  1. I needed a real strong coffee for the "western line" of candles , after testing several from different suppliers, i settled on the Rustic Escentuals, Coffee House, it's a Colombian type, very strong and just a few other subtle notes to it.....but can't remember what those are offhand! Didn't want anything too fancy for Cowboy Coffee! Lol! Have a great day all!

  2. Has anyone used Bittercreek's Yuletide in soy wax? I use KySoy125.......is it a pleasant fragrance? I really need to order from only one place due to shipping costs. I also must keep it fairly simple.........used do a lot of blending for the holiday scents but running behind now so would prefer already mixed. I need other things from Bittercreek that's why I would prefer all from one place. So far I'm thinking......

    A Northwoods Christmas

    Mulberry

    Sleighbells

    Yuletide

  3. Placed my small order with them yesterday and all 4 fragrances were in! So maybe whatever was going on has been resolved?  Of course like I said it was a small order.....can't wait to try the Harvest Moon fragrance! :D

  4. I've been trying to find a Chaps cologne dupe on my own but nothing so far.......I thought maybe JS as she does carry quite a line of designer scents but I don't see it listed. Just wondering if anyone might know.......there is a Chaps fragrance oil on Texas Candle Supply but I don't think it is the Designer dupe I need. Thank you in advance! :)

  5. Thank you GoldieMN and Trappeur for your comments. Yes it's Texas Candle Supply, I didn't think of that until later on when I was driving to the store. Lol! I will post again after I test the rest......again, thank you:)

  6. Finally made my final decision on the Leather n Lace for my western line......it is JS Vanilla Lace mixed with SWC Leather, absolutely love it! Then for the plain leather I'm using the TCS Leather, I'm naming it Latigo , it smells so nice!  Thank you for suggesting it Belinda.......I didn't want to use the same leather for both so they would be very different! Then there is Campfire Coffee I'm kind of still searching for "the" one! Trying to find just a good, strong coffee like the cowboys would have drank.....no fancy types! Still working on Western Star and Tumbleweed.....testing them this week, will be posting the combos soon. Then the final one is Whiskey and Gunpowder! Lol......have no idea what that will be, open to any suggestions. I'm only going to start this line offering these six fragrances. Enjoy your evening everyone! :)

  7. Suggest same as the others......Made me think of my combo accident once about ten years ago! Getting ready for a big event, pouring for days and it was like 1:00 am I grabbed KY Christmas Past a pine tree scent and KY Apple Pie, mixed equal parts, can't remember what I meant to mix with the Christmas Past........was going to dump it and my son asked what it was, he loved it. So I made some more, took them to the show and totally sold out and took orders for more. I still make them and people still love them! Lol! :)

Whenever I need new supplies I shop around for the best shipping prices. It can vary a lot from one supplier to the next. I hate that I have to waste time shopping for the best price but often that's what it boils down to.

I suppose that's what I will be doing Candybee, thank you:)

some just have better negotiated shipping rate contracts with the carriers. Some try to offset lower listed retail prices with inflated shipping. Some pack orders in multiple boxes (wax separate from glass) forcing two shipping boxes into the quote. It can be a crap shoot.

I have played the shopping cart game and figured out the most economical for what I use. Just remember it for next time, lol.

The bad thing now is that the higher priced shipping place carries the jars I have decided to use for the Western line of candles! Lol! I guess we are all in the same boat with this, we need our supplies! Thank you TallTayl:)

Gail, do you live in Texas? I'm about 50-60 miles north of Houston.

I'm in North Dakota now I moved here in 2011 from my hometown in Illinois. Illinois was pretty centrally located to a lot of the suppliers. I really did expect to pay more for shipping here but it's quite a bit more. I guess what surprised me most was the the 44 pound order was $7.45 cheaper than the 13 pound box...... so evidently weight has nothing to do with it? Lol! ??

I sure wish I understood it myself. I live in Texas and the shipping from Lone Star is as high as the shipping from Peak's and I'm only about 31/2 hours from Lone Star.  I had wax and FO's in my cart from another company and the shipping was sky high so I got it from Flaming and it was almost 2/3's cheaper. They are both out of state from me but still! I don't get it either.

Lol! At least I'm not the only one! Maybe someone can help enlighten us, thanks Belinda :)

  12. I wasn't quite sure where to put this topic, so if you need to move it I totally understand.

Many things have changed since I started candle making in 2000 including the cost of having our supplies shipped to us. Then I was away from it for 5 years. If I remember correctly it was calculated basically just by weight at one time? I might be wrong but I thought that's how it was done back in the day.....lol

I just placed two orders recently, they were both suppliers in Texas. One was mostly fragrance oils, a few jars and 100 wicks......weight was 13 pounds, shipping was $34.35. The other order was only jars....weight was 44 pounds and the shipping was $26.90. I know Texas is a big state but I'm totally confused. Can someone please clarify for me as to how it is calculated.....Thank you!

I personally like Buckles & Spurs,

    Cowboys at the Beach,

    Cowboy Sunset,

    Chaps,

    Sun Washed Denim,

Thoroughbred (it's kind of spicy). All of his manly scents and bakery scents have been good of the ones I"ve tried. His feminine scents are good too but some don't have a description but they do smell nice and strong.

I don't care for his cream brûlée though and he claims it's the best in the business. I love Cajun's!

I got some of his Dusty Mexican Morning and it had leaked out in the bag that he had put it in for me, and it was a strong floral type scent and gave me a headache. I ordered a scent by the same name from BCS when they were in business and it was more of a bakery scent so I'm not sure if he had mislabeled the one I got from him or not. I never got a sample of it to try again.

I did order Buckles and Spurs, Cowboys at the Beach, Cowboy Sunset and Sun Washed Denim, that Thoroughbred sounds nice too, will order it next time...........funny you should mention Creme Brûlée because the supplier that I used to order it from went out of business several years ago and I would like to carry it again. Way back when I first started out I ordered my very first candle making kit from Cajun! So glad to hear they are still in business, I will try their Creme Brûlée then! I like their Baby Powder, Dreamsicle and a few others I can't think of right now.....thank you for sharing! :)
