  1. I used Burgandy. Hope that works out with your project.
  2. I have a mold with a base that after a while is not even any more, any ideas on how to keep the molds with the base level?
  3. Thank -You all for the very nice compliments. The wax i used is from http://candlesandsupplies.com called 141 mp wax votive/pillar paraffin.Mottle's nicely w/out additives, but i put 3tbls of sterine in it anyway. The pour temp i used on the first batch was around 180-190. More 190. The second batch the temp was 200. I think i'll make a third batch today and see how they come out and write it down this time in my candle log.:smiley2:
  4. Thank-You for all your nice replys. I am currently making more of the same for my craft show for november. I made another batch of them today and they are more clean cut around the layers, and had more bubbles than a mottle affect so i must have poured them at a higher temp. The scents i used for the top, some are sun rippened rasberry or cinnanan/cedar. The middle is carmel apple or butter cream frosting and the bottom is sandle wood or butter cream frosting. I'm ordering some more christmas scents for the candles!
  5. Hi !, I had the same question a week ago and some nice person sent me this. whoops, sorry i tried to send you the thread, I'm still learning here. So i'll type it out for you. Some one copied this from an old thread and sent it to me. go to http://www.imageshack.us/ -click browse -find your picture you want -click resize for message boards -click host it....,then -highlight the last line in the box that says"direct link to image" -right click on the mouse -click copy....then when you want to post a thread...write what you want , and then click the little button with the mountain on it and right click and paste the url of what you copied from the web site. I hope that helps.:highfive:
  6. Hi!, these are my first layered mottled pillar holiday candles!! Any advice on how i cand make them batter, I would appreciate and if they are good I would appreciate that too. Well, I have not mastered yet on how to make the picture smaller. I went to imageshock.com.
  7. Thanks for the info Eugenia!! I plan on making some tomarrow. Thank-you Donita about the tutorials. I have e-mail you. Thoses flawed pillars look great. :highfive:
  8. Than-you! for the advice. I did go to the michigan. gov online and started to fill out the forms and my mistake was i checked yes for the employee question, because i was my only employee and then it had me fill out all sorts of things and thats were i was confused. I think i'll go back to the site and fix it. I saved on the site. I do have my FIEN number. Thank-you for telling me your story. I know now to check no on the form.
  9. I have two children both girls 2 and 8 years old. In the morning when my eldest is getting ready for school and my youngest is still asleep i heat up my wax in my presto pot and do the pour, before she wakes up. My fiance helps me get the kids ready for the day and for school. Then i clean house. I have a gate up on both sides on my kitchen so my little one can't come through while i'm candle making during the day. I usually do another round while my little one takes a nap in the afternoon. And do homework cause i go to a university. Then after My eldest comes home from school depending on what day it is it's off to Karate, Girls Scouts, and Gymnastics(she's on a team). And then after all that it's her homework time, the kid's bed time and I make another round of candles and/or do my homework /or go to class 2 nights a week and clean the house again before i go to bed. So i love candle making and i make sure i make time and family time. Candle time is me time it helps center myself.
  10. Thanks everyone for your sujestions, On Monday I am giong to call on an accountant. A friend of mine who owns a massage therapy place says an accountant did all her stuff and when she went to sell beaded jewerly too that she makes; said she went to the chamber of comerence and paid a $1.00 for her tax license.
  11. Thank-you for the info. I live in Michigan and have my first craft show in November. I have a business license and an IEN #. I went to http://michigan.gov for a 518 form for sales tax and it wanted me to fill out things i did not need to do. I looked threw all their forms and became completely confused. I do understand that if i do 3 or less show in a year i can fill out a concessionears(?spelled right)form to give Uncle Sam his money. I called the federal bld in lansing to ask questions and i get please press # or an autimated voice. No actual human being. I guess i should go to one of those small business seminars.
  12. Hi I'm trying to find a whole sale company for candle making products and the ones i find on the web ask for a permit #, or sales tax number, and or to pay a fee. I'm i doing something wrong? Whats a remitance sales#? Do i need a state tax i.d if i only do a few shows per year. I thought that would classifiy as a concessioners form. I would appreciate any feedback. I don't know anyone personally that makes candles and does show to ask. Thanks.
  13. :undecided Does aryone know how to make a crackled pillar candle? I tried making some and they come out cracked only at the top. Any advice?
  14. I am still learning with trial and error about wicking, I'm using braided wicks for candles 2'' to 3'' in diameter. The wax i am using is crystalized feather palm wax, preblended pillar wax, and Translucent wax from http://shop.candlesandsupplies.com I get most of my stuff from them. My grey candle that looks cracked is one i poured into a mold and let it sit for an hour and then put in a freezer for about 2-3 hrs and it gave it a cracked appearance.
  15. Thank-you! for the tips, they really helped. i did post a picture of some of my candles with the help of my husband. I'm going to try some more ways as displayed in the thread you sent.
  16. Thank-you! For all of the praise's, I am a beginner at candle making. I find it addictive now. I don't think i am making the palm candles right. I have been looking threw the thread and have found so many useful information about every thing candles. I love it.
  17. Thank-you:) The gray one is one of my frozen candles!
