  1. would someone please tell me how to type in here so my words don't all run together when I hit send. I keep on typing html and it isn't very up to date in this old brain. LOL (pb)Hugs,(pb)Lisa(pb)http://www.oklahomafragranceoilsupply.com

I had the same problem w paragraphs after the board came back up. I found if i altered the type of text box in the user control profile it worked.

If you go the private messages and at the side theres a link to edit options. Towards the bottom is the type of text box u can use. If you select the basic editor it should give you your paragraphs.

It worked for me anyway! LOL

  2. Maybe it's the wax I use ... but they seem to need a longer cure time than other fo's I use. I like to use fo's that only need 4-5 days to cure, with ICS, they seem to need a couple of weeks to cure. Customer service is great .... so is the price.

Is this just with soy candles? Or do their oils need cure time in paraffin as well?

I'm thinking of placing an order, I don't like bakery / buttery ones (not even a lil bit) but what other ones would you recommend?

    Thanks

  3. Hi everyone. I hope someone can help. I've kinda asked this question before, but didn't quite get the answers i wanted, so am trying again and rephrasing it, hopefully making it clearer!

Anyway basically i want to compare lots of my FOs and basically decide how much i like them and how strong they are. If their too weak, or i don't like them, i won't get them again and so won't bother testing them!

Anyway after some suggestions from an earlier post, i decided to melt a small amount of wax, enough to make 1 votive and two tea lights. Thats about 100g of straight paraffin wax, so it's easy for me to work out the percentages etc with it. Anyway i'm not tryin any additives and usin 6% FO (6g).

So basically my question (after all this wittering on!!!) is what sort of hot throw should i get from my votive and tea lights? I'm not too bothered about cold throw, but what constitutes a good hot throw and a bad hot throw with 1 votive and 2 tea lights? And would you burn the three together to get it combined, or do one at a time?

My room is quite a small room, but would you expect the whole house to smell with those lil candles?

Any input would be great as i really need to dwindle down the number of FOs i'm actually gonna properly use, and so if it's too weak (unless it is truly scrummy), it goes!!!!

    Thanks in advance

  4. Though some of my best scents have been cheap!!! LOL!

There's loads of great threads, particularly in the Fragrance discussion, about the best places to buy FO! I've tried daystar, candle science and snowtop and they have been great. Nature's garden are supposed to be great too, but i'm still waiting for my order with them (silly me chose the cheapest but longest shipping option!!!!!).

Oh and a lot of supplies often mean if you buy more you get it for less. So if you buy 1oz it's say $3, but if you buy 4oz it's say $10, so thats technically $2.50 an ounce.

    Hope that helps

  5. Hi, thanks for all your help btw cyber six, sos keep on asking qs, just want to make sure i'm completely sure whats happening!!!

I think i get now what you're getting at. The candle didn't smoke when it was first lit (and neither did the rest - sorry, should have mentioned that) seems to be a problem that comes up half way thru the candle. The mould i'm testing now is about 1 1/2 inches at the top.

But i'm very confused because it happens too with my other moulds, which are the same thickness all the way down. They burn fine at first, then after a few burns, start smoking, but leave a bit of a hollow - not too much of one, about 1/2 inch round.

Anyway hope this makes it all clearer. Thanks again

  6. I have the same problem with a pyramid, this one now is a 3d pentagon type shape, but i've also had the same problem with my ordinary square and round moulds too!

I don't have this problem with my smaller diameter candles, just the larger diameter ones!!!

I just don't understan why it's smoking, the melt pool is not very good, so one would think i would need to wick up, and there's no draught (my votives also burning r fine) and no FO!!!!!

Seems very strange to me, oh and there's no bits of debris in the candle either!!!!!!!

  7. Hi everyone. I've searched the archives but can't really find an answer to my specific question, so i'm hoping you can help.

Basically i've been having trouble wicking a few odd shaped candles. I use straight paraffin and LX wicks to make pillars.

What's been happening is in my tester candles (with no FO and very little dye - so it can't be that) they seem to start smoking whenever i light them. If i then blow the candle out, after aout half an hour, and trim the wick again and re-light them straight away, they're fine!!!

I of course trim the wick (to 1/4 inch) before i burn them and it's happening with both the smaller wicks and the larger ones, so i can't even try wicking up/down as i'm not getting a full melt pool anyway!!!

So does anyone have any idea on why the candle's are smoking?

    Thanks

  8. Hmmm, my wicks are being very strange. When i first set the wick alight, this shaped candle smokes a lot, so after a while (when it's still smoking) i blow the candle out, trim the wick and re-light it straight away.

Then it burns fine til the next time i use it!!!! It's very strange because i of course trim the wick each time before i re-light it.

Maybe all this cold weather is throwing it out? Or does anyone understand what the problem may be?

  9. Ok thanks. Also wandering if you burn one of the candles at once? Or say burn several at a time?

What sort of cold/ hot throw do you look for?

Also do you let your candles cure for a bit before you burn them?

Sorry for all the questions, just want to decide how i should test the FOs and then get on and test them!!!!

  10. Hi everyone, hope you can help me out. I've gone a bit crazy lately and bought loads of new FOs!!!

Anyway i basically want to test the FOs and see how i like them and how strong they are and whether to buy in larger quantities, rather than wcking etc for selling. I want to try to test how much i like them quickly, so i can start testing etc for selling and buy more of a few!!!

So was wandering how you all test out new fragrances in paraffin candles - i thought about making a couple of votives but not sure if i should expect a strong throw from a single votive! Also do you start in general with the 1oz / pound of FO?

    Thanks

  11. I've ordered from pourette and found them great! I live in the UK and so customer service has to be good for me to get through to them about shipping etc. Pourette quoted me a great shipping price for surface mail and the items i got from them (moulds and dye mainly) were great! Not to mention i got it in about 2 weeks, so i think they didn't send it surface after all!

What are their fragrances like though? Any recommendations for when i next need some dye??

    Would def recommend tho!!!!1

  12. Hi, i hope someone can help me! I've been testing some more complex shaped pillars, like a very fat based pyramid and a 3D type pentagon shape. I've tried to use the size wick for the centre bit of the pillar.

Anyway i've tried a range of LX wicks above and below the stated wick, but i've not had very good results. I've had smoking wicks but a small melt pool causing a hollow. I've also had bad mushrooming on some of them too. I use LX wicks for my other pillars and found them to be very good for those.

Anyway i was just wandering if people find that flatbraid wick is better than LX? Or is flat braid not as good as LX wick? Is there any other wicks i could try?

Anyway what sort of wick do people use in pillars, it's just straight paraffin i'm using.

    Thanks in advance.
