  1. Hi

I'm wondering if some of you could help me with a question I have. I have quite spotty skin, and as I'm now in my mid twenties, it's getting kind of annoying!

I've recently gotten into M&P soap and thought I'd try to make my own spot soap (nothing i buy works that well).

I've tried a M&P soap with 5% Tea tree EO and it worked quite well, but am thinking there's other EOs I could add too.

I've done some research and read that the EOs of Lavender, Rosewood/rosemary, chamomile, bergamot and geranium oil are good for acne.

I'm just wondering if anyone could suggest which ones to try, and in what concentrations (as %).

    Thanks in advance.

  2. So far, this one sounds the closest

Thanks for those links, I'll definetely check them out.

I'd be willing to get it for you, then ship it to you??

Thanks for the offer, but at present I'm not wanting to buy any more scents, just wanting to know if I can still get the scent. I may take up your offer soon though (and when the pound perks up against the dollar!)

  3. Hi

I've had a sample of Candle Science's Jack Frost for ages now and I finally got around to using it recently. I found it fantastic and buyers seemed to like it too!

There's only one problem - I was going to order some more but learnt that candle science no longer ships internationally.

I've seen versions of Jack Frost around but the description sounds kinda different.

So I'm hoping someone can let me know what shops sell a Jack Frost which is pretty similar to candle science.

    Thanks

  4. Hi

I've been away from candle making for a while now, but got back into it over Christmas. Therefore, I've only just found out that pourette is no more!

That's a shame as there were loads of moulds on there I wanted to try. They also sold powdered candle dye in exactly the same shade as the reddig dye chips. I've tried to find the powdered dye on other sites, but not found the reddig dye variety like pourette sold. Does anyone know where else I can get these powdered dyes?

    Thanks

  5. Yep,it is the same person, they have an ebay store too, but they have much more stock and lower prices at their actual store. Their also very nice to deal with and send thigns very quickly. No idea why link didn't work, it works when i try it, very strange. Anyway if you do a uk search you should find it ok. Their dye is great too!

  6. Hi Thanks for the help. I sounds like my main error might be mixing in the dye too much!I give it a good few stirs, but will try with just one or too. Though one more question - does your wick usually stay in the candle? Even when mine have cooled over night, the wick still seems to come out!!

    Thanks

  7. Hi, I was wandering if anyone on here can help me with marble pillars. I've tried several now and none have come out very marbley at all. I've been following the instructions on the techniques section and haven't managed to find anything appropriate searching.

I think i know where i'm going wrong, but not quite sure how to fix it. Ok I think firstly i'm adding the liquid dye too soon, but have tried different consistencies with no luck, so could anyone please tell me how you know the wax is ready for the dye? Also do you spoon the wax in, or just pour it in?

Also i'm wandering if i'm using the heat gun too much? How long do people use the heat gun on the mould to smooth the candle?

Also another problem is that i'm finding the wick often likes to come out, like it's not mixing with the wax very well, as the wax isn't as hot. So ermm any advice on these three things, or anything else it could be? Using straight paraffin with 10% stearine in a 3inch round aluminium pillar. Using candle science liquid dye, about 1 drop for a candle about 4 inches high in the 3 inch diameter mould (Too much maybe?)

Thanks in advance for any help

  8. Those candles look great - as do all the ones i've seen of yours on here. I was wandering if you have any tips on how you get such smooth transitions between colours?

My layers in rustics always seem to overlap too much and give an odd mixed colour where the waxes meet (The previous wax always seems to leave a mark on the mould which the other layer doesn't get rid off)

  9. To be honest i'm not really sure how good it is!!!

I like it, i tried several different waxes from places in the UK and tested them for colour, scent and how well they burned - also how nice the wax was to use. Craft wise wax was my favourite for everything but scent, but only slightly lower than candelicious. As theirs has suddenly gone up, i reckon it's cheaper just to add a little extra scent!!!

I find it also gives a smoother, neater candle, so not so good for mottles, but great for other pillar candles! I recommend you at least try them.

I'm not really sure how people test how good a wax is really, there's soooo many different types in the USA, no idea how they choose them.

Any ideas on how people test how good waxes are?

  10. Hi, Thanks for the info. Think i'll stick to craft wise wax then, that works out as £1.80 per kilo if you buy it in the 25kg pack, and they have free postage on that. They also offer a 10% discount if you order over £100, so two 25kg packs and a few bits and bobs and you get 10% off too, so works out then as £1.60 kilo. They only do beaded wax.

  11. hi anjie' date=' have you tried craftwise?

5kg is £10.99 (its free postage over 15) so if ordering more it'll be free. I think it may be cheaper for 20kg. 48hour delivery too.

I was very pleased and would like to recommend them :)[/quote']

Hi, Glad you're pleased with craft wise!!! I wasn't sure who you meant at first then i remembered hobbicraft changed their name to craft wise (maybe too much confusion on the big brand store hobby craft!! LOL!!!)

Oh and has anyone had any luck with british wax? They don't list any prices on their web site so i didn't bother looking any further as i thought it might just be for big business, wholesale and what not!!!

    Anyone tried them?

    Thanks

  12. I find w layers i pour all mine at the same temp, only do the final repour hotter. If the wax is a still a bit soft in the mould, the next layer should stick to it fine anyway!

Wish i could post some pics of my rustics, i made some nice oceany ones (after inspiration from here). Oh well

That silly post attachment link is not there!!!!

  13. There is no way to ship by "surface" if there is an ocean between you and the supplier. The only mail, per se, that goes by boat these days is freight.

Hi, sorry didn't make myself clearer - by surface i meant via boat, that's why it takes sooo long. In the UK for international we just call it Air mail or surface mail, which always means boat for us, so i thought it would be the same in the US.

So can FOs between 141 and 200 go via boat (surface)??

  14. Hi, I've recently been experienting with rustics and found that the generally come out looking ok. I waited for the wax to start to form a thin lining on the top of the pouring jug, then i poured it into the mould. I did get air bubbles, but i found using a long wooden bbq stick worked great! I pressed this down the sides of the mould to squeeze out the air bubbles. The final candle had signs of air bubbles, but they weren't v deep at all and made a nice addition to the rustic effect.

Wish i could post some pics of some i've recently made - see what you all think, but the button for posting attachments isn't there!!

  15. It's in the back of my mind to become a supplier Inez, but I have just landed 6 wholesale accounts for my candles - so I am run off my feet from 7am to 10pm every night. I am currently looking for premises as I'm going to need it to store all the stuff I need for the wholesale accounts. I have also run out of space - so don't know where to put a few hundred kilos of oils.

However, saying that - i've just been on the phone to my fragrance manufacturer and they have said that they will reduce their minimum order requirements for me, so the idea of becoming a supplier is looking more promising as I don't need as much space. I think I will only offer fragrances for now and see where it leads me.

Sugarysweet - in the long term I will be setting up an online business selling fragrance oils and candle making supplies professionally - what I was saying is that in the short term, I can share MY personal stash of scents to those who need it. These scents are easily obtainable again from my supplier - but I'm not going to buy oils just for resale at the moment as I'm too busy - which is why I can only spare up to 1lb at a time on any particular oil because it will come from my own personal collection, which I need for my business.

    Nat

That's great - though obviously you've got your commitments first, understand fully! Anyway i might never get going with this candle business, but fingers crossed!!!!

  16. If this is referring to BCN suddenly not shipping USPS at all, their own e-mail stated that they ARE working on a way to still legally ship the FOs that they can via USPS. But it's going to take some time to figure out a system not only for their packers, but also for website orders, to be able to fit into the USPS regulations. Until then, they've said no FOs shipping via USPS. But they did say they're working on it. This is from the email they sent their client/newsletter list.

"We are doing our best to investigate this further, and have tried contacting our local postmaster as well. Once we are confident that we have all of the new regulations completely spelled out and clarified, if there are any feasible ways for us to offer priority mail on certain products that meet the guidelines, we will try to do so. We hope you will bear with us while we get this figured out, and we are very sorry for the inconvenience."

So be patient with them. They're doing everything they can.

That's good to know. Having only heard from BCN that they no longer wil ship USPS, this is looking better. I don't mind waiting a bit for them to try to get it sorted. After the communication i got from them, it seemed more like a like it or lump it situation. Hopefully the suppliers then will get it sorted and be able to offer USPS again - especially internationally!!!!

  17. That's such a shame. I've got loads of scents under 200F which i'd love to have again, but i won't be able to get them now. Now that i know they can't be shipped internationally.

So effectively a complete waste of money, too little to really do much with, but unable to get any more! Such a shame - if only everyone had been aware right from the start, this wouldn't have suddenly caused so many problems.
