  1. Anyone ever seen these or know anything about these? I was watching QVC with my hubby a week or two ago and Old Virginia I think it is uses them and they are really neat! They crackle just like a fire. I have a gift shop right down the street that only sells Y***** candles and he is advertising wood wicks as well but I didn't know that Y***** made candles with those wicks.

  2. My friend who also makes candles and I looked into opening up a consignment shop a couple of years ago. But we were unsuccessful in finding the right shop at the right price and location so we gave it up. I think your fears are legitimate but like the other gals here said, you will never know unless you try it. Although I'm sure you have 600 reasons why you shouldn't. If I were you, I would consider opening it up as a consignment shop and charge booth rental at least. If you have any of these types of stores around, check into what they are charging and see if you can do better. That way, you can get your rent paid and even make a little bit on the side in good months. I have my candle in a consignment shop right now in my home town and she has only been open since June, but she is doing very well. I do pretty well there myself. She has it set up really nice. It's a very nice shop, not junky at all like some antique and consignment shops can look.

    Good luck with this!

  3. This one sort of popped into my head and it's available in my State with no close matches ...

    Heart-Light Candles & Gifts

Now, which way do you like it spelled?

    HeartLight Candles & Gifts

    Heartlight Candles & Gifts

    Heart-Light Candles & Gifts

    Heart Light Candles & Gifts

    HeartLite Candles & Gifts

    Heartlite Candles & Gifts

    Heart-Lite Candles & Gifts

    Heart Lite Candles & Gifts

Which one catches you the most? Please let me know. Thanks!

  4. Amy ~ Thanks for your suggestions. It's hard to bring those three names together, isn't it. Anyway, Jennifer goes by Jen, Brianna is just Brianna and Joshua is just Joshua. However, their middle names are Elizabeth (Jen), Nicole (Brianna) and Aaron (Joshua).

EmpressC ~ What a wonderful idea! That may definitely be another option. Thank you!

  5. I am looking to change my business name and get a professional logo done for my printables. However, I can't figure out what I want and what I have liked has been already taken. So I was thinking about incorporating my two daughter's names and my son who was stillborn's name into the name of my company. My girl's names are Jennifer and Brianna and my son's name is Joshua. I was thinking about taking a part of each name and putting them all together to create one and just adding Soy Candles & Gifts to the end of it. So it would be {the name} Soy Candles & Gifts. But my problem is, I can't seem to get the three to go together right and I'm giving myself a headache. Any suggestions?

  6. Well, what I find popular this time of year are the more spicy type scents, bakery scents, apple scents, oh and coffee scents are huge for me right now as well! I would go for anything with Cinnamon or Spice either in the title or ingredients of the scent. Some of my top picks for this time of year are:

    Apple Jack & Peel

    Caramel Apple

    Cinnamon Vanilla

    Gingerbread

    Harvest Spice

    Pumpkin Spice

    Vanilla Hazelnut Mocha

    Orange Clove

    Mac Apple

    Baked Apples

    Cinnamon Buns ...

just to name a few. You might also want to consider Christmas Eve, Christmas Splendor, Bayberry, and other woodsy type scents specifically for closer to Christmas.

    HTH

  7. How many of you have had your logo created professionally and is it really expensive? Also, do you do your own labels or do you have them printed for you? My computer at home is crap so I can't do any of this anymore myself and I don't have time working full time either so if I can have someone do a really nice professional logo and maybe do some label printing at a reasonably inexpensive price, I would go for it.

Once again, any and all help on this is appreciated!

  8. Boy, with all the questions I've been asking here lately, you wouldn't think I have been making candles for over three years now, would you ... LOL.

Anyway, you all are so helpful and I really do appreciate it. I feel like I'm essentially starting all over again with this business and would like to do it right this time so that's why I'm here.

Okay, for the next question ... about craft and vendor fairs, flea markets, etc. I have no experience in these but would like to give them a try. I'm not sure if I'm asking this right but I was wondering, is there a maximum dollar amount per item that you would recommend taking? For instance, should I not take items that are priced at more than say $10 or $12? I have been told by others not to take any items that are priced over $10 to these such things but I would think that especially at a craft fair, depending on the location and size of it, that that would not be an issue. Sure it would be nice to be a little lower priced than the competition but you also don't want to sell yourself short or undercut the next guy because I don't think that would be right. Or am I being too "nice" about that? LOL

The next thing is where is a good way to find out about local Church bazaars, etc. I'm thinking this would be another good way to get my name out there. And also where would I be able to find charity functions where I could donate product to for say a door prize or something?

I work full time during the week so it's hard for me to go browsing around the neighborhood to find these things and I'm wondering if there is another way to go about finding this stuff out while I'm at work ...

  9. Georgia, I also sell mine 2 to a pack for $1.50. But because they are 100% soy and because they are uncolored, they tend to look "messy" after they have been handled. In fact, I used to sell 6 packs of tarts for $4.00 and they still went light hotcakes. I sell mostly all tarts in the consignment shop in town I have my candles in so I think switching would be no biggie for me. I'm thinking this is a good move.

Thanks so much everyone for the imput. I'm going to take the plung. Now the big question is where can I find these 3 oz clamshell jobbers for a reasonable price????
