  1. THe 464 is nice, but it performs more like a soy wax than the 70/30 does, imho. It frosts and needs to cure longer, but it does have a great throw. It is also much cheaper to ship to me than the G/L wax is. The GL sets up very nice. I had great hot and cold throw after a short curing time and very few wetspots that didn't even appear until after I burned the candle. It also colored very nicely. But, I'm testing JS 50/50 now and probably won't be using the 464 or the 70/30.

Now I too am wondering if I might just go with the JS 50/50 if I can find who carries it and the shipping doesn't kill me.

I know my customers love the fact that I'm using all natural soy wax the 464.

  2. Just to clarify, I did contact Brenda directly and she gave me a quote of appx $120 to ship 4 cases of wax to me (that $120 is for the shipping only, not including the cost of the wax). I can get 4 cases of the wax (with same weight) shipped from Candle Science for about $38. I honestly cannot afford to use this wax. Maybe they'll open another store in VA, lol. Would be nice :D

I get my wax from Gateway and they are across the US from me and they got me a great deal on shipping. They actually use a truck line to haul it.

Maybe some of these other companies like Greenleaf can shop with them too if they are a better deal. It would probably help them get more customers to buy their product if they can get the freight prices down.

The GL wax to me because shipping is so expensive comes to $1.70 a pound!

I can't even begin to afford those kinds of prices. I'm in the NW and Texas has a terrrible hub for shipping things.

  4. I tried double wicking this jar with 2 htp 83's and after @ 3 hours had almost no flame. Should I wick up to 93's(which I kinda worry about because the 83's made the jar a little hot on the top) or is there a better wick I should be using? I only have sample packs of eco's and lx's, but I have most of the htp's and some hemp 1400's. How far apart should the wicks be when you double them? I am using Ecosoya pure soy and 9% FO. Any help is very appreciated!!!

Oh yeah the jar is @3 3/4 in at the widest point.

For a jar that size I would try an HTP 1212 or maybe a 126 or 1312.

I don't use that wax, but the first one I mentioned would be a good start...HTH,

  5. There definitely is a correlation between wick size and FO throw. I had been testing GL 70/30 with the melting pot jar using 2 x 740 and got great throw, but not quite cleaning the jar and the wicks were drowning after 2/3 of candle was consumed. When I wicked up to the 745, I had great MP, and good hot throw but it smelled different, almost a burned scorched smell. I can't single wick the melting pot jar, and I really like the Premier 700s, so I'm going to try some cottons and HTPs in the 70/30. Haven't yet tested the wicks in soy, but that is my next project.

    Hi Geekrunner,

I've been gone for a while and haven't been able to check the board, but I ordered 5 cases of the 464 based on what everybody has said about it and I couldn't wait or afford the expensive wax I was using.

Now I see that you are all trying a GL 70/30. Where is that from and which wax do you like better? The 464 or the GL 70/30?

My findings on the 464 is that if they get a good week to cure they are stronger. Every day when I check the candles they are stronger the next day even 5 days down the road.

I also got the wick samples from Wickit and now I am not hearing very good things about those either.

They are a darn good price...too bad!

    Thanks for your response,

  6. I would try the 1212 first,,,I also tested the 1312 and it worked well with the 464 if you look through the thread here at my posts,,,,I am testing the new 700 premier series and starting to love it!!! Just give it a go and see how it works,,,,HTH

I have not heard of the 700 premier series wicks. Can I ask where you got them and how did you hear about them and how your testing with them is going?

    Thanks,

    Rhonda

  7. Hi Jason,

received my wax sample form Gateway and I'm a little unsure of melting temp.

On the bag it says pour at 175-180 and that's what most people are pouring at here, but when we talked on the phone I wrote down that you said "melt to 150 & pour" of course adding everything you need to first and then pour. This wax takes forever to solidify and I'd rather heat to 150 to cut down on my time of waiting to pour.

    Will that work out ok?

    Thank you,

    Rhonda

  8. Hi all,

I am new to this board but have been making candles full time going on 4 years.

I am at a point in my business that I must revamp several things including my wax.

I am currently using Calwax 119 100% soy so they claim on the soy part and it is costing me more than it is worth to work with it physically because it is in slab form and a pain to work with, load into melter etc.

I just found a supplier in my area that carries the C-3 and I can pay $50 and just go pick it up when needed, no shipping.

However, I am not used to this new wax and find I don't like the center portion around the wick to be so liquified for like 1-2 hours after pouring.

I decided to research further and found the GB 444,449, and now from your posts 464.

I know nothing about these waxes and I need a fantastic hot and cold throw 1 pour as I make the candles and they go to my customers within the next day or two after I've made them. I do not have the time to hold on to the candles to cure for a week or two. Won't happen. I am pouring 4 oz. tins to sell as samples too so people can figure out which fragrances they like in order to place orders to purchase larger candles from me that they really like.

The GB wax is more expensive as it has to be shipped to me and then I have to buy 5 cases of it and have the room to store it also.

I just don't know which one to use or the one that is the better one and ready to burn in a day or two with all the qualitys I need to be able to produce a winner???

I was told from a source that the 444 was the ultimate greatest thrower in the bunch, but I do not recall anything about the 464 on the site at GB, but am wondering about the 464 if it is the ultimate???

Of course I will test them and see, but I called Jason and left a message and have not received a call back from him to talk.

I would really appreciate your help!
