  1. Hi Faerydust! The site (Northstar) says PSW CB-127b and that it is 100% soy. I had thought of trying a soy/par blend and have a sample of the Calwax FA-CB2 soy based blend to try also. I'll have to look up the cbl125. It sounds great! Let me know how the wicking and scent throw is...can pm me if you wish. Thanks, Beth
  2. Hi again. The candle had a slight crack around the wick that a heat gun fixed. No wet spots. Twelve hour cure, so tried this am. For a 3.75 oz candle, the throw was good. Candle remains lovely after the burn. If you hit too hard with the heat gun it does frost slightly. They claim it is 100% soy, but it sure looks nice. Had enough left for two JJ and poured them this am. I did pour them in the basement and carried them upstairs. Bigger crack around wick of one, so I poked and hit it with the heat gun. Maybe better if I left them downstairs. Otherwise, looking real good! No users?? Beth
  3. Hi all. Has anyone tried this and can you give the pros and cons? I have a little sample pack and just poured two small candles. One nice thing is you can pour from 120-155 degrees. The one drawback is it only holds 6% or less FO. But then again, LOL, that would save money! Just checked, the deeper color looks great and so do the tops. Of course, it hasn't had time to frost or get wet spots. Anone else's experience would be appreciated! TIA Beth
  4. I'm embarrassed to ask but, that has never stopped me before! LOL! Is the wet spot where it adheres or separates from the jar sides? TIA. Beth
  5. Hi! I do like Peak's cotton wicks. They burn without that big mushroom and just wanting to double check myself...Do any of you use them and if so, do you think an 80C is too big for an 8 oz. jelly jar? TIA Beth
  6. Well, that's too bad. I think they are so cute and seem like something I would love to add to containers. Oh well, at least I didn't order the mold yet! Thanks for the info. Beth
  7. Hi. Have any of you used a pillar blend to make grubby candles? TIA, Beth
  8. Hey thanks. I guess what I am wondering is how much does everyone use? Do most go 6%, 7%, 8%, 9% for most of your FO. Some waxes say 6% and others say up to 10%. One post said they can use about 9% in a wax that suggests 6 or 7%. Do you just go by how strong the FO smells in the bottle or do you all test each scent at different %s? I am getting convinced that it isn't needed to go max and perhaps get a better burn and thus a better throw. Just figured if 90% of the makers go X%, that is probably the best place to start. Thanks again. Beth
  9. It is a geat scent. When I first got it, I didn't think I would care for it...but found out I really like it in the candle! Throws great even in small candles. Beth
  10. Yes, that is what I mean, only you said it better! So, which % (this is how I figure out my pours) are most of you using? I just poured 4 more sq. masons but not sure which % I want to try for. I realize this may have to be altered some depending on color and wick, but I want them to smell as good as they do when I make them. Thanks again. Beth
  11. I have finally found a wax with a melt pool and throw. Now maybe I will quit complaining. One question. How do you figure your FO. One wax site says for instance if you want 1 1/2 oz. per lb. to measure 14.5 oz. wax and 1.5 oz. FO. Another says use 16 oz. wax and 1.5 oz. FO. Obviously the % is different, so which way do most of you go when figuring? TIA. Beth
  12. OK guys...Some companies say add FO at 175 and others at 140? I understand both ideas, but do any of you add at 175 with a wax that they suggest less? Just wondering if there is that much difference in soy? Oh, by the way, Crisco does not make for smaller wicking. Tops looked really great, though! Beth
  13. Thanks Henry! Going down in wick size is what I need. With my soy, I can't get a full melt pool in an 8 oz. jj with a 62C. Your idea of adding the paraffin like an additive sounds like a great idea. Just keep adding more until you achieve the desired end. I'm really not an nut case, just sound like it in my posts...this soy is driving me crazy! I haven't heard about the J waxes but will do a search I guess I am just too tight to want to dump all my wax and just order more. I'll see what the crisco does for wicking and then order a slab of paraffin and start adding! If that doesn't do it, I may give in and go for the Joy wax or J wax or something on that line. You are never critical even of us with dumb problems. Thanks again for all your good advice! Beth
  14. I'm getting down to the last effort here! Point me in the direction as to what paraffin (seem to be as many as soys) would I add to the 100% soy, and in what % to get a clean burn and good scent throw. This is how I feel! Tonight I'm adding crisco (read about it on the forum) and starting to feel like this! TIA! Beth
  15. Hi Terrie! Not trying to be critical, just curious. I tried to get NG to give an estimated soy % and they refused. Just wondered where you got the 98%? I don't know if I really care the % if the burn is good and the scent throw fine except that I would like to mix my hard to wick soy with something that will still burn ok. Thanks. Beth
  16. Hi. I tested both and felt the el container blend was better than the millenium. Both had some cracking and frosting issues, but less with the container. The other drawback is they say only 6 or 7% FO and some scents I have seem to need a higher amount but some of the other waxes say the same and people use more? Not sure this helps. Beth
  17. Hey everybody. Just a question...tried the search, but it didn't come up, so...Do you use joy wax and if so, can you tell me the pros and cons? It sound good, but just wondered how much paraffin is in it and does it burn clean? They did say that you could mix soy up to 50% max. with it. How does it wick? I need something for the 8 oz. sq. masons and so far my 100% soy has been a big 0. Thanks for any info. Beth
  18. Hey thanks. I need to show my husband your post! I guess my frustration is that none of the testing is resulting in a great candle despite following all the directions and suggestions. I am unhappy with my wax, have tested several others but I'm still not sure which direction to turn. I really wanted to sell by this fall...It's been over a year of trials so far. But each new pour may be the turning point! Gotta love that soy!!! Beth
  19. Thanks for all the suggestions. I test poured today and did some with the 62C (though it won't clear all my edges in many scents) and a HTP 1212. This seems really large, but again, the HTP 126 only works in the light scents. I've also tried the eco 14 and various CDs. Not too sure what CD size might be right. Also tried double wicking that I didn't care for. Well, by the time I get done testing (again) I won't have 200 lbs of this wax left! I've easily used up 25 lbs. these last few days! Beth
  20. I test poured several 100% soy in 8 oz. square masons. The Peak's wick 85 Cotton almost hits the corners. 3" diagonal. I wish they made one a step up as these wicks really do burn well. What wick & size would be just a tad bigger/hotter? TIA. Beth
  21. Love mine! The 7 year old granddaughter loves to help and can wick perfectly centered wicks each time. Beth
  22. I love the fruit slices and it does throw well in soy. Also, the Mediterranean Fig smells great, but I haven't gotton great throw from it...may be me as I am having wicking issues. Of course, none of these are spicey types. Beth
  23. Anyone use or has used this and can give the pros and cons? Thanks. Beth
  24. Hey Kerry, If you don't mind, share more on the double wicking. I haven't been able to get a good burn with any size single wicks. I keep trying, but think I'm going bonkers with these. How close do you place the double wicks since the opening is smaller than the jar. Also, do the zincs burn hotter than say cottons? I just tried RRD 50 and 55, and I couldn't get them to clear even the the neck. Thanks. Beth
