  1. Oh Michi! Just jump in, I did! Ok.. so don't look at me as an example cuz I haven't gotten it right yet... not to mention it took quite some time to clean up my mess after that first lb...LOL. Using liquid dyes, I don't think you have to worry too much about staining, not unless you're going to try making a navy blue or black or something. Then again, I may be wrong :D As for the FO, the M&P I have has a 3% load, meaning 1/2 oz pp, which I didn't figure out until after my second try...lol. BTW: doubling the FO will kill the suds, ask me how I know :D Also, if you want to add anything "non liquid" to it, you need to wait until it thickens a bit to add or keep stirring until it cools enough to thicken some. The clay and paprika both that I used settled to the bottom. It didn't look bad, just wasn't what I had intended. Look at it this way, if you don't like the way it comes out, chop it up and remelt. Oh yeah, wrap them as soon as you unmold them. The sweating is a pain ;) Now go jump in with both feet and have fun. :)

I'm still trying to find out if Pam is ok to coat the molds with. Oh yeah, don't put them in the freezer to help unmold unless you have to and then only for a couple minutes(not 1/2 hr!), that makes the sweating real bad.

    Added: Thanks for the links!

Personally, I don't think i would use Pam at all on the molds. mp soaps have enough issue with "sweating" and I would be concerned that having residue oil from the Pam would pose a problem.

  2. I make tarts, votives, 8oz jar candles and am just getting started with B&B. What all should I have for this? I have tart burners, candle warmers and plan on giving out B&B samples.

Imformation what all do I need?

    When is your open house?

Personally, I would only offer what is tested, tried and true. That's really great that you are getting started in b&b, however, i wouldn't offer it at the open house unless it is available to purchase at that time. You could inform people of things you have in the works and what will soon be available, but I don't know that i'd offer samples of anything I didn't have available for immediate purchase. In my experience, people come to the open house expecting there to be "cash and carry" products.

My advice to you would be to present the products you do have and any accessories for them. You might even want to have brochures available with an insert of "up and coming" products as a way to let the peeps know you will soon have more to offer.

This is JMO of course. Good Luck.:)

  3. alot of pillars/votives will weep when first removed from the mold and will continue to do so for a few days or so afterward. Just dab it with a paper towel and put them in a cool dry place for a week or so. I am not familiar with the wax you used but you also might want to test out some additional additives.

  4. I'm pretty sure I've seen bags at Sam's club, although its been a while since i was there and saw them. You could also try a restraunt supply house, bakery supply store, or Gordon Food Service store. You probably could order some real quick from uline or papermart and have them shipped out 2-3 day and have them in time.
