  1. So I made a 3lb batch of lavender patchouli EO's, no color added, wrapped it up and left it for 24 hours, and it appears I got a partial gel.

But my question is...why is it green? Is it from the EO's?

Recipe is light olive, coconut, palm, palm kernel, avocado and castor. And coconut milk.

I also soaped at RT. Maybe I shouldn't have allowed it to gel?

  2. A cosmetic manufacturer permit is required for any person that manufactures or repackages cosmetics in Florida. The fee is $800 for two years plus a one-time pre-permit inspection fee of $150.

So simply adding a fragrance to a cosmetic base manufactured by, let's say, WSP, is considered "repackaging and would require a permit.

What is a “cosmetic”? A cosmetic is an article, with the exception of soap, that is: (a) intended to be rubbed, poured, sprinkled, or sprayed on; introduced into; or otherwise applied to the human body or any part thereof for cleansing, beautifying, promoting attractiveness or altering the appearance; or (
    B)
intended for use as a component of any such article.

So my question is, are things like bath teas, bath bombs, bath salts that are not intended to be directly placed on the skin considered "cosmetics?"

  3. Thanks!!!! Like I said, the "vision" has been in my head for a long time. I was very pleased with the outcome! I'm working on a beaded bracelet for my DIL for Mother's Day. In the middle row of beads there are gold letter beads that will spell out the 3 grandkids names separated with an AB crystal. The outside rows will have Swarvski cystals in the colors of their birthstones and gold seed beads. And it will have a gold "Mom" charm having from the clasp.

  4. Candles, soap....and NOW...just what I needed, another addiction My newest addiction is making beaded jewelry. I took a couple of classes to learn some stitches. This set is my latest creation, inspired by a visit to Bora Bora where I saw the most gorgeous black and white pearl jewelry over 20 years ago.

(It's been in my head ever since.) :laugh2:

  5. Does anyone know if the differences between Lavender (Lavandula Officinalis) and Lavandin (Lavandula Hybrida) are detectable after the lye monster does it's thing in CP soap?

From what I read, Lavender is sweeter, more floral, and subtle, while Lavandin has a more camphor and is longer lasting. I like the idea of longer lasting, but not the camphor. :undecided

For those of you who have soaped with both, what's your preference?

  6. Barbara has some excellent videos. Great mention, Steve.

Chandler, this might be Quietgirl's recipe I had found in a thread. But, I can't confirm for sure. The post said it was Quiet's except that the Kokum was Shea.

    Coconut oil 15%

    Safflower oil 25%

    Crisco 15%

    Kokum Butter 5%

    Olive oil 25%

    PKO 15%

Wonder if this is new Crisco or old Crisco? Anyone know?

PS Speedy healing wished to Barbara!

  7. I have no way of knowing how close I got in my EO blend, but it smells pretty good! I've been playing with it for a week! Top notes of Eucalyptus, Lemongrass, Orange & Spearmint, middle notes of Juniper Berry, Lavender, Rosemary, anchored with a base note of Balsam Fir Needle and just a touch of LItsea Cubeba. Now what to call it? Religious Experience? Garden of Eden?

Maybe I should wait to see how well it survives the lye monster. I also think I'm going to order some of the Sweetcakes Original Clairol Herbal Essence (type) FO to refresh my memory.
