  1. I came across this and was hoping someone could tell me if this is true or just a gimic to sell Bean Pod candles: 100% Stabilized Soy Wax! - Why do manufacturers blend Soy & Paraffin? *100% SOY is known to lose its fragrance *100% SOY does not have vibrant colors *100% SOY turns white over time BEANPOD CANDLES are 100% stabilized Soy Wax... Their Patent-Pending process, TEMPACURE, addresses all the above issues. http://www.cherrylanecollection.com/beanpod_details.htm My question is: Does soy lose it's fragrance???? If so, what effect would that have on para-soy blends???
  2. Green Leaf .... that was a very nice reply. It's great to see that you took the time to check into the situation with TXSouix. How refreshing! I haven't ordered from your co., but because you seem to care about your customers, I'll be giving you a try! TX Souix, I agree about customer service. We've been in business for a few years now and have run into some real "hum dingers" as far as suppliers go. Needless to say, our policy is ... if a supplier doesn't treat us right on the small orders ... they won't get our larger orders either ... somebody else will! I also want to add that recently I had an incident with a supplier about some wax I ordered for testing. It was only a 10lb slab, nothing major (as far as expense) but it wasn't performing like it was supposed to according to the threads on this board. I emailed the company about it and recieved a prompt response. Not only did they email me back but we talked on the phone twice after that. Now, I did not get the wax situation resolved to my satisfaction ... but because they really seemed to give a hoot about a small order ... I'll definately go back to them and put them on my supplier list. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS VERY, VERY IMPORTANT!!!
  3. Well, I ordered and thought that I had recieved 6006 ... but after testing and all that goes in with it ... I believe that the supplier might have accidently sent the wrong wax ... it's an on going saga ...lol. At any rate, I have read many good things about this wax on this board. For me though, I don't think that I'll be re-ordering it any time soon. I've spent way to much money on blends over the past several months ... going to stick to my own blend for awhile. I'd be interested to here how you liked the 6006 though.
  4. I believe it has to do with the cooling temp and the shrinkage (if that is the right word) of the wax. Maybe try cooling a little slower??? I use to use Joy wax and no matter what I did ..... it always had sink holes! I just fixed them with a heat gun or did a repour.
  5. You may need to add your fo at a higher temp. When we are using the 444, we add our Fo at 170 - 175 and pour at around 150. Someone else may have other advice, this is what works for us.
  6. Wishing you good luck! I'll tell you, these jars were a real pain at first trying to get wicked, but after you get an idea of what'll work in them (according to the wax) they really are a great jar. Right now we are testing a different wax in them ... 80/20 para/soy (80 being para...) and it looks like 2-LX 14's are going to work nicely ..we're having a small amount of hang up at first but that's ok cause it catches up as the candle burns down to the narrower part of the jar with out making the jar to hot. Anyway, let me know what wicks you finally decide on.
  7. I ran into this just recently. When I examined my wicks I discovered that the wick that was drowning out was slightly bent were as the other one was straight so it must have been bent slightly when I wicked the jar. If that isn't what is happening with your wicks, then, sorry I don't have a clue. Someone else may have better advice.
  8. We've had success with 2 echo 6 or 2 htp 73 using a para/veggie blend wax. We haven't been able to get it single wicked to our satisfaction.
  9. Thanks for the replys, I'm using quality FO's from different suppliers, stirring aprox. 2 min as far a the wicks go .... hmm .. I don't even get a full melt pool at the 3 hr. mark. This is my first time using this particular wax but I'm thinking that maybe the supplier got the waxes mixed up or something because from what I'm reading, it's been stated that this is supposed to be a soft wax but let me tell you that what I'm using, once it is poured and cooled, it's one of the harder waxes that I have ever used. I'm emailing the supplier to make sure. Nothing against the supplier cause in my opinion they are wonderful but mistakes do happen.
  10. I thought that there was a thread on this somewhere but I just couldn't find it ... Could someone tell me why a candle would loose scent after burning it??? The first burn is usually awsome .... second burn is much lighter in throw. It's not candle nose .... my testers are reporting the same thing. I have been trying out 6006 wax .. I tried heating to 180 adding fo (8%) at 175 pouring at 160 .. then I tried heating to 195 adding FO (a little over 8%) at 180 pouring at 170 and still have the same problem. I'm using 16 oz apoth. jars ... wicks... have tried just about every wick I could think of but of them all CD's and RRD's seem to be working the best. Double wicking with CD 10's or RRD 50's. FO's are Peak, Candle Science, NG. I've made several batches using different FO's and every last one of them lose there scent after the first burn! One batch I put a teaspoon of Crisco in (per pound) just to see if it helped ... it didn't. I haven't put any other additives in it. Does anyone have any ideas????? It probably is something that I'm doing ... just don't know what! Help please!
  11. Just wanted to add my two cents. Candlewic used to be one of our main suppliers then a few years ago we started having a lot of trouble getting our orders in a timely fashion. Their FO's began to be hit or miss and their customer service left a lot to be desired.... so we completly dropped them as a supplier. I'm glad others have had better experiences with them. We are just getting ready to place our first order with Peaks for FO's and we have high expectations about thier products. It will be a blessing if they are as good as what we have read in the posts.
  12. That's a different way of looking at it and I can see your point and in all fairness, things can happen rather you've been in business for 30 yrs. or are just starting out but when tragedy strikes because of a poorly made candle it seems to reflect on all candle makers (insurance rates sky rocket to boot), I guess that same thing would apply to all areas of business though. It would just be nice to have some way to combat the situation.
  13. Thanks for the info, after you mentioned this I did a brief search about if for our state and not sure if it applies to "us" at this point but will look into it further when I have more time.
  14. I could be opening a can of worms here ... but that is exactly my point. In my opinion, it sure would be nice to have some type of guidlines that had to be followed, or licensing, or something before you could actually sell a candle. I'm not picking on the hobbyist (that's how we started out and are still relatively small time compared to others on this board) but it seems to me, to many people start selling way before they are ready (I'm speaking of people that I personally know of in our town ... just makes me cringe). I know the old saying is be careful what you wish for ... you might get it.., but truthfully I'd gladly go through whatever steps was required for licensing. Just some thoughts. By the way, to keep from starting another thread ... does anyone know where I can get a copy of the ASTM 2417 Standard Specification for Fire Safety For Candles for free ... don't mind having to pay for it if I have to .. just wondering if there was a free copy somewhere available.
  15. This may be a dumb question but could someone tell me if there is such a thing as a Chandler's License (as pertaining to "candle making")? It occurred to me that so many professions require "licensing" .... electricians, contractors and so on .... just wondering if there was such a thing for candlemakers?????
  16. Thanks for the response Dean. I really wasn't sure so thought I'd better ask before I switched, thanks again.
  17. Could someone please tell me if there is a saftey issue involved when the wax completely seperates from the glass container? I'm in the process of replacing the pre-blend that I am using (that adheres wonderfully to the jars) with my own blend that completely seperates. My blend doesn't "shake, rattle and roll" in the jar, but does completely seperate. The only thing I can see in my "testing" process is that when full melt pool is reached, the melted wax would then run into the cavity (between the seperated wax and the jar). In one instance, there was a slight (very, very slight) flaring of the wick as the melted wax filled the cavity but wound up switching that wick to a smaller one ... didn't have any repeat occurances after that. I know that there are waxes made to completely seperate (I believe the J300 is one) but my question still is saftey? I should know this but I confess I don't ... and input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  18. I downloaded it too and spent the last few hours going through the tutorials. I am really impressed, has a lot of the "bells and whistles" I was looking for. It might seem a tad expensive to some but for me I think it might be worth it ... seems like it'll save a lot of time and head-aches. I'll also be waiting to hear about the "soap makers software" before I make a final decision. Thanks for all the input.
  19. We did use set shipping but are switching to the "real time calculater" for 2007.
  20. Thanks for the link. My daughter handles the "soap" end of our business so I think this will be great for her. When she gets the program I'll check and see if I can use it until somethings available for the candles.
  21. This sounds wonderful, when you make it available ... please, please, please let me know!
  22. hmmm.... good question. For me, the big issue is inventory, something that would track supplies as they are used and a cost analysis for the finished product would be nice. I can't tell you how many times I've went to fill and order only to realize that I was either out or almost out of something that I needed. It's a real pain in the butt (not to mention that the customer is waiting), I've tried making notes to order this or that when I see that we are running low but it would be so much eaiser to have a program that would help me master this glich in our business.
  23. Does anyone know if there is a candle makers software available? Something that will track supply inventory and maybe do a cost analysis. I'm using an accounting software that track inventory as far as the finished products are concerned but would really like something that tracks supplies such as wax, FO's and so on. Is there such a thing out there?????
  24. Hi Bert, I also live in PA and agree that it might be a cooling problem.
