  2. I measured everything exactly using a basic recipe. I think my wife and I removed the soap from the mold too early! The soap turned dark and looked like gel. Which from what I have been reading is normal. However, after washing my hands with some of the excess soap I still feel a small burning from the lye.

    Couple questions:

    1. How do you know for sure when to remove the soap from the mold?

    2. I balled up some of the excess scraps after cutting the soap I removed from the mold. We removed it 17 hours after pouring it in the PVC molds. I then used the excess soap in water just to see what it would be like. I can still feel a small burning sensation on my hands. Would this be normal? Does the final curing process make it so that when you use the soap it wont have a burning sensation from the lye using the soap?

  3. Here's the thing... if you read a lot of posts, you'll find that one scent smells differently to every person. None of us are your wife. What smells like frosting to one of us may very well smell like cake to her. Daystar offers a sampler pack with five different scents. Perhaps getting buttercream, cake batter, nanny's pound cake and two more would be your best option.

I guess I forgot to mention that it smelled like yellow cake mix to me also. Imagine the odds of meeting someone with the exact sense of smell… I generally work with percentages. If more people respond with a specific scent then I will probably put my money on that scent.

Another small variable that I forgot to include was that I have to have this candle completed by next Thursday. I don't want to bore you with the details but I will kindly say thanks for the advice. However, sample packs for this particular application unfortunately won't work. I'm out of time.

Thanks for ALL of your input ... Daystar's Cake Batter is!

  4. In my opinion & to my sniffer:

Daystars Buttercream Frosting smells like icing or frosting that is ON the cake. Sweet, creamy, buttery-vanilla-sugary fresh piped buttercream frosting.

& also, in my opinion & to my sniffer:

Their Cake Batter smells like, batter. A combination of the way the batter smells in the bowl before cooking, combined with the way it smells when it comes fresh out of the oven, BEFORE it is frosted.

Hope that helps a little bit.

Cake Batter - like a yellow cake mix?

  5. I would say that the best Buttercream is from Bluegrass, however, it's been a long time since it's been in stock (this happens alot with this supplier). So, I would recommend Daystar, and Snowtop (ICS) would be the runner up. As for Yellow Cake, I really like Patti-Cake from ww.kycandlewaxsupply.com.

does the buttercream smell like yellow cake mix?

  6. I just poured a Pomegranate and accidentally put in the wrong color block! So now instead of having a cranberry color I have a cinnamon (stick) color. It's a very light tan. Naming it Pomegranate obviously wont make sense due to the color. Question: anyone have an idea on what I might possibly name this candle.

  7. OH MY.. poured it this moring.. its very strong cinnamon as your melting with subtle Sandalwood but dang.. once the wax is cooled its like the perfect blend.. its a VERY GOOD sandal wood with warm hints of cinnamon.

This has instantly become one of my favorites and I havent even burned it yet. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

  8. Okay I saw a picture of this jar that I want soooo bad. It is a square glass jar and has a wooden lid on top with a little handle.

I have been looking all over and can't find it anywhere.

I have a picture however I don't want to post it here as it is not mine and I don't want to get into trouble.

PM me if you can help and I may be able to forward the picture well maybe not.

    PLEASE!!! :D

You posted this before and apparently found the answer. Problem is you didnt share it with anyone else =(

  9. If the glass is solid (not painted) then the problem you're having is that there is oil on the surface of the glass. Some alcohol (rubbing) will take care of this.

If the glass is painted, and the PAINT is what is coming up... then I'll have to say I don't know.

    My guess is #1.

    ;)

WOOOHOOO #1 worked.. thank you so much.
