  1. I am looking for a good, strong watermelon, know where I can find one? I love this FO for summer, but a couple I tested, were pretty good out of the bottle, but when I made it into a candle (I use J223) it was a "soft" smell. I'd have to go look, but one i liked but was a softy was from MMS. Jamie
  2. Red popped in my mind first. Like the Brawney papertowel guy. He always wore flannel. I've never heard of this FO, where can I find it and what does it smell like? Jamie
  3. Carol- is the vicks you have smell like vicks vapor rub? Jamie
  4. I think once it's all melted, it is stronger, but like you said, it will not last as long as a candle, in my opinion. I make candles with a wick, but I do sometimes put my left over, unused wax in a tart warmer. And again, this is what my opinion is.....I have to pour the melted wax out in a few days, where my candle I can re-light several days. I think a candle does last longer because you are only heating a portion at a time, and the unmelted wax remains scented. Now I have put a whole candle on a warmer before, but it was such a waste to me. Especially the large 16 ounce ones. That size candle would last me a month or more, but on the warmer, it's scent is gone in 3-4 days. But I will say this, when I plug in a tart warmer, ( I always use electric) it might stay on all day, where if I had lit a candle, it would have been blown out in a few hours. SO..... a tart could possibly last longer than mine do, if it was cut off as if it were a candle. There are upside and downsides to both. Just what you prefer. Jamie
  5. No heat gun? how about a blowdryer? Jamie
  6. Is this emulisfied body butter just like lotion, but just calling it a different name? I guess I'm wondering what the differance is. Can you tell me? Jamie
  7. Could you make like a lotion bar but pour the balm into a push up lotion stick ? That would be easy to apply, it's like a BIG chapstick tube. I use the clear ones for lotion tube/bars. I'd like to try making the guys an aftershave stick, do you have a receipe you'd like to share? Jamie
  8. I love to make lotion also. I seem to make most of it too thick and have to put it into jars because it won't pump. But I hate dipping my hand in a jar. I don't like it all under my fingernails. I really like using the pump bottle.
  9. When making tarts, what is the difference in using a soft container wax, compared to a firmer votive wax ? I've been reading up on tarts, and some do use their candle wax, but some also add beeswax or stearic to make a harder wax. Does the firmer wax hold the FO longer when warmed ? or just because it's easier to get out of molds? Jamie
  10. I can relate. This is what I did. I did a dumb thing the other night. I have a spout on my presto pot.......I turned it on, threw in the wax and then I proceeded to work on the wicks. Guess what ? MY SPOUT WAS OPEN ! I turned around and I had a stream of warm, wax all down the from of my cabnets and on my tile floor. On the ceramic tile, I use a spatula to scrap it off the best could, but it left a waxy film . My cabinets were harder to clean, I didn't want to scrape the paint off. So I got my heat gun out and LIGHTLY warmed the wax enough to wipe off with a papertowel. I ended up applying the heat gun on my ceramic tile to warm it. It did pretty good. I use a very soft wax. When I tried to wipe it, it just smeared even worse. Jamie
  11. I finally found where I was looking at. www.wholesalesupplies.com I just bought 10 wicks for $2. Thanks ! Jamie
  12. I use zinc wicks with my J223. But I get a big mushroom and a lot of smoking if I don't trim it every 10 minutes. I tried wicking down, thought that might help, but it tunneled, it didn't melt all the way across my tin. If you find one you like, I'd love to know. I have a box of wicks in the attic that I have ordered in the past. I kept them so I'd know what not to order. I've found, with my testing these did not work: paper core (60-44-18) (my notes) Burns down the middle, slow burn, not a good melt pool HTP Coreless cotton wicks sizes: HTP 1212 HTP 126 HTP 1312- smokes VERY bad, black sute I have about 3 more wicks, I will find them and try to post the notes I wrote on them. I'd love to hear your test results on some you tried. Jamie
  13. I have searched my suppliers and a I can not find a place that sells anything less than 100 wicks. I know I saw a supplier somewhere last week that sold like 5 of each for around $2. But I can not remember what site I was on. Please point me in the right direction if such a supplier exist. I might have been dreaming :undecided . I am looking for a LX 22 series and an ECO-10 I really hate to order a 100 of each. I'd like to try it first. Thank You, Jamie
  14. I''ve read that some do need repours, but I did not. My candle tops were smooth and no sink holes at all. I use tins, so I am not sure about spots. I did notice one good thing, I used a suger cookie before and it seeped through, (on thetops) but with the J225, it did not leak out at all. So this would be good if I used a heavy FO. But I only make sugar cookie in the fall/winter. I just like the softer wax, and the price. This J225 doesn't seem much different than the J-50. Jamie
  15. I like strawberry-kiwi from LoneStar.
  16. I just moved from your area and I never heard of craftlobby. Do they have a web site or address you could share? I'm in the Memphis area a lot, I'd love to go by and see their supplies while I'm in town. I've made candles for years and I never heard of them. Learn something new everyday ! Jamie
  17. I at least will get an idea of cold scent. I think mixing a FO with wax is better than sniffing out of the bottle alone. I appreciate your replies. I'll never know til I try. Testing, testing, testing is how to come up with a good candle. My method may teach me nothing, but it's one test I can mark off my list. Merry Christmas, Jamie
  18. I use 8oz tins. But I had a closet full of the 3 oz tins. So I did my math....hope is was correct, but I made each candle different scents and use dixie cups to mix and pour with. I figured the break down to be 7grams of FO to 57G of wax. (I'd have to look to see what % of FO was) I made 21 tiny tins, and I used the same wicks, but I used smaller ones for the smaller tins. I can't wait to cure these and burn to test the scent throw. I had FO from SOS, MMS, C&S, and Lonestar. Since I never change my wax, tin or wick, I thought this would be a great way to test the FO from different companies. Merry Christmas Jamie
  19. I have ordered several scents from Save on Scents and I am not too thrilled with these. Out of 10 I may like 2 or 3. Is it just me ?
  20. This morning I ckecked the candles I made last night. And I think the wax is too hard. I just wanted to share my opinion since this is a new wax. If you use J223, keep it. Don't waste money on the J225. I wish I hadn't ordered 2 slabs ! Jamie
  21. I ordered some of this wax and tried it tonight for the first time. I always use the J223, but I was out of wax and saw the "new J225". I thought I would try this only because When I made a batch of candles scent "sugar cookie" . the oil seeped out of the candle top. And I used only 1oz per pound of wax. This sounded like it would be better. The J225 seemed a little harder/firmer. I did not have to do a second pour. They cooled off and the tops were smooth......like the J223. I will burn these in a few days and let you know how it burned. I will stick to the J223. Jamie
  22. Can you give me the website address for old mill ? Jamie
  23. My sister loves this perfume. Does anyone know where I can buy the FO for candles and/or Bath & Body ? Thanks, Jamie
