  1. Thanks so much Geek! I had wondered what happened to you, since I've read alot of your posts regarding GB, and you almost seemed MIA! I was hoping to get to making these a few night ago, but it looks like tonight will be the night! Geek....what have you found to be the best wicking for this brand of waxes? Thanks bunches, Suzy
  2. I was thinking the same thing about the Presto Pot. Was wondering how that works? I usually use the Presto to heat the wax then transfer to a pouring pot to add FO. I heat the pouring pot a bit so that it won't cool the wax too fast. Erin: Glad that your's turned out tonight...I'm just gettin' started! Suzy
  3. Tony...I like the appearance of the 444....looks very nice! =) I'll be doing a comparison tonight of all the samples I have. I had hoped to do it last night, but I ran out of gas. Geesh...I have't even gotten to the point of trying color's yet!! Erin...I'm going with all of the suggestions you all gave me, for going up on the temperature. I'll try what you said on pouring temp. Wish me luck! lol Thanks everyone, Suzy
  4. I guess I'm confused about wicking and MP. I know my tarts smell up the house, yet my candles don't do anything even comparable. I love these jars and don't really want to double wick if I don't have to. I'll try the 415 today, without the USA, and then try the 444 again, but pouring and melting hotter. Sometimes when I poured cooler with the 444 I'd still have to zap the tops because they looked 'weird'. lol And then again, no scent throw. This is much more frustrating than I thought candle making would be. At first it started out as a sort of therapy for me....now it's just downright making me crazy!! You all that have it mastered have my utmost respect! Thank you so much for your help and suggestions, Suzy
  5. Meredith....thanks so much for the added info. Do you take the temperature of your MP? Was just wondering...I have tried this and the highest temp I've gotten was around 110 if I'm remembering correctly. (I don't have my notes in front of me right now.:embarasse ) Thanks again, Suzy
  6. Thanks so much Stacie for the suggestion. I was thinking it wasn't burning hot enough either, due to the creamy appearance of my MP. I'm going to try the 415 tonight...any suggestions on this one? Maybe I should add the USA to it, too? LOL I will NOT give up....I might be losin' hair, but I love a good challenge! Thanks again, Suzy
  7. Well these suggestions are so interesting to me . The gal that gave me directions said to "just melt it to the point that it's all melted and pour at a low temp." This would be about a temp of 140-150. Right now I'm testing Blue Berry Cobbler from CS with a premier 765 wick. Two hours into the testing and I have some hang up, the part that is melted pretty well has about a 1/4-1/2" melt pool. No scent throw at all. A medium mushroom on the wick. If I start this process over again and go to 175-180, should I melt up to a higher temp and then add FO at 175 and pour when? I thought pouring cooler meant a smoother top?? You all have been wonderful help....I really like the appearance of this wax, so I'm hoping to figure out what direction to go and keep with this brand. I do have some samples of the 415, 415 and 474. Maybe I should play a bit with those? I guess I feel like I'm just working so hard, watching everything so closely and not getting anywhere. Ack!! Oh...one more question :embarasse (I'm so sorry to annoy....) but does the melt pool temp have anything to do with the scent throw? Thanks so much for all the replies! Suzy
  8. Thanks for the response... Jar: 8 oz Tumbler, approximately 3" or so, wide. Wicks: CD's, ECO's, HTP's, 700 series, almost all of them Melt wax to 150, cool to 125 and add FO, pour at 100. Melt pools have always been creamy, not clear, about 1/4" deep and I've burned for 3 hours, to all day long. Cure for 1 week. Testing in kitchen. I've sampled different FO percentages...from 6% to 9% with the 444 wax. No additives. I buy these soy candles from a shop close to my town and they knock my socks off with scenting the whole house. Grrr...lol. I'm at a loss...should I switch to a different GB wax, or just keep going. I'm sooo frustrated. Should I take the temp of the MP, or does that matter? Do you think that I might be adding FO at too high a temp? I've always stir the FO till my wax is clear after adding it. That's how it should be done right? lol Thanks so much for your help! =o) Suzy
  9. Okay, so maybe it's not my GB that's going crazy but just me. lol I'm trying so hard to get a good hot throw and it just ain't a happenin'.... I've switched waxes so many times and finally found one I like...Golden Brands. I've been reading, reading and doing more reading as well as following everyone's suggestions about pour temp, etc but it just won't throw hot for me. What am I doing wrong? I let it cure, have tried all sorts of wicks and use the 444 with 6-9% FO. It doesn't matter what I do...it won't throw. I get my FO's from CS, Soy Candle.com as well as Peaks and Mill Creek.....sheesh!! Suggestions for this newbie, anyone? I can't afford to lose anymore hair...can someone help me, pretty please? Thanks for listening to me vent.... Suzy
  10. lol Thanks so much Top! Now I feel totally silly even ordering it! Oh my gosh....ask a dumb question and totally embarrass yourself!! :embarasse At least now I know...hehe! Thanks again, Suzy
  11. Geesh....I hope I'm calling it by the right name! Can anybody give me a heads up on this stuff...if it helps with scent throw, and how in the world are you supposed to add it to your wax if the temp of your wax is low? I'm using GB444 and I can't seem to get it to incorporate with the wax. I was told by my wax supplier to melt the GB444 just until the flakes melt...no higher than 150. Go easy on me....I'm a noob! Thanks bunches! Suzy
  12. You all have me wanting to order sooo much more than I originally thought! I have always loved this pecan pie scented votive I buy from a local gal's country shop but I have yet to see it on any scent supplier lists. Nevermind the pecan pie though....now I have enough to keep me busy! Do you all carry a bakery line up and how many scents do you include in it, if you don't mind me asking? :yay: :yay: (I was tryin' to think of another way to say thanks but my brain isn't comin' up with it yet...lol) Suzy
  13. You all are THE BEST!! Now I have a GREAT list to start with and I don't even know where to begin!!! lol Maybe it will be with the pumpkin and vanilla's, or blueberry's and apple's, or, or, or .......geez...where to begin??? Ahhhhh soooo many choices!! Thanks so much! Many, many hugs!! Suzy
  14. Wow...all great suggestions! I have been thinkin' and thinkin' on this one and hadn't come up with a thing! Thanks so much! Suzy
  15. You all are wonderful and making me HUNGRY!! lol Thanks so much!! Anyone else!???? Thanks bunches!! Suzy
  16. YUMMMMMM.....that pumpkin crunch sounds sooo good. What is the supplier on that one? Thanks so much!! Suzy
  17. Maybe someone can help me on this one.... I'm testing 4oz tumblers. I've have tested four so far, both with poor melt pools and poor scent throw. I'm using GB444 wax in one set, 6006 in the other. I'm assuming the wicks were too small. Anyway, do I just put these tumblers in the electric oven, melt 'em down and scrap the wax and start over? Or do I try to scrape out the hardened wax, or melt it down and re-wick and start over. I'm stumped on the correct way to re-try the wicking without ruining the wax/scent by over heating it. Suggestions anyone? Thanks so much for helping this noob figure this addicting stuff out. Suzy
  18. I'm looking for some bakery scents and am stuck on Vanilla Hazelnut and Creme Brulee. Can anyone recommend other scents that are popular and have a strong hot/cold throw along with suppliers? (I know popular is a matter of location, but I'm just in the testing stages and only giving out to friends that are testing for me) I'm looking for a strong vanilla, maybe an apple cobbler type and any other suggestions. Thanks so much for any and all responses!! Hugs, Suzy
  19. This same exact thing has happened to me on several scents. I was wondering why also, because I haven't even started working on colors yet...just trying to get a good scent throw so I haven't added dye yet. If you find out the answer, could you please share? Thanks so much! Suzy
  20. I'm feeling your colored pain.... Oh, and a word of warning for something else that's horrible...be careful of those little squishie pillows... My bulldog Jake ate one, and we had billions of white, static clingy balls all over the house. Those suckers don't vaccume up, wipe up, NOTHIN'! Poor Jake had them stuck up his nose! So, BTW....what's a co-op? (I havta ask!) Suzy
  21. Hi everyone...hoping your area isn't as cold as it is here! Brrr! I have some Millcreek Lemongrass and I am loving this scent, but for some reason I can't get a good throw in votives. They start to smell like fumes or something weird like that, if you know what I mean. Any suggestions on what to do, or what type of wick to try? Thanks so much for any suggestions or help you can offer me.... Suzy
  22. Thanks for the input Scented.... I was also wondering how much to expect out of a votive. I had bought some last fall, along with two 24oz jars. Today the votives sit in my sunroom in a cute bowl as decoration, with no scent to them. The jars I left unlidded and to my dismay they have no scent either. I guess I didn't realize that I needed to leave them lidded when not lit. I had burned a Lavendar votive in my bedroom last week and it smelled up the whole house, even as small as my house is. lol The others aren't doing even that close. I'm stumped on scent throw, but didn't want to expect too much, too. Thanks, Suzy
  23. JILL!! Thanks so much for responding...I was going to email you and see how things are going with the 6006 wax for you. I couldn't find the last email addy for you though, since I've spent the last three weeks with this dreaded flu...grrr! (the thought didn't occur to me to look on this site....sheesh!) So do you think I should do one at a time then when I do the testing? Like I said, thank you so much for your help! Suzy
  24. Yes, I'd like to know too. I emailed her some time ago, but haven't heard. I know she is sooooo busy with her move so I figured it would be some time before things would be up and running. If anyone knows the status please let me know too, okay?? Thanks bunches... Suzy
  25. Hi everyone...another noob question, thanks so much for being pateint with me... When testing votives, I put one in the bathroom, shut door, and then another in my bedroom, and a third in another room, shut door. Is this the way to do it? I am using this way because I want to see what the scent throw will be like with the wick I am testing. Is this the way it should be done? Ughhh....votives are driving me nutso....I've spent soooo much time on these suckers and sometimes they make me want to bang my head up against a wall. How much scent throw does a normal votive throw off? I can't seem to get the scent throw in my large family room (20 X 22 room), and I figured thats probably normal. Am I wrong? OH, one more thing...on most of my votives I do a full day burn and they last at least 14-16 hours. Is this the right amount of time for a 2 oz votive? (yesterday I started one at 7:30am and almost done at 11:00pm....lol...is this dangerous?) Please go easy on me, and thanks so much for any suggestions that will help me on my votive quest. Suzy
