  1. By & large those look great. Looks like you have the technique down pat, especially on the icing on the little bundt cake.

I noticed on your banana split that the color for the strawberries, cherry, & raspberries are the same. I think I would like it better if you had different reds. On the other hand, if they're the same color in real life, don't chagne a thing! Your chocolate drizzle looks perfect.

  2. We might be able to help you better if we knew what kind of wax you're using for both your chunks & overpour, the diameter of the candle, it's shape, & the wick. It might be useful to know how thick your chunks are.

Just a heads up, you posted your query in the candle gallery. You might get better results by posting in the gen'l candle making category instead &/or including a pix of your candle here.

  3. I never would have thought of floating tapers. What a funny idea!!! (I mean that in the best of ways). I'd like to see how they burn, esp once they've melted down enough that the taper no longer reaches into the stem. I'm guessing they'd tip over & the water would put them out.

    Very lovely arrangement. :)

edited to say: For the longest time it looked like glasses. I just thought I couldn't see the stems & bases 'cuz of the ribbons & thought the gold wire part was mere decoration. Lol. Had a good laugh at myself!

  4. I think the gel would be fun to work with.

I don't know a thing about that kind of "wax" but I have it in my head that the amt of bubbles is related to the heat or how long heated (?), but it could be me rememberging completely wrong, which is never a surprise since I do suffer from CRS.

Anyway, let's see some more! :D

  5. actually my name is alex, yup another guy candle maker, kenzie is my oldest daughter, and she always says they are her candles:grin2:

Ahhhhhhhh, isn't that so cute? My daughter is similar, but she says "when are you going to wick 'em so I can burn 'em?" Eh, that's what summer's for. :wink2:

I have a few of those triangle containers, but never thought to configure 'em that way. Nice idea!

TwinMom, I got mine at Walmart, if I'm recalling correctly.

  6. I wish they were a bit closer so we can see the detail of the texture. That being said, the color I see kinda looks like a slightly burnt orange, but I know all too well that what is doesn't always photograph as is.

Are you going to include the candle stands? The whole package looks very elegant!

I also like the beads you added to the candle.

    Great job. :highfive:

  7. They aren't scented. I was just experimenting and wanted to see how they would come out.:)

I'm with you on that strategy ... it totally sucks to make a candle that includes FO only to decide later it's going back in the pot. There have been enough times that the reheated FO makes me feel like I'm breathing particulate matter. I decided to go back to basics while working on technique. FO will come later ... like when they make a palm that has decent hot throw. ;)

  8. Well, you'll definately want a smaller wick! :D

I know, I'm Queen at stating the obvious ... it's the only thing I know for sure. ;)

Hopefully you already know that palm wax will not completely consume itself & that a thin outer shell is desireable. Of course, getting it to burn that way is always the trick. The only thing about the wicking that I've really figured out is to try 'em all. I'm in the process of experimenting w/ different shaped molds. God only knows!!!

    Good luck w/ yours!

Love that dark blue color you got.

  9. The 'cane on the left looks like regular paraffin & the one on the right looks like my 1554 'cane wax, which has a melt point of 163*f. Good 'cane wax is supposed to be translucent. However, when I used it to pour into a couple of new pillar molds (the best way I know for certain to determine volume w/o having to use water & math), it came out as white looking as your righty. It's not visually displeasing, which is to say the one on the right looks alright. What I do find interesting is that for 'cane wax, it sure does have a low melt point (132-138), but, as you said, because it's so hard to melt, the wax has to be something else other than straight paraffin ... at least, in combo w/ additives. Well, you do have the Queen on the case. I'm sure between the two of you you'll get to the bottom of the matter.

Come to think of it ... I seem to recall having problems melting the 1554 by the double boiler method, which is what convinced me that it was time to buy a presto pot.

Regarding the jump lines ... did you give your 'cane a water bath? If so, was the water already in the bucket before you put your molded 'cane in it or did you put the 'cane in a bucket & then add the water? If you did it this way, you'll get jump lines.

  10. Mmmmmmmmm. Thanks for providing such a fine image of 'frosting.' As I look at it, I find myself wondering if that couldn't be something similar to 'mottling' in paraffin. Not having seen it for myself, I'm guessing frosting might not be as good looking as mottling since so many ppl seem unhappy about it. From afar, they don't look bad.

I think you've got an EXCELLENT shade of purple for Moonlight Path. That color also puts me in mind of lavendar & heather.

  11. Last weekend I made a palm candle in a polycarbonate mold. The patterning turned out really great. However, not sure if it's 'cuz the mold is plastic or because the sides of the hexagon are so narrow (the diameter, from edge to edge, of the mold is 2" wide). I'll try to post a pix tonight for you.

edited to say .... oops, my high resolution is to large to reduce for web. Lol. I'll have to reshoot at a lower res. Might be tomorrow or next week.
