  1. Hi, I just received Pumpkin Souffle from CS because of all the reviews in this forum. I agree that oob it is nice, however it smells to me just like NG's Pumpkin Crunch Cake. For those of you who have actually used both in wax, can you tell me if Pumpkin Souffle is spicier than Pumpkin Crunch Cake ? The reason I ordered Pumpkin Souffle in the first place was to offer a spicier pumpkin.
  2. Thank you all. This information is great. My local grocery store is now carrying Louana oil. I haven't looked for coconut oil, though, but at least I know what to look for there and even at Walmart. I report back to let you know the results.
  3. Hi, I just read a post about where coconut oil is recommended to increase scent throw and that 1tsp/lb should be used. Is this coconut oil you buy at the grocery store or is it something special ?:rolleyes2
  4. Hi, Have any of you used Northstar's soy based FO's in your candles ? If you have what has been your experience ?
  5. I'm no expert and this is only an assumption, could it be that the melt point of 464 is at the low end for tarts and that's why they don't last that long ? I think using a votive wax - that has a higher melt point- mixed with a low percentage of container wax would make the difference by keeping the fragrance longer ?
  6. It's Enchanted Lights, I get it at Florida Soy Solutions. I am trying to stick to soy, that's why I wanted to know if anyone has used the KY Soy. Thanks.
  7. Never seen those, however, Tartburners.com has a lot of these types of burners.
  8. I guess you're right. It's just that I advertise "soy" and was wondering if anyone had any experience with a blend of KY's natural waxes.
  9. Hi, I only make clamshell tarts and have had great success using EL ( a mix of votive and container). My tarts have a great CT and HT. They last approximately 20hrs. or more per two cubes (always melt 2 cubes so they don't get too hot and the FO melts away too quickly). Now I am considering using a different, less expensive wax. I want to stick with Soy or Soy blend (no paraffin) and am wondering if KY would be a good wax. I've also considered GB464 with some votive, although I read a post where someone was having problems getting a good throw with GB464. I am just concerned that I won't get a long lasting tart with good throw. What are your suggestions and what do most of you use ?

  11. I don't use 464 and am considering using 464. I use a mix of EL Millennium Container and EL Votive. I bring temp up to 190 then let drop to 180, ad fo and pour around 160. I use clam shells and the throw is great, the tarts last a long time. You are using 464 only... don't the tarts come out too soft ?
  12. Another thought any fresh linen scent with Sweet Pea ! Ok...the smiley doesn't really go with what I wrote...I just love it so
  13. I like the Clean Cotton idea ! How about Sun Drenched Linen and a floral mix ?
  14. Thank you...... I know that there is a certain FO load per wax and I know that EL Soy can take up to 1.5oz/lb (pushing it of course). So since I have the option of putting 1 or up to 1.5, I was wondering if anyone, that already has experience with the FO's I mentioned, could tell me which ones are weaker and which ones are stronger so I don't have to do that much testing. As an example: Michelle at Florida Soy Solutions (when I bought fragrances from her) told me which ones of her fragrances were stronger. Just like when I use NG's, I pretty much read the reviews and get a good idea on how much to use. Eg. Pink Sugar and Loving Spell, 1oz is all I use on others I use 1.2oz.
  15. Hi All ! I want to first thank all of you for all the information you have posted here , it has helped me immensely. I am a part time clamshell tart maker and I have bought fO's from : Florida Soy Solutions ( I like there FO's and their EL Wax is fabulous and close enough to me to save me a lot on shipping). I love their Creme Brulee ! I like Nature's Garden because of all the info. they share from other customers and I have not been disappointed yet with their FO's. I also like the FO's I have bought from Southern Soapers- their Chocolate Truffle is great ! After more research, I came across The Candle Source here on this forum and ordered 16 samples (it's so addicting) and they all smell wonderful ! I haven't put them in my EL Soy Wax yet so I called CS and asked what % FO I should use ( I was ready to rattle off all the 16 different fragrances I ordered, to get a different % for each) however the person at the other end told me not to put more than 1oz/lb or else the FO would float at the top ? I plan on using 1.2oz/lb (EL recommends as max) just to make sure I get a strong tart, but I wonder if any of you have had any experience with The Candle Source FO's and what your suggestion is on % load for the wax I am using for tarts. I bought the following: Baked Apple Pie - by far the best I have smelled OOB Bedford Falls- thinking of renaming this one because it smells wonderful but more like men's cologne than nature (maybe after I test it I'll notice the nature part of it ) Clean Cotton/Clothes Line/Sun Washed Linen - the best ! And OOB on the two that I know are Yank Dupes are right on ! Coffee Caramel Cream - Irresistible ! Fresh Cut Roses - you can smell the greenery Heavenly - very nice JJ Bedtime Bath- I love this one and it is an exact dupe. Downy - strong and nice Love Spell - same as NG's to me, still that ick factor OOB. But I am sure wonderful after waxed. Nag Champa - Very Nice Ocean Mist- Not sure it smells like ocean to me, however it is nice and I haven't waxed it. Strawberries and Champagne - Nice Sweet Pea- I love, love this one... it smells fruity/tropical and slightly flowery. Mid Summer's Night - exact Yankee dupe Please tell me if you can which one of these are strong and which ones are not so I can get a better idea on how much to use. Thanks again ! :smiley2:
  16. I am trying my hand at tart making again after a year off. I had made tarts with GB416 and they started getting that powdery edge, now I tried making clamshell tarts and they got powdery after a week ! Now I am not sure what to do and what wax to use. I had bought soy tarts over 2 years ago, I still have some and they are still creamy looking.... there must be a solution.
  17. Thank you. Although I have temporarily given up on candles because my resources are at a deficit and therefore...no money left for testing. :undecided I am sticking to tarts right now and that is also a small challenge when you don't have resources for a lot of testing...I will come back to this site when my business (part time only) kicks off (hopefully) and I can expand and make candles again. Thanks again for such a valiable post.
  18. I poured between 115-118 no dips :Dmini muffin trays :embarasse
  19. Like I said, I 'm new at this and this is the first time I got the dips out of maybe, 20 trays.... I hope to pour some today and I'll let you know what happens....:embarasse Who knows, I might have candle eyes along with candle nose:cheesy2:
  20. I noticed that that last ones I poured out of one batch had the dip, but the first didn't. I think that the last ones might have been poured to cool ? But I am new at this so I'm not sure.
  21. I have used LP416 from Aztec and just reordered some from Soycandles.com. I agree with previous posts that they (Soycandles) have excellent Customer Service and their price is better. My first tarts with 416 came out very hard and do not melt in my electric warmers, some even caused a foaming kind of thing. I still have Joy container wax that I can mix in 50/50 but was thinking I would like to make it 75soy/25joy plus make sure that I bring up the temp. to at least 180 and was wondering if I should mix in the fragrance at that temp. and pour at a very low temp.... what do you think ? I plan on using 12% fo. Thanks for all your great advice in the past..
  22. I found the C-3 and also looked at C-1... thanks for the info. I will consider these when I order wax again.
  23. Thanks, I will weigh them from now on. I wanted to stay away from paraffin and I thought that I could get a good throw from soy ? The Joy wax is a soy paraffin blend that contains vybar. Do you think that I will get a good result if I go 50/50 with the 100% Soy LP416 ?
