  1. Hey there girlie! I've never heard this before. You are well aware of my frosting issues with the CBA but I have alot of 464 left over that I only use for my Massage Candles now that I may have to try this with! I always learn something new from you! Thanks! Tami
  2. I was going to try 'Joy' from Natures Garden.
  3. I heard over on the 'other side of the board' that someone over here in the 'veggie' section may be able to help me. I guess that I am wanting to become a 'veggie' to! I've been making candles for about 1-1/2 years but have never used soy. I now have people asking me if I make candles using soy. I am wanting to do a fundraiser and decided to go soy containers for it. I will be using 3.25 dia X 2-4 in jars but am not sure what size wicking to use. From my research, I've read that when using soy you should go up 1-3 in wick size? Is that true? One other question for you. Why do I want to go soy? Is it alot better than regular container wax? I've heard that it can hold more scent without leaking and that it has a good cold throw. True or just said for advertising purposes? I was thinking of trying Joy from N.G. Am I on the right track? I thank any and all of you that respond to me! Have a wonderful night.
  4. Thanks for letting me know about the 'stickys', I'll check there. I'm not afraid to do the research on it and have spent countless hours and money on my hobby thus far (as I'm sure most of you have done as well!) One of my 'New Years' resolutions is to get my candle business up and running even if it is only with a few repeat customers.
  5. My daughter and I have been making candles for about 1-1/2 years now. We make different kinds (container, Hurricanes and pillers) and are always experimenting but I want to make some to sell as a fundraiser and want to stick to one kind to make it easier and quicker to make. I'm hoping that I can get some candle customers also from the fundraiser as well! I have decided to go with a soy container candle (I've never used soy before). I will be using 3.25 dia containers 2-4 in tall. The question that I'm having is what size wick to purchase and where the best place to purchase it from is. From my understanding if you are using a single pour soy wax, you need to go up in size in wick size? I want a good cold throw as well as a good throw when burning so I really need someone's help. I would like to place my online order tonight if someone can get back with me. Any and all help will be appreciated! Thanks bunches!
  6. I'm an amateur candle maker but I love making the martini glass candles. The ones that I purchased were from JoAnns for .99 each and then I dressed them up with flowers hot glued around the bottom of the glass. I scented them with 'Pleasures' scent, colored my wax a beautiful pink and used different colored pink flowers (using the stems and leaves for additional color) with a bit of gold highlights. They were a huge hit at my office. I'm going to make some more and sell these ones. Good luck with them!
  7. Thank you! I'll do just that and try the sample packs from a few of them! I love making candles, it's so relaxing to me. In my job I work 6 days a week apx 14 hour days (plus I'm a single mom to a 9 year old and a 19 year old) so I really needed an 'out' and making candles is so satisfying. I'm really excited to try some of the ideas that you all have posted on here. Like I said in my first post, you all seem so, so talented! Thanks again!
  8. Hi all! I've been lurking around on the board for a while and finally I just couldn't stand it anymore and had to join! My daughter, Kaeli (9 yrs) and I just started making candles in the late fall. We went wild when we started but them my business started keeping me so busy that we took a bit of a hiatus until this weekend when we started up again. My daughter wants to get into selling them and her brother (graduating this year) said that he would design a website for her once she gets enough product to put on there. We are pretty good if I do say so myself and we love to try all the new things that we see. You all have some absolutely beautiful candles on this board and all seem to be so talented! My daughter makes the little balloon candles and then paints them but I'm going to try my hand at the larger orb candles with embeds tonight. I'll post some pictures to show you where I am in my progress with my works. My question for you is this, I've been reading all of your posts about the different fragrances and what is the best company to purchase from. I've been purchasing my fo from N.G. and have been satisfied so far. I couple of their fo that I've purchased have great cold throws and I love that! I want to purchase some new oils though and try some of the other companies that you all have recommended. So tell me should I go with Bitter Creek, Just Scent, Peak or Brighter Scents? I'm going to order some more sample scents and want some really great strong scents with great throw. These will be for selling so I want to make sure that the throw is good. And I would like to find a company that I will stick with for all of my scent purchases. I've got my wax down pretty good and don't seem to have too much of a problem getting it to do what I want it to, I just want to perfect my technique now! I also want to do a candle for my dad with a picture of the new puppy that I got him for his birthday (he's turning 80 tomorrow!) so if anyone has any tips for me in this area, I would love them! I'm excited about being a member of the board and look forward to sharing my candles with you and getting some honest feedback. (my mom is pretty partial and tells me that they all look great!) thanks! T.
