  1. here's an affordable site that has both.

    http://www.lavenderlane.com/store/default.asp?parentid=2

if anyone would like to share some of these, i'd be willing to buy some. i sold some roses at valentine's day and they are wanted to buy something to scent it with-i didn't have anything at the time, so i just scented them with my own bottles of oil at the show, but they are wanting to buy a refresher. a boyfriend bought for his girlfriend and she really loved them!!

  2. Here's 1 place to order that i have ordered from before-i'm sure there are others... i've purchased the flavorings too. the bottles are 1-DRAM (.125 FL OZ) GLASS BOTTLES WITH CAPS

(pkg of 24) for $7.20. these come with a regular lid, i thought you could buy the dropper, but i can't see the right size on their website-but you get the idea. i'm sure someone will know where else you can buy these.

  3. not to change the topic, but in addition to the millcreek, i use straight shea butter before bed or in the morning after a shower and that seems to help too. but i was using the millcreek long before the shea butter.

my heels were so rough they lost a lot of feeling, well, one day i used the pumice type stone to remove rough skin and it almost hurt.. I wondered what was wrong, so after my shower i looked at my feet and noticed that they weren't as dry as they used to be.

they do have a sample of their lotions and other bath and body. i did purchase the samples, and then almost immediately, i ordered a gallon of each and was not disappointed at all. i had ordered some bases elsewhere and was not impressed.

    that's just my opinion.

    Heather

  4. I use the bases from Millcreek. They are made with soybean oil. Can i say wow!!!! I absolutely love their lotion. It is nice and soft and creamy and absorbs into your skin quickly without a greasy feeling.

Here's my 2 cents worth on using bases-i'm like most of you that have another job and just not enough time in the day to make things from scratch. I applaud all those who can make things from sratch, but for those of us who either don't have the time or $$, i believe using the bases allows us to offer more products to our "customers" whether they be for actual customers or just friends and family. I never promote that i made them from scratch, but customers don't really ask either.

Right now, my customers are appreciative of the fact that i can make lotions, shampoos, etc. in many different scents that even bath and body works can't. plus, i can make 1 at a time. That means less cost trying to get them sold. Plus, it makes it a little more personal for them-which gives me an edge.

I have rough skin on the bottom of my feet and using Millcreek's lotion daily (sometimes more) has really softened them up. Keep in mind i've been trying tons of different kinds of lotion trying to get rid of the rough heels.

i absolutely love their shampoo and conditioner and the hand/body liquid soap also. That's all i will be using from now on. makes my hair feel good and really lathers up. i "ran out" and used something else, by that evening my hair was oily looking. And i love

I don't have anything to compare it to, but i use their body/linen spray. I like that it's dual purpose. I haven't used it for linen spray yet, but as body spray it is really nice. no oily feel. keeps the scent for quite a while.

i mixed some of the lotion base with a buttercream frosting oil and yummm... my son who is 2 1/2 knew it was lotion and put a little on, then he must of thought it should taste good since it smelled so good, and licked his hand.. he found out the hard way... I also have the white chocolate macadamia nut cookie from daystar and mmmm...

    hth,

    Heather

  5. yep, one of those big, oversized ones, hubby had bought for that exact purpose but the needle thing that came with it didn't work right, so i snatched it right up. It is a little tricky to get the lotion, etc. sucked into it, but it is definately much easier to get it in the bottle. The only problem i had is that you couldn't make more than 1 scent at a time unless you have more than 1 of these, because after rinsing it out, you have to let it air dry-it's almost impossible to get all the water out and from what i've read, you don't want any water mixing with your lotion-don't want to cause any mold. so, i may be seeing if i can find any of these cheaper.

funnel is great for the runnier stuff like the shampoo type stuff, but is darn near impossible for the thicker lotions-i use the bases from millcreek and i just love them-btw!!! they are made with soy, and it is the best lotion i have ever tried. it's nice and thick, but is soaked into your skin quickly and leaves it feeling nice and smooth. The lotion does come through the funnel, but very, very slowly. and i don't know about you, but i have better things to do than watch lotion slowly dripping through a funnel, lol!!

so far, my best bet has been the syringe thing.

i did find some better containers, and much cheaper than what i was paying. now just need to wait for the $$$ to order them. why does this "hobby/hopefully business someday" have to be so darn fun and addicting? I can't decide what i like more, making candle type stuff or the bath and body type... so, for now i'm just dabbling in a little bit of everything. my hubby told me i needed to slow down on buying supplies. this coming from a man who has probably $10-20,000 wrapped up in hunting gear, guns, fishing poles, etc. etc.... i just smile and nod my head, lol!!!! if i were to tell him no more fishing poles, hunting stuff etc. he'd just ignore me anyways. plus, it's not like he needs anything else anyways. he can live without it just the same as i can!!

    Thanks for all the replies!!!

    Heather

  6. Thanks for the great ideas so far. I really liked the containers at bayousome.com. they include the pump and for less than $1 each. I will have to redo my label a little-but that's not a problem.

I never thought about a hang tag-i make body glitter that looks great in those-so maybe i'll use a hangtag for when i make those.

right now it's not a huge problem as i am making stuff for family and friends, but i do craft shows here and there and hoping to expand as time goes on.

I've done the funnel thing too. it was just hard with some things that were thicker-like the lotion. One thing that did work better than that was to use a syringe type thing. I just always seem to end up with lotion all over myself!! lol

I made myself one a few days ago that smells like buttercream frosting, yum!!! I'm using a base, so i'm not doing anything special, but people really like the fact that i can make scents that aren't offered in stores. It gives that "personal" feel. They can tell me what scents they like, and i can tell them what scents i have that would work for them.

Thanks again for all the help and advice. keep it coming!!!

    Heather

  7. I am looking for something with at least 4-6 oz. possibly 8 oz. that either has a pump or flip top. I would like something clear so the colors of my lotion come through.

I am currently using the pyramid bottles with the pump pictured from Kangaroo Blue and while they look nice, they are really hard to put a label on. I don't want anything that needs to be heat sealed-this is for a business, but i'm selling mostly to friends and family and at some craft shows. I would like to keep the cost down as much as possible. Or if you have an easier way of labeling this container? address type ones don't work, and i need to have enough room for the ingredient list.

I've looked at quite a few websites, did a search on here, and haven't come up with anything that is a good alternative.

Also, i am wondering what ideas you have for filling the bottles? I had a suggestion of using a ziploc, then cutting a hole in the bag, but i was wondering if there was an easier way-you go through a lot of baggies that way-i guess i could look for those cheapie ziploc type bags-that would make it cheaper too.

Any tips or helpful advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!!!

  8. You've probably placed an order already, but here's my picks:

passionate kisses, lime margarita (awesome), lemon, strawberry preserves, cherry is very strong, their red hot cinnamon-although not as strong as others i've tried is a more "dead on" scent than the others

These are the strongest of the ones i've tried. I've got a mile long list of other ones i want to try and i have a few samples i haven't mixed with anything yet so i can't say for sure. oob-everything smells good.

I can honestly say i have not been disappointed with any of NG's oils. I use soy wax from Millcreek and have found that most scents thow ok, but not "wow", but everything from Natures's garden has been "wow" with the exception of 1 or 2 scents that may have been better suited for bath and body instead of candles.

  9. I'm excited to be going-my very first candle "convention" of any kind. I'm hoping to learn a lot of new things and meet some of these wonderful people i've met on the BC board and those of you on this board that may be going. I'm taking my parents along-they are going to use it like a "vacation" so i don't have to worry about the hubby and shopping.

  10. sorry logcabin, i thought you didn't know what it was...

i like your name change. but for me, descriptions mean nothing-i have to smell it. i either love it or hate it. there's no in between for me..

  11. And no one can figure out what a Yuzu is..

from the website.... "Also referred to as Japananese Grapefruit, Yuzu is not your ordinary grapefruit scent. Yuzu begins with top notes of mandarin, tangerine, lemon satsuma, and ruby red grapefruit, middle notes of bergamot, and base notes of oakmoss. Yuzu can also be mixed with other tropical notes to create a very complex scent of your own.

oob, i really like this one, can't tell you what it will be like in my soy wax.

i'm betting that if you don't like this scent, it's the base notes of bergamot and oakmoss....

looking forward to testing this scent to see if i will like it in wax or b&b...

    hth,

    Heather

  12. i agree that i haven't found one from NG that doesn't smell exactly how it should. that being said, i got a few florals that i don't personally like because i'm not a floral "lover". I do love the Kama Sutra Passionate Kisses. That one is "to die for"... it is a mix of berries, rose and something else.. would have to look at site for total description. but i just absolutely love it!!!

also, Lime margarita is wonderful!!! it is very strong and really scents up a room when using it as a tart.

strawberry preserves is very strong. i purchased a cheesecake from Milcreek and mix the two... boy oh boy could i eat that!!! it smells like the real thing. i will be trying NG's cheesecake next...

red hot cinnamon is delicious, but not burn your nose hair type-like the last red hot one i tried. this one smells more like the candy..

cinnamon sticks-same thing, not a burn your nose type one, like the last cinnamon stick fo i tried...

cherry was also very strong, on the sweet smelling side to me... wanted to drink the bottle....

fresh squeezed oranges... was not impressed when i first started melting tart, but then the scent "mellowed" and did smell like the name, however i would order something like fuzzy navel etc to incorporate another scent, or mix with something else you had already...

cafe carmel smells really good oob-but i have yet to get it in wax. around here the coffee scents really do seem like they sell better. that and spicy smells.

was not impressed with lick me all over, hand in hand-although would be a good wedding scent i suppose-just not a floral fan like i said, was not impressed with pink sugar either as it was not strong enough for me-i was trying to scent a bear and sometimes the "weaker" scents would be great as a candle or tart, or b & b, but don't work well in the bears.... the lighter scents just don't work well on dipped animals-imo anyways...

i have a whole list of other things i want to try. every time i visit the site it gets longer. i will definately be getting full bottles of cin sticks, red hot cinnamon, lime margarita, and the strawberry. I also want to try the cranberry spice mentioned above.

as far as i'm concerned, NG is going to be my "main" fo supplier. i will order a few other scents from places like daystar, Snowtop, etc. but their fragrance oils throw very well in the wax that i use.

btw, i use soy wax from Millcreek...

  13. care bear, and anyone else... for your kids, go to my website and look under herbal pillows. look at the animal pillow. these have the same ingredients my hot packs have. i can email pictures of the different kids of animals i have-ranging from bears, to a lamb, pig, not sure what all i have left but i have at least 18 of them, i think!!!

i made for both of my sons and they love them. they come in different animals. they work in the exact same way-they keep you from being stuffed up-great when little ones have a cold... and especially during the winter, it gives them a cozy warm buddy to cuddle up to. i sold 2 dozen at 2 craft shows in november.

i will get a picture of a hot pack on there after valentine's day so you can order when ready. i have a few different types of fabric so i can accomadate a little bit in that dept. darker colors really work best to keep stains from showing.

i will definately get working on these after valentine's day... i had no idea people were so interested in these. i know i'm using mine right now... as soon as it gets cold-which is about 1 to 1 1/2 hours afterwards... depending. i've even used it during the summertime...

    Thanks!!!

    Heather

  14. yes, i do make these. I don't have them on my website, but i sell them for $10, plus shipping.

yes, they are "freezeable". i don't use mine that way because i don't like the cold, but you can definately use them that way. I make a boo boo pillow for bumps and bruises, a dream pillow the info below is the for the dreamn pillows... i don't have the heat packs on my website yet, but they are long and skinny. i use them for my back, but have heard people use them for their necks, legs, i sometimes put on my abdomen when that girly time is killing me.

i will pm everyone tomorrow-i spent all day cleaning house..... and i'm exhausted!!!

it will be after valentine's day before i can make them, but they don't take too long to make!!

    Thanks everyone!!!

    Heather

  15. you're welcome.

my mom had one when she came to my house right after i ruptured the disk in my back. she had purchased it from a company at a mall for $20 and we wondered if we could duplicate it. so we found the company's website, found what ingredients were in it, i did a search for bulk herbs etc. and that is what we found.

honeyville grain is very easy to do business with. and the shipping.... under $5 and it doesn't matter how heavy your total is...

i sold some of the dream pillows, hot packs, boo boo pillows and another herbal item i made and sold the heck out of them. i sold one item purely for the herbs in it-for when you have a cold. it really opens up your nose!! it also calms you down too... i have a nephew that uses one for the sole purpose of being able to help with his allergies.

they are relatively easy to make too. i need to make myself a new one as my 2 1/2 year old nuked mine way too long and burnt the herbs... :(

    Heather

  16. best bet for bulk making these-go to this website... http://store.honeyvillegrain.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=273

they have bulk red hard wheat and flax seed very reasonable shipping. $4.49 no matter what the weight is..

i use a mixture of flaxseed

Whole Bulk Flax Seeds in a bulk 50 pound bag.

    Price Qty $48.75

    and the

Hard Red Wheat 50 LB Price $36.89

you can get a 5# bag of flax for $7.69 but no smaller on the hard wheat. I've also ordered the wheat berries much cheaper from Alison's Pantry if you have one of those (it's like a food coop type thing.) but then you pay more for the shipping/tax through them.

    I get my herbs from

www.herbalcom.com and have been very satisfied with their quality of herbs.

i've heard that the flaxseed alone absorbs the heat much faster, therefore cools off much faster too. so, i do a mix of the hard wheat and the flax.

the only time i've ever had a problem with them smelling is if you over-microwave them they smell burnt.

here's the link to the reason why you need the water... it has to do with the drying out of the grains. that's why they end up getting "burned" to which there is no cure, except to throw away and get a new one.

    http://www.herbalhugs.com/faqs.php#Q7

This is what i put in mine and why...

    Here's A List:

    Chamomile = Relaxant

    Peppermint = Relieves Pain

    Saw Palmetto Berry = Rejuvenator

    Lemon Grass = Relieves Pain

    Valerian Root = Calming Antispasmodic

Yellow Dock Root = Improves Circulation

Lavender = Relieves Headaches, Migraines& Pain

    Cinnamon = Antispasmodic

    Spearmint = Relaxant

    Yarrow = Promote Healing

    Rosemary = Relieves Pain

White Willow = Relieves Aches & Pains

HTH, i use mine every day- i have a ruptured disk in my back and this thing helps a TON!!!!!!!!!

  17. i've got a sample coming from Aroma Haven (thanks Charmiesonline) that is supposedly not as heavy on the lime.

I absolutely love NG's margarita, but to me, is heavy on the lime.

will try AH's FO and see if it's closer, then maybe mix something like Sex on the Beach with it? heavier on the sex on the beach and lighter on the margarita.

Thanks for the ideas. maybe i can find a few oils that are in the real tropical margarita. i guess i'll just have to start mixing fragrances and see what i come up with. I'll let you know. I just thought it would be easier to just buy a fragrance oil already made.... but, it's a challenge now!!!!

    Heather

  18. I'm looking for a margarita fragrance oil that's not so heavy on the lime. I've tried Nature's garden and i really love it, but am looking for one that has more of a tropical smell. to describe it is hard, but was not like a "pina colada" type smell, was similar to lime, but more hawaiin type.... if that makes sense... maybe they just renamed something else and called in a tropical margarita.

i looked up what a tropical margarita has in it, and here's what i came up with... TROPICAL MARGARITAS

    Back to Drinks Menu

    1 1/4 oz. Tequila

    1/2 oz. Triple Sec

    4 oz. Sweet & Sour

    2 oz. Guava Nectar

    OR - try Mango Nectar

    Blend with ice.

    Garnish with LIGHT

salt on rim and add "stuff"**

Mil bought a "cheap" candle before i started doing this that was called Tropical Margarita... it scented for 2-3 months for a less than 8 oz size and the candle was only $1. couldn't believe it worked that long. well, now she can't find it-they've sold out and not restocked.

she does love the lime margarita, but i would love to find her something similar.

I did a search and basically the only margarita i came up with was people talking about drinking one!! lol..

TIA for anyone who can help me out!! would love to surprise her.

  19. I'm glad to see this thread taking a positive spin... a newbie had posted a similar question when i was just starting, and i posted similar "questions" as to the possibilities of making this a full time biz... boy, did i ever get shot down and rudely so... i never claimed i wanted to "get rich fast" and i know about hard work and running my own biz-i run my own daycare.... i do, however want to quit doing daycare and run my other one instead... it is not just candles (am doing wickless ones-which still involve testing), tarts, wax dipped bears, plus eventually i want to turn it into selling "natural" type decorations, etc. I love wildlife stuff like moose, deer, bears, etc. plus, i'm married to a man who loves hunting, fishing, etc. and happens to be a game warden too.

i almost quit coming to this board, my feelings were so hurt. one poster acted like i wanted to get rich, and pretty much told me i'd never make $1000 profit per month.... ok, i realize there is a lot of cost in testing, etc. but wax dipped animals require very little testing-maybe just getting your scent strong enough and playing around with how to dip them, but i do think a thousand dollar profit is possible. especially if you budget your $$. a lot of people on this board do it more for fun-they spend all the $$ they make buying more fragrance oils, joining in on coops, etc. which is fine, that's what they want to do with their $$..

but, to really run a biz you need to make a biz plan of what you want to do, how you want to do it, 5 year plan, etc.

i started my daycare with little more than a few toys i had for my youngest son, and 6 years later i have a nice house with an attached garage turned into my daycare, an awesome backyard, and a daycare filled with as many toys as a kid could want.

you just need to put your $$ towards the best investments. do a little research first-i've really searched the boards for ideas, feedback, recipes, etc. and learned from what others are doing.

i'm hoping to quit daycare in 2 years.... so, it's not an overnight thing.... but, i have a plan...

Good luck, i hope you succeed in what is right for you.

    Heather

  20. I never even knew the catalog was coming, until the fedex guy pulled in... i wasn't expecting any deliveries.....

spent the day "dreaming" about things i could do.....

one of these days i'll order from them, but may be a while before the funds are pumped back up-stuff for valentine's day hit the pocket book hard...

    Heather

  21. http://www.douglascuddletoy.com/retailers.html

another person doing a coop right now has talked about possibly doing douglas... not sure if they will, but i would definately be in. if i could do one i would, but i run a daycare, have a 2 1/2 year old, and try to make time to get my second biz. off the ground...

if you go to that link, and send an email to their us location, ask for a catalog. i just included my name, biz name and address, phone #, sales tax id, and they mailed me their catalog-it comes on a cd...

they have a ton of things. realistic looking animals that according to bravo5 really do wax up nicely-sorry to those of you who think that's cruelty to animals....

anyone brave enough to do a douglas coop will have an order from me, and probably a few others that i know of for sure...
