  1. That's awesome. Amazing how life works sometimes. Congrats.
  2. That's awesome. :highfive: Way to go! Keep up the good work.
  3. Wow, thanks guys. I'm trying to remember where I found the leaf mold - I think it was in the candy dept of our local supermarket (Wegmans). I like the way they turned out too. The cinni mini's are using the salt dough and are hand rolled (no mold) and then baked. I use the cinnamon buns FO to make them smell yummy.
  4. Paulette, I posted in the gallery - take a look.
  5. Here are some pics of some projects I've been working on. Finally brave enough to post some - haha. Honestly though, tell me what'cha think - I can take it...
  6. You can make them any size you want. I made mine between quarter and 50cent piece sizes. The beauty is that no two are alike because they are all hand rolled. You can brush on some FO after they are done airing out.
  7. If you can't find them anywhere local, the "official" site for kerr and ball jars is Polsteins. Here is the link: http://www.polsteins.com/prod-0000264.html Unfortunately they are more expensive and you'll have to pay shipping. I would try to find a local country supply store that you can order from. There is a CountryMax chain here in NY that has happily offered to keep them and any other canning jars available all year round. HTH
  8. Hi Sharon, Sorry for the delay. Here's the recipe I use: 2 cups of flour 1 cup of salt 1.5 cups of water You can add molasses or you can add spices to add color (ie cinnamon) You could also just dip it in colored wax. Knead the dough and roll it out. Roll into a long tube like a snake. Then put it on the counter top and start rolling in the shape of a cinnabun. If it's too sticky, add more flour. You can use parchment paper to roll on. Bake at 350 for an hour or so. Watch so they don't burn, but they will get golden brown on the bottom. Then I let them air dry overnight. Then you can melt your wax and color and dip away!! I use cinnabun scent too. The thing to remember is you need to get all the moisture out before dipping. Happy rolling...
  9. All I had to tell my DH was that if I didn't test and someone's house burned down, they were coming after us cuz both our names are on the mortgage. I have finally started to sell to friends and they have been pretty understanding, I just told them I had to test every scent I offer, cuz I didn't want it to explode or anything. They laughed but didn't pressure me to hurry up anymore.
  10. That's perfect!! You just put this on the hang tag - I love it. Easy is good. Do you mind if I cut and paste?
  11. Well I got some wickless jars made today. I'm bummin though cuz I could only get 5 oz in the 8 oz jar. Angela, you said you use these jars. Is this the case with you? I'm still happy with the way they turned out. Also made some tarts (really cute leaves in fall colors), 5" pumpkin pies w/crumbly topping and blueberry cobblers. Oh, I also made a couple dozen jar candles (kinda boring after the other stuff). HaHaHa I'll have to get my camera out... Now to package and label it all. FUNFUNFUN.
  12. LOL I was just going to ask the same thing. Just poured some wickless and looked at my container warning labels and said these just won't do. Probably a general candle warning (ie do not leave unattended, hot stuff, keep away from kids and pets)
  13. It must be my lucky day. My wal-mart had lots of these 8oz platinum Ball jars. I think they will work great. I got a few pkgs to start. I talked to the guys at CountryMax too and they said they could order them year round for me if I need them. Yippee!!! How many oz do you get in a 6 oz tin? I think the jars will hold 6 oz like the 8 oz jj's. What is a good price for them? I am getting $6 for an 8 oz wicked jj candle if I sell outright and if I sell it through the gift shop I sell for $6.99 cuz they take a commission. Is this close to what you all are getting?
  14. Yup Debbi, that's how they work. I haven't used those logs so I don't know how they would work with them.
  15. I am looking for the 8oz "Ball® Collection Elite™ Platinum Jar" that come 4 to a pkg. I bought some at Walmart a couple of months ago and never used them. Now when I'm looking for them, I can't find them. Figures...:rolleyes2 I'll have to see if I can find them. Should I use a larger jar of say 16 oz? And more throw for the same FO - cool beans. It just gets better. Would you charge the same as the wicked jars of the same weight? Dumb question huh. Oh well it's been a long week and it's only weds. Angela, I looked last night and it looks like we just missed a Levines co-op. Bummer.
  16. Thanks Sara and Sharyl. I'm thinking I'm gonna giv'em a go. It seems like you can load up the wax with scent and not worry about wicking it. The best of both worlds- Great deal!!! Any recommendations on jar sizes and prices? Has anyone ordered from Harvest Scents and Traders? They have some really cool stuff. Thinking about placing an order but was wondering if anybody has used them before.
  17. How well do wickless candles sell? I have been thinking about adding them to my line, but wasn't sure if it would be worth it. Should I offer the warmers as a further selling point?
  18. I would say you should definitely invest in a thermometer. I am going to make tarts/melts tonite. The info on the 4761 wax says it will hold 6% of FO. Do you think for these I could up to 9% - will it hold that much? TIA
  19. I use a muffin pan and cupcake liners (some do not use liners - not sure how they burn though as I have not done them this way). Put cedar chips (hampster bedding) in liners, place leftover wick and add scented wax. Mix up a little so the wax makes it all the way to the bottom. Add potpourri to the top (you can also add small pinecones and let set up. The wick is optional. Some don't use a wick as customers may be confused and use it as a candle. I personally tried with and without a wick. When testing, I had a really hard time getting the wickless ones to burn. The potpourri and/or the liners wouldn't stay lit long enough for the wax to ignite. They will burn on average about 15 minutes. I also spoke with local fire company about the pinecones in a fireplace (creosote buildup). Their response was that pine should not be burned in a fireplace, however using a pinecone to start a fire should be okay. You may want to err on the side of caution and not use them at all - it's up to you. HTH:cheesy2:
  20. Here is a link to a thread from a while ago that shows a firestarter. Mine look similar to the ones in the picture. There are instructions in the thread on how to make them. They are really easy. HTH http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=133
  21. I do my potpourri with straight FO. My sales for potpourri have been slow, but are just starting to pick up. You could make firestarters using the potpourri. That is how I make mine. They look really pretty too. You can use holiday cupcake holders for them. There are some really cute autumn leaves ones that I found at Michaels and JoAnnes.
  22. I made a slew of hand rolled mini cinnamon buns out of salt dough, baked them and dipped them in scented wax. They look and smell awesome, but now I'm wondering how to package them and what to price them at. I was thinking a mason jar with a domed top and some homespun. I have my potpourri in mason jars with a cloth top and I have candles in 8 oz jelly jars with a rust domed top. I was thinking this may be too much of a good thing. If anybody has any different ideas, please let me know. I have also done some research and pricing, but am not sure on what everyone does that sells better and at what price? I have seen them in quantities of 8, 25 and 50 for all different prices. They are very cheap to make and aren't hard, but it is time consuming to hand roll them. You can get 8-10 in an 8 oz jj. and about 30 in a wide mouth quart mason jar. I got about 8 in a 4x5 poly resealable bag. Does anybody have any suggestions?
  23. I read on another board that Silicone II from GE is really good. You can get it at wally word, home depot, etc. I have never used it before though so maybe if someone else has they can let you know about setting time.
  24. I used 1343 pillar wax for this. I would try the 36z but I don't have any of that size. I do have sample packs of CD's though. Isn't the CD10 similar to a 60z? I wonder if I should try a CD4 or CD5. I could try that and if they don't work, I'll see if I can get some 36's. Thanks so much for the input.
  25. Can anyone that makes mini grubby loaves tell me what wick they use successfully. I tested today and had an awful mess. I used 2 44z's. They did really well at the top going through the grubby part and then down about a 1/2 inch I had major blowout on the side. I ended with just a puddle of wax. This was after 2 hours and 1 wick trim after it got through the grubby. Any help is appreciated, TIA
