  1. Erin, they are way too expensive. They charged almost $4.00 for them. I just bought them because they were different and I wanted to bring one home and show my husband. They were easier to wick though. I can say that Libby makes them. I believe it was their design your own line. I was a cannister roundish looking base with a lid the same as a metro or a melting pot jar.

Luci, if you use soy wax. Try Either CD 12 or 14 for the 16 oz. Double wicking of course. But that size works for me in those jars.

  2. I don't know who came up with exactly two weeks. That is probably why nothing can legitimately be found about it. I think a couple of days for the wax to settle, because you are taking a solid and making it a liquid and then making a solid again. People tend to be more impressed with made to order because you are doing it just for them. Otherwise why even advertise hand made? So don't stress over it. If you use a good wax with a good FO then nobody will tell the difference but a chandler. As I say we tend to be our own worse critics. We actually tend to be more perfectionists about our candles then the big companies. I have some pretty lousy Yankme's to prove it.

  3. I feel yah Geek I have three cases myself my husband like them so much he ordered all the sizes in those jars. He tends to be a little impulsive.

I was on the same wavelength. We went to a cajun resturaunt that serves their deserts in ball jars. So I brought them home and made candles in them. It made me think to have a down home jar and a contemporary jar too. Not a Ball jar but maybe something a little more rustic. I kind of swing both ways when it comes to candles. I found a jar from libbly that is sort of like an apothecary jar but the mouth of the jar is the same concept as a metro. It just does not have the metro base. Michael's carries them.

  4. I agree with all of you. Geek, George is right give up on those 24 ouncers. I know as a consumer myself that I don't bother with that size. I get sick of the same scent and want to try something else. The 16oz jars are pretty generous esthetically. But I agree with the air flow. I notice if I put this jar in certain air flows of the house it does not tunnel properly. I have used a wider mouthed jar with the same wick, FO and wax and it burned beautifully. I just love the look of this jar though so I am being to stubborn to give up on it.

Okay here is another site that uses these jars and they won't show a 24ounce lit or openend. Plus they sell those square jars that you buy at Walmart and have it single wicked. For soy that is a tough one. I have seen that particular jar posted all over this board because soy chandlers were having difficulties without having to double wick. www.soylights.com. SoyLights does make a good candle so I am not bashing. I did buy the 9 oz cascade jar up in lake Geneva and it burned well. However that was all this particular store carried. That particular jar looked like it was a CD 22 maybe. I use that same size.

Yes, I admit I do comparitive shopping for candles but I like to make sure I am not doing anything wrong with the wicking. I am my own worse critic.

  5. I think Soapermom is right. If something smells good and comes in fancy packaging people with think it's good stuff and buy it. If it comes in cardboard and has green somewhere on it, people will think it's "natural" or "organic" and buy it. I think that is true in the case of most American consumers of b&b products.

However, there is a small percentage that will read labels, regardless of the packaging. Some look for things from a naturalist's or vegan's concerns. Other's read labels in an effort to avoid certain chemicals that cause allergic reactions on the skin.

I would imagine there are more people with skin allergies than there are people who simply choose to be vegan or "naturalist." Products geared toward any one within those groups makes up a very small percentage of the marketplace overall. But, because there is such a small share, you can get premium prices for it.

That's why I mentioned that half the consumers look on the back and read three botanical ingredients and automatically thinks it's all natural.

If ingredients are not that important then why do cp soap makers make soaps and why do people buy them when they could go to Bath and Body Works and buy the name and still have the same scents?

That is just speculation not pointing a finger at anyone so please don't take offense. I admit I use FO's in my candles but for skincare I take more caution. I don't want people to blame me for an allergy because they had no idea they were allergic to Laureth Sulfates. Bath and Body is a high liability risk that is why we need insurance to sell it and FDA requires you list the ingredients. To make the buyers beware of the ingredients other than just the pretty packaging. Only not all buyers are bewaring. Sometimes its the consumers ignorance that does creat law suits.

  6. Well show us your scandalous side lol!

    Let's see:

    Passion

    Scream (or moan)

    Sex Kitten

Cuffs (ha ha ... smell of metal)

    Embrace

Let's work with something other than chocolate FOs :D

    :laugh2:ROFL your killing me woman!

my husband would get a kick out of those names he is such a pig. Those would be great names for B&B products too! lol

  7. I tried out the BCN lip balm base and I love it. I am the type of person who needs a balm of lip therapy by my bedside and in my pocket at all times. If I go without it I instantly get chapped lips. I just recently grew allergic to Petroleum lip balms, my lips get a rash on them. So I found out that beeswax products work better but the ingredients in this base are perfect for me. Eventually I will do it from scratch but I keep reading all your posts and finally had to try it. Thanks girlfriends for posting about this so much. You save me a lot of $$$ in lip therapy.

  8. Michelle look up memorial candles and you will find a ton of websites for them. There are a lot of chandlers on this site too that do them. Just look in the gallery to hunt them down. I did the same thing for my grandma because my grandfather's death was hard on her so I bought her that memorial rock with the flame in it and had his name engraved on it. So she can reuse it over and over as long as there is oil in it.

  9. Okay I hope this is the right place to put this question, it pertains to bath and body. My fiance and I are having a debate regarding natural or not natural products. I prefer to make my products using natural ingredients, oils, and butters, he says that nobody reads the ingredients so why does it matter. He says that everybody goes to the store and only reads the front and picks which one looks the best and/or is the best price, in which I very much disagree. I would rather spend a little more to know I was getting the best product. Does anyone have any input on this subject? Thanks.

I have to say that is a typical man's viewpoint. I am for organics and natural products that do not test on animals. Natural does not necessarily mean all botanical. It means taking something and not messing with its chemical composition. Organic is the farming process that focuses on conserving without the use of synthetics, bioengineering or chemicals. If you research enough there are all natural and organic products. No there is not 100% organic it doesn't exist as far as skincare. The U.S only bypasses 70% of the product to be organic the rest does have to be natural but still has parabens in it. However I have researched that Australia has the highest standards for their products. They are at 98% the other 2% is usually natural preservatives. I am by no means a tree hugger but I value my body and I don't want any harmful chemicals just because a celebrity is using it or it has pretty packaging. I also want whats best for my children and synthetic preservatives just to sell my product just won't cut it. Its not who I am.

I recently purchase a skin care line that was organic. And I will honestly admit I am a skin care whore! I use to be an esthetician years ago then became an infertility nurse. So I always search high and low for a reasonable skin care line. Then I stumbled across a product that was organic and all natural. I can honestly say they were true to form. Plus I love it! I put it on feeling Wow! I really did something good for my skin instead of grasping on to youth and buying something from the Lancome counter. It all sounds cheesy but after reading everything on it, it all came together and made sense. The problem is we as consumers always look for the easy way out. Plus we are quick to follow fads. Especially as women if we see someone famous like Rachel Welch (Mac cosmetics new face) who is pretty old thanks to surgical engineering. then we all figure we will all look like her so we buy without considering the long term consequences. The very last thing we do is read labels because the average american doesn't know what half of the ingredients are. They see two or three botanical ingredients and automatically thinks its healthy. Crystal, if that is where you heart is going then follow it. Its your project not his. I tell my hubby to butt out all the time.

  10. Can someone please tell me how the chandlers for "Its a Soy" candles get away with using only one wick for their 16oz and 24oz Cascade or Melting pot jars. I use the same jar and have tried every single wick and never had success with a full melt pool for 100% soy wax. I know someone else on this board who uses the same jar that test a lot and has to double wick. There is no way they can use a single wick in that jar without it tunneling.

I was to look up wholesalers for that jar and came across their site for the millionth time. I guess I always overlooked it. Now I say NOWAY! I'm not bashing just wanting to know what their miracle is.

  11. I use JS an MC and have always thought their FO's strong. I do know that MC, BCN and Candlewic have the same manufacturer for most of their scents out here in Mundelein Illinois. A lot of smaller suppliers crank up their prices I have noticed with exception of BCS that knocks up the price when they are a best seller. You can't compare grades because you really don't know and not all suppliers tell you. I remember ordering from Candlewitch and paid a fortune. When I received the order they scent me these crappy scents in dirty bottles. A week later they shut down. I can see why! They wanted premium prices for crap! That is why sampling is great. I make one candle out of it and if I don't like it I don't buy more!

  12. MillCreek

    Chocolate Kisses:yay:

I can hardly keep myself from eating it. Looks just like chocolate with adding a little red for tint and smells wonderful!

    I love it.

I have chocolate kisses. I just ordered JS special new scents sampler pack. A lot of V-day scents. I ordered a big bottle of the Razzle Dazzle Chocolate Raspberry Truffle. I made a scented bead sachet with that scent and put it in my Excursion. Its about 12 degrees here and that scent still throws like crazy without heat. Becky threw in a sample of Chocolate covered cherry. Throws very well in 415.

I love that name "horny" Scented. I think my goal is to give my scents unique fun names. I still have a lot of MC's Christmas Eve left and that has a very fruity smell. I could change that name.

  13. I didn't have any hempseed butter, so I just increased the shea. I won't use any nut oils because of that one small chance of allergies. But I couldn't figure out for the life of me what FO to use. So I finally just used Peak's Pink Sugar. My sister took it to work because she works for a vet specialty clinic and they wash their hands down to the bone. They all loved it especially the FO which I would have thought people would dislike. I even use it right when I get out of the shower and my skin is still wet. It seems to blend in without the greasy feeling.

  14. I just recieved her special sample pack from her new scents. Some of them would make great candles for my husbands cigar smoking room. Casablanca and Hanky Panky is one of them. The others are pretty strong oob I imagine they will make great candles. I will get right on them. The only one that doesn't smell so good in the bottle is Lemon Almond Torte. The Berry Lemonade is very delish, I ordered that one separate along with Razzle Dazzle Raspberry Truffle and Chocolate fudge brownie that do smell and throw well in 415. She then threw in two samples of Banana Taffy and Chocolate covered cherries. I imagine if you make a purchase over a certain amount thats when she throws in the samples. BCN thows in a free sniffy and Peaks a full sample if you make an ordered over $50.

  15. That was such a thoughtful way of doing that Erin. Thanks.

It was the one you buy at walmart. I cleared them out then went across town and cleared them out. They were .98 cents.

I have to wick it down. Forget Cottons. What about 1312's? I have a crap load of those. I also have CD 22's. I know, I know I should test them myself.

  16. Hey everyone,

I made a triple wick using the heart container a long time ago. Well I realized I still had all those heart containers and decided to test out the wicks I had set up in that jar. I used size 62 cotton wicks with GB415 and 1 oz per pound of FO, and they pooled perfectly. It took about 2 1/2 hours for a full melt pool. The only problem is they mushroomed. Everything else was great. Everytime I use those cottons they mushroom. Does anyone use the same size? Or have any suggestions what other size to try. I also use HTP's and CD's. Or if it isn't broke don't fix it. I just think mushrooms look low grade.

  17. Shopping the net today and came across this site. The products looked amazing, until I came across this: http://www.daybreaklavenderfarm.com/store/Lovelight-Body-Candle-pr-16668-c-358.html

Is it just me or is this an accident just waiting to happen? Three wicks in an 8 ounce tin? Pour the hot wax into your hand and rub on your body? Soy wax that doesn't emit any toxins into the air?

Am I crazy to think this or am I just overly cautious when it comes to making and selling candles?

I will have to agree with you that is a lot of flame. I think these people are just too lazy to test wicks, so the easiest thing to them was take what they had and triple wick.

Did you guys read underneath the comment "our properly wicked candles". Tell them to post on this board we will chew them up for breakfast.

  18. I have been using Kimberleys Body Butter recipe on my face. My skin is so dry from it. I just use Dr. Bronners because I have a lot of respect for Castille soap not his Jargan on the bottle. Its what we had before we manufactered all this detergent crap after WWII. I knew what I was doing by putting that stuff on my face and now I am paying the price. I don't know what is worse extremely oily skin or very dry skin that hurts when you smile. I guess I should never trust a product that says they donate proceeds from the product to prisoner rehabilitation. Do you think Dr. Bronners family has some skeletons in their closet?

  19. I was thinking about Love Spell. Is NG's pretty good? I just threw together a Lick Me All Over. I have a lot of people with Big Bath tubs and would love some pillars to go around them and it reminds me of a powder room or Bedroom fragrance. To me each room uses certain scents. I would never put Birthday Cake in the bathroom!
