-3 oz/lb. of FO in the candles by the woman who taught me. I have been reading to use a max of 1.5 oz/ lb in palm wax. Which is true and why? I am trying to figure out what I am spending per candle. What helps the scent throw more...adding more FO or letting it cure longer?

Also, as far as curing, how long should I let them cure for before I test? What exactly should I be looking for when testing? Lastly, what type of wicks do you find work best for you in palm wax? I have had so many suggestions ranging from cotton core to LX to RRD. I know it is a matter of personal preference, but what do you find gives you the best throw, with the least amount of mushrooming and soot? I am testing HTP wicks in 4 oz mason jars and have noticed a sizzling noise coming from the wicks, what does this mean? I know my questions are kind of vague, but I am new to this and could use any help offered!
