  1. Donita , I just clicked on your website and you MAKE some BEAUTIFUL candles! The ART has not been lost
  2. Well Mary now we are getting to the old days of how we improvised when we need something YOU could take 2 of one size, one step down from the one YOU originally used that left a 1 " border wrap them together tight and DIP them a couple of times in in wax to make ONE wick then if that leaves to much of a border wrap 2 of the ones YOu used This works when you really want to burn and not enough time to wait for new wicks
  3. Hi It is just that the wax is shrinking and you need to do more pours tapping will help but you will probably still have to do a couple of extra pours That is very common with ANY pillar candle Corey makes some great molds and I'm sure if you write her she will tell ya
  4. Another way I remeber I colored them was I added a couple of the neon green chips to the wax so that it would glow in a black light Making a silicone mold would be $$ so if you are only going to make a few i would stick to the plastic BUT if there is a market for them then I would invest in the silicone
  5. To stop leaking on those 2 part molds I use to put close pins every inch or so I would also just fill part way and swirl it up to the seams to seal it I also made sure my wax was not over 150
  6. I do make silicone molds and I could make one if I can find the original mold I had (ions ago) How big is the one yu have I know there are smaller ones out there
  7. To get the lines in the leafs try this Before putting the halves together put a red or what ever color in the veins and swirl it around . After it sets put some darker green BUT at a temp of about 10 degrees cooler and swirl that THEN put your halves together and fill
  8. Well then that says to me to have a fan maybe on them when you pouring
  9. Mary it sounds like on the fluted one that U need a wick about 1 size larger any of the wicks considered a square braid or a flat braid ?
  10. Maybe warming the jar might help It sounds like the glass is absorbibg the heat form the wax and pulling away from the side Jacki
  11. Mary I am glad this helped I really never found that color nor fragrence affected things very much I can also say that 90 % of the time for pillars i usde a flat braid ( if 2 " or smaller wide) or a square braid wick
  12. Hi , I always tried to use the same wax from Gen Wax it was a granulated wax It was very easy to weigh out consistantly I don't think they have it anymore tho) and I believe the temp on it was a 138-140 melt point and depending on what shape and size I was making would depend on if I added hardners to it I just believe tho if you find a good wax stay with it BUt don't be afraid to try differant additives or adding a a percentage of a harder wax and adjusting your wicks Remeber during the summer months you need a stonger strenth candle in some parts of the country Jacki http://www.discountsiliconemolds.com
  13. Hi, I hope that idea helps you . I know i stayed with the same type wax BUT I would add differant amounts of hardners . So I could save that wick pool wax and if I wanted harder i would just then adjust that batch and then burn again really saved on wax I will say I have not been making candles for years BUT for pillars I always used a square braid or flat braid not any zinc or paper core
  14. hi Anna I would pour the wax out in a large pan Water should float out or to surface I would then put in in a pillow case and break up the slab into pieces and then let it sit out the water should disapate or you may need to blot it water can not blend with the wax , It just gets trapped in it as it cools Good luck I hope this helps Jacki http://www.discountsiliconemolds.com
  15. If you are using a hurrican wax which I think you shoud be using very hard wax pour in a slow stream so that you don't get as many air bubbles and tap lightly on the side of the mold after you pour wax then, after 20 mins you may have to do a couple of more fills that is common with pillar style candle
  16. Hi I always used candlewics wick guide it was helpful BUT when I came up with my wax formula I was going to use I would take all the wicks that might be correct ,I would place them in a large( 13.5" lenth) cake pan, fill the pan with wax and then burn for one hour Then I would have the wax pool size and the depth of the burn for each wax Now then make sure you keep track of which is which and pour the wax about 2 inches deep I hope this helps Jacki http://www.discountsiliconemolds.com
