  1. Thanks for the tip about the plastic inserts and the distilled water. I did use tap water when I made them, but only the ones in my house got mold??? The ones I gave my family did not. I made these 4 years ago or so and used beads from ebay to make them.

I too think you had mold due to the tap water. I have made these for about 4 years and I always use distilled water now. When I first started I used tap water because it was readily available---I, too, had mold problems.

  2. I ordered something on line for about $20.00. No big deal. They were just CD baggy things and fit in a padded envelope. But I had to sign for the delivery. I didn't know it would be shipped that way. So, I missed the delivery and had to wait until the next day to sign for them. I was waiting for Fed-Ex and as soon as he rang the doorbell, he put a note on the door saying I missed it again and would have to pick up the package myself. The nearest office is about 45 minutes away. I ran after him and said, "Gees, give me time to get to the door!" Seriously, I was waiting in the familyroom for him to come. ANYWAY, I just went on line to order some shaving brushes and they said they only ship to where I have to sign for the package. No exceptions. I want the brushes but I won't be here to sign for them during the day and I'm not going to ask a neighbor to stand by their door for a week waiting for the package to arrive. Is this becoming a standard way of shipping now? I hope not. Okay, I feel better now. :meditate:

We used to ship whatever way the customer wanted until last year. We no longer use FedEx--because of their lack of communication we lost 2 really good customers. They were suppose to deliver some supplies to me for those 2 customers. I had to sign for them and I wasn't home. When I returned home I saw the post card about having it redelivered. So I picked a date I could be home and called them, they set it up to be redelivered to me. The day before it was due to arrive, I took a chance and went online to see where the package was---just to do it. Guess what??? Those idiots totally disreguarded the notes in the system about my packages and they sent it back to the supplier. Talk about fuming mad??? Oh no, more like I wanted someone's head on a silver platter! This is the 2nd time they did this to us. We use USPS and UPS only now! I send things out with like a delivery confirmation and the big ticket items I do make peeps sign for because I have had peeps say "I never received it". Bolognie! The things peeps will do to save themselves money:angry2: .

  3. We are going to offer b&b products like scrubs, oils, cremes, lotions, lip balms...etc. Pretty much just a contemporary look---nothing extravagant.

What direction are you taking with your products, style, and can you give a little more background about them or your business? It would help so that we know sort of what you are looking for.
  4. We do the refill thing as well...only for local orders, family, and friends. We have been doing it for about 5 years and haven't had a problem yet...knock on wood. The only thing I would not do is use candle glass from someone else. We only do the refills for customers who bought candles from us and they have to be our jars. We have a distinct mark that let's us know if the customer is bringing back our jar to us or someone else's. The reason for this is because we extensively test our jars under intense heat conditions. Therefore, we know we are offering a "safe candle" to our customers. If the jar we receive back doesn't have our mark we won't refill it.:highfive:

Ok, my boyfriends mother asked me if it would be possible for her to save the jars from my candles, give them back to me to "refill" and then resell them to her. I guess I have no problem doing this for her, but I would warn her that the jars are used and she should be careful. I've used testers over and over and over again with no problem what-so-ever.

But it got me thinking how others might like this as well? Especially after the jars start piling up. Would it be safe to offer a "refill kit" with a wick, and prescented, precolored wax chunks that they could melt in the microwave (I use EZ Soy). This is a good idea but it has some kinks, but I'd like to offer some type of way to re-use those jelly jars.

Love to hear some thoughts on this!!

  5. I called my post office and they said they never heard of that. Hmmmmm....I think he DID want your extra money.:o

Ya know, I have always had no problems sending stuff from the post office. I have only had 1 box arrive broken. I count my lucky stars for that. What I don't understand is the information I was fed today. I sold some oils on ebay to a lady in Alaska. I always let the PO know when there are oils in there .. The guy said that there is a new rule in effect that if you are sending oils through the post office, you must insure and have signature required on all packages. This is a laod of BULL if you ask me. I think he just wanted my extra $$$$. Dang him. Anyone run across this?

  6. Love the candles and the labels. I was looking for a name for my b&b line. My oldest daughter said I should name it Posh (for something different)...no idea why....what a coincedence. I love the name too!

Finally, a finished soy candle...this is going to be the 100% soy candle no color. I don't know why the label is not showing up clearly in the picture but all comments and are appreciated as to what I should change or keep. Now on to 70/30 color candles...:wink2:

BTW all contact info is on the bottom with the warning label.

  7. soapy licious...

Just wanted to tease ya with some yummy pics. This stuff is sooo good. You smell a lot of lemon OOB, but once its in the soap, the sugary sweetness comes out to play:drool: I put a little yellow oxide in there and did a blind swirl, so we shall see if any swirls show. I am off to find a 22" machete today so that I can cut into my 32 bar mold:grin2:

My mind is definitely in the gutter, I wrote sweetcomes instead of sweetness. Forgive me, lol!

  8. Okay, now I am stumped! I need a business name for my b&b line I have coming out in Jan./Feb.. I wanted to make these products myself but I really don't have the time. So right now I am having private labeling done for me from a major b&b line. They are giving me the right to rename the products. Could someone help me figure out a name for my new b&b line? I like goofy catchy names.

  9. I make chunk container candles. The way I do it is to pour it like you would a regular container candle and as it sets up, put the chunks on the top. Just make sure the bottom and the sides are fairly well-formed because you'll have the chunks falling to the bottom of the candle if not. HTH:highfive:

No not pillars. My friend knows I only do container and she said the candle with the cinnamon sticks was a pillar but wanted me to come up with a container candle.A nice jar.I found one at Wal Mart I want to try. This jar IMO would need to be wider than most I use like the 8 ounce JJ or the classic jar.The one at Wal Mart is wider and square.I think they want these as gifts and also at holiday time.

Next year's projects are pillars and scenery candles.

  10. Very very cool!

i'm happy with how these came out. i have a dark blue one scented blueberry muffins cooling now. anyway, these are (left to right) gingerbread cookies, bayberry, cinnamon, & cedar :D

i used parrafin wax and poured between 150 - 160

  11. LMAO.....Gosh, we manufacture our scents and I wouldn't even know where to begin to make this scent. If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them and give it a shot!

Hi, I got a friend thats gotten a customer wanting a candle scent called new tire scent does anybody know where you could find it or is it renamed suppose to smell like new tires my i 'm thinking yuck but this person wanting it pretty bad help!!!!
  12. Here is a site you might wanna check out---> http://www.pvsoap.com/recipe_edible_massage_oil.htm. I know it's oil but it might work. HTH

ok i did search.. but i came up with not alot.. I was just wondering if anyone was making this that would help me out? or is there anyone out there making a body spray that is made out of simple (taste safe) ingredients that I could just add Flavor oil to.. I want to play with this and I have some ideas and some background. I was just wondering if there was anyone out there that has ACTUALLY made it?

    Thanks in advance.

  13. If I remember right, you can customize your invoice and receipts from paypal to your customers. Unfortunately, I don't remember much because we stopped using payapl about 2 years ago when, on 2 seperate occassions, some "phished" money from our account bank account that we never received back. Vey disappointing!

    Hi all

I upgraded to the Paypal business account - didn't want to commit to the monthly fee as of yet.

I also work with wahmshoppes. My question is, it seems that customers have to put in their address etc. on my site, then go to PayPal and do the same thing again. Is that the case for those who have the business account with no monthly fee, or am I doing something wrong? Everything seems to be working except that glitch - if it is a glitch at all.

Also, when your customers get a receipt - is it line by line itemized or just shows up as a payment to you, i.e. 51.24 to Soap makers Plus even though the customer bought 8 bars of soap. I hope I am explaining myself....

    Thanks in advance!

  14. With my soy wax, I get some frost when I pour hot---minimal is any when I pour very slushy---but you have to be fast...lol

Those are very nice and the colors are great. Is that their soy wax or the paraffin? If I remember right you can get that affect pouring in your jars at really cool temps. It seems like I read that on here some where.
  15. If you ever have a question as to if a jar will break or if it is thick enough for a candle, put it in a pre-heated oven (350 degrees) for at least 20 minutes. If it doesn't break chances are it is fine for candles or to be sat on the warmers. HTH

Somehow they just don't seem safe to me.

Doesn't wax EXPAND when it melts? And doesn't the BOTTOM of the candle melt first?

How come the jars don't crack or break?

  16. I get my dyes from www.cierracandles.com. They have an extensive line of liquid dyes, which I love. I think it lasts longer than the chips or blocks and less messy as well. I make soy and paraffin candles and I use the dyes for both of them---it works out great! HTH

ok i gotta know, what is the best type of dye to use for soy candles, i've used the dye blocks and reddi glo chips. and been wanting to try out liquid. any suggestions would be great
  17. Are you using Polysorbate 20 as a preservative? If so I have a friend who uses natural Vitamin E oil. She says she doesn't have musty or moldy problems with her products. There are even many stores in our area who sell her products. I, myself, have never tried the Vitamin E oil. HTH

I have been using Sweet Cakes's lotion (cream) base and it is awesome..only downfall is it requires Polysorbate 20. I can't stand the smell or feel of the Polysorbate 20 in my lotion..my customers say that the lotion "tastes" terrible, if they happen to get any on their mouth or lips. I have also purchased some super creamy rich lotion(cream) base off of the classy from MMS. This lotion(cream) was just as nice as SC's, did not require adding Polysorbate 20, but it has a "musty" smell to it. Here is my question.. First, has anyone tried MMS before and noticed this smell? Second, any other recommendations on Super thick and creamy lotion base that does not require Polysorbate 20? I appreciate any help!

    Teri

  18. That is so awesome. I can't wait to get my shoppe opened! :D

...to deliver today for a friend to sell at work this week. Poured 36 16 oz keepsakes with nine different FOs: Bayberry, Home for the Holidays, Banana Nut Bread, Mulled Cider, Apple Jack n Peel, Christmas Eve, Candy Cane, Pine, and Pumpkin Spice. Whew! Below is the inside of my secret underground lair, aka my Mad Scientist Lab with my lineup of cooling candles:
  19. I live in Northern Indiana and I know for a fact that some of the farms around me grow their beans for one of the companies that manufacture the soy wax. How do I know this? because I went to 2 different farms to see about purchasing raw soy wax beans for my customers and they told me all their beans are shipped to this company shortly after harvested and they couldn't give me any. So, this in my opinion, would warrent the words "grown by american farmers" because I live in America and it's around me that these beans are grown.

Okay this is the whole case and point. I true example of WHY this thread was started. It is all about hype and what you have heard (You being generalized of course). So because some Joe Blow "said" it was made by American Farmers? LOL whatever . It is made by some poor Mexican making bottom dollar trying to support a family. Yes there are "SOME" American soy crops with actual farmers and not machines running them. But guess what there about 1000 oil wells in a 50 mile radius from where I sit at this moment. So I could EASILy say that by buying paraffin you are supporting the American Oil Rig worker. Heck they need jobs too. Those guys work ALOT harder and more than any farmer I have ever met.

Hey Top I know you usually have some backup in research behind your comments. I would "REALLY" be interested to see some facts especially on the whole soy is not "truly renewable issue". I am think of handing out that info when the soy liars are setting up shop 2 doors down from me!!!

  20. The biggest reason I tell people that my candles are soy is because I work in the healthcare field also and soy wax allergies are on the rise. I, under no circumstances, want anyone to be sick or potentially die. All that would be due to my stupidity in not revealing that my candles are made of soy wax.

The point is simply that there's no reason to think using vegetable shortening is more environmentally sound than using paraffin. The only reason to label it as a renewable resource is to make it sound like it is, which is dishonest hype.

As far as this not being a comparison to paraffin, that seems like an evasion. It doesn't say renewable resource on a bottle of Crisco oil, which is made of the same stuff. Presumably because it isn't the "renewable resource alternative" to some other kind of oil.

I'm not contradicting the Founding Fathers. I'm just saying what's lame. Advertising the benefits of the wax is lame for any kind of candle, because it doesn't matter. Why should consumers care what freakin wax is in the candle? They're not chandlers.

Soy wax is trendy and you're on the bandwagon is all it really says. You can do that whether you make a good candle or not and it sells.

  21. I use this jar as well and I have used the eco 8---I am in the process of testing another line that looks to be much better. Also it depends on they dye and the FO you use too. The FOs we manufacture require us to wick up. I use C3 soy wax. HTH

Hello, I am using the 9 oz bulb jar from the Jar Store. Also Soycandle.com carries it but calls it 10 oz candelina jar. I am struggling to find the correct wick for it. Has anyone used this jar and found a good wick for it? I don't know if I am just trying to be a perfectionist about it or not. Has anyone used this jar? What wick did you use? How many hours did yours burn? I appreciate your wisdom so much. Thanks.

    Janet

  22. Could she not tell they were made of wax? Hmmmm....some people....lmaoooooooo

Yup, I had a customer buy some tarts because she loved the fragrance. Left my booth. Minutes later came back in and asked how they were to be used. Were they for eating? :o My kids nearly laughed in her face. :undecided
