  1. I want to make some Kahlua drink candles. I wanted to put coffee scented gel in the bottom and top them off with vanilla scented soy, but I think I read somewhere that you cant mix the two waxes in the same container. Any advice if I can do this or not. I supposed I could just do it and burn it to see what happens, but I'd rather know if I'm going to have a problem or not before I start. Thanks!
  2. I did my first craft show over the weekend. It was an outdoor fair. I had my candles on a table and some of them were exposed to the sunlight. My eight pink candles turned totally white, the rest of the colors maintained. Obviously I wont use that pink again and I'll keep them totally out of the sun next time, but should I worry that the rest of the candles might fade in time even if they are not exposed to sunlight? I make gel drink candles - I did get a few people who wanted them for their outside bars. Any suggestions on what wax would be best to make outdoor candles that would still look good in drink form (soy drinks are not so pretty to me).
  3. I bought those little yellow goldfish too and mine also look invisible in the bowls :undecided Guess all we can do with those is make sure the gel is clear or very lightly colored and put them close to the glass so they show up better. They are cute little buggers, when you can see them.
  4. Thanks for the web link Ah-Soy. It said plan on 1-3% of attendance, which brings me to between 350 and 1050 candles!! I think I'll shoot for the 350-500 range. Thanks everyone! I'm pretty nervous about this, but I think my candles are cute and (I hope, I hope, I hope) will sell well. But I'm sure everyone says that.
  5. She needs to check with her local City offices to see if she needs a business license or if a vendor license will do. They are not the same. Vendor licenses are for craft shows and business licenses are for actual businesses where people will come to your shop/house to buy things. Some cities require a business license even if you have a web-based business. A simple phone call to your City office will clear it up.
  6. Hi, I'll be selling my candles (both soy and gel) at a very large craft show for the first time in just a couple of weeks now. The show boasts over 33,000 visitors for the weekend. There are 250 crafters. I have no idea how many candles I should bring to the show. I only have 120 made right now, but plan to spend the next couple of weeks doing nothing but making candles (and working of course). Any advice on how many candles I should take with me for this large of a show?
  7. I poured strawberry scented soy into a pre-heated daiquiri glasses and they came out clouded with little bubbles on the side. I even re-heated and repoured and the same result. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? The first two that I did came out perfect. I used the same FO but a different batch of soy (although it was from the same supplier).
  8. Check your local Goodwill stores, they often have mason jars and various other glass jars super cheap. Sometimes you can even bargain with them to get them even cheaper. Just make sure to wash them well before using.
  9. I use candlemonster.com they have a 2 day delivery time and fair prices.
  10. I bought some wine and champaign glasses at Goodwill that are relatively thin glass. Do you think this is safe for Gel candles? I certainly dont want them to break while lit. In your experience, how thick does the glass have to be to be safe and show good results?
  11. I'm new to candle making too. I'd like to use dried flowers and fruit in a nested container candle. Has anyone tried this? Will the fruit get icky or discolor the gel?
