Yes, it’s ironic. Burning a candle was a great way to get moms off the scent trail…but now that marijuana is legal, I have had several requests for weed candles?!

Any suggestions on who sells great cannabis fragrance oil?

    Thanks in advance!

Hey nice to meet you!! I’m in South Florida, but it’s always nice to connect with Floridians no matter where they are in the State!

I was pretty active on Craftserver….until the word “Coronavirus” was first introduced. I have multiple autoimmune diseases with Lupus being #1. I have totally fell off this site and even my FB sites that I’m Admin!

I hope to turn over a new leaf (no pun intended) and get back into my FO/wax addiction!

I know zero about MJ being legal here but being I suffer from chronic pain, I’m very interested.

BTW I do not make candles nor wax melts (long story) but I’m a fragranceaholic! Or a Scentaholic!!!

Could you DM me about this legalization please?!?  When you have time; no rush.

I’m not a Narc LOL. I’ve been connect with @Belinda for over a year now! She can attest to my not being a Fed working for ICE!!! LOL.

BTW hey @Belinda! Hope you are well!!

I am still DYING to find an oil or oils to make the Better Homes & Gardens “A Wonderful Winter!” Also ScentSationals just launched their new website and now they sell the some scents online only. However: they sell a 5-scent (10 clams in total) on the Walmart website and I hear they are to die for!!!!

Glad to be back!! Love this new Section for New Scents but that old AWW scent is my nemesis!!!!

Have you tried Bonfire from Brambleberry? It smells like smoke... Try it and maybe buy a big bottle if you like it because I think they might discontinue this next year..

It's a trend for BB to discontinue any FO that isn't selling or is polarizing and this FO definitely tick that box.

OMG I missed all these replies because I was pretty much offline for a few months due to illness. I’ve never heard of Brambleberry but will look it up now! Wait before I even look: do they ship in glass or plastic bottles? Since I’ve week sick.... actually 6 months were really bad, I sort of fell off the earth. I’m finally (knock wood) on my way back. I’m counting fever-free days (Lupus) and I need to stop fixating on it So....time to shop, spend, love, hate LOL, and I will put together over time reviews on all the oils I ordered last March—right before I got sick. I have about 20 I have yet to try. But this thread on Smoky Scents: is there a way I can “archive” it?

Basically I found this wonderful site/group/harem and at the same time (as you know, Belinda) I discovered the realization that I do better buying FO’s for my personal use (vs the gazillion clams of wax melts I blow through monthly and they’ve taken over my house!!

Scented Wax Melts are my true “baby.” Retail brands that I buy, test, hoard or, as I say each time a scent is a FAIL: “Hefty, Hefty, Cinch-Sak!!!” Yeah: I have no room to store scents I overbought and either dislike, can’t tolerate (headache-triggers), or, my final push to try FOs: This Lupus flareup seemed to affect my sense of smell as far as scents I felt threw 5/5 like beasts that took over my house....I can now barely smell. It was a conversation with one of my Retail Contacts that brought adding existing FOs to the existing wax melts. Keep in mind: the oils snd melts are sold by the manufacturer so they are dupe-ditty-dupes!! Best idea ever but they get $7.00 for .3 oz.!!!!  Point three; yes!!!!

Oh I logged on (finally) last week and saw JS is now an WSP acquisition. I pray they don’t switch to glass bottles. What I went thru to replace the glass WSP bottles with perfect blue plastic bottles with black turret caps...heaven!!! Then I redesigned the size/style/scent labels (nothing that’s not 100% in keeping their integrity) but I had to design for 16, 8, and 4 oz bottles. That’s about all I did in the past 6 months. Now: to transfer all the oils. I did about 10 of the 16oz and there was NO seepage. I didn’t think that would happen but it was, um, mentioned.

Please let me know if I can archiving this thread easily, or if I’ll have to manually make a PDF page by page and merge.

Thanks all!’ Hugs Belinda; we never got to chat! One day at a time.... no fever..... until I forget to count! 🥰❤️🥰

Thanks Belinda, but I'll just wait on my backorder. At least my family and I have Leaves candles to burn.  :)

Gee, I don't like floral scents either.  I hope you get to use FO's you actually like once in a while.

I do sell a lot of Honeysuckle, Lily of the Valley and Lilac, so I have customers who like florals too.  One asked about a Rose candle.  I got a sample from Aztec and I think one from CS once, but I just don't know if I could stand to make Rose candles.

I absolutely can not tolerated florals. They all make my headache worse. I have a chronic daily headache due to a medical condition. That said: I've learned to live with it so at times I'm not really focused on the pounding head. But if I test a floral Scent....even just 15 minutes in my wax melt warmer...I'm cooked. There's one and only one acception to the rule, but I can't technically call it a floral the way I reviewed, say, a Better Homes & Gardens (Walmart) "Daffodils & Daisies."  The worst scent note is patchouli. Headache and 🤢 both at once! The only exception to that, and I mean only, is Bridgewater Candle Co's. "Sweet Grace." To die for, as is their ""Afternoon Retreat." But I'd be way to afraid to spend money on a bottle of FO with the Bridgewater scent notes....I disagree with them LOL!!!

Do they do sample sales every now and then?  If so I'll try to cool my heels 'til the next one.  I'm finishing up so many bottles of FO this season both using them myself and in gifts, I'm going to be ripe for some purchases soon.

Edit:  It dawned on me to go look in our sales forum and of course they just had one.  🙄   Oh well, at least I know now.

Darbla, I'm fairly new here so laugh if you wish LOLOLOL What exactly is a "Sample Sale" and where do I find the Sales Forum....is it right in my face (as usual) or do I need to dig to find it? Thanks for any and all help; I need it 😻

  6. Thanks for the suggestions! I'm so new here that I wasn't even sure the question was appropriate to ask being is so specific. I appreciate the feedback and absolutely no negativity (sorry; I'm jaded by all the DramaRama out there; I run two FB groups and It's a constant at times).

Dreamer: I've tried JS Bonfire, but I totally forgot that I have a sample bottle of FB Woodsmoke. Thanks so much for offering the "Sniffie samples!" Can you define that, literally, so I understand and can offer the same in return please?

TallTayl: I've never heard of SweetCakes. That's my biggest deficit: I've really only bought from JS and FB. It's time to branch out and grow!

I'll keep you posted, and thank you again,

  7. Hey all,

I wish I had one of those "spin the arrow" board from those old-school board games.

Looking for the most realistic smoky note (which sort of excludes the Marshmallow blends but there's always the exception to add a nice, subtle smoky note to many of the fall/winter/seasonal scents.

Example: Just Scents "Freshest Balsam" is one of if not THE best "Christmas Tree" aka pine, fir, birch woodsy spruce scents. https://www.justscent.com/fresh-balsam-fragrance-oil.html

I had a sample of JS Bonfire https://www.justscent.com/bonfire-fragrance-oil.html which I added a few drops to and it was amazing. Yet....then I thought maybe it needed a smidgen of sweetness, but not a full-on Marshmallow Fluff burnt sugar suffocater.

Suggestions? Seems like suddenly many scents are out of stock, coming soon, etc....but I want it yesterday LOL

Also: Just Scent "Christmas Wish" sold out a few days now....any dupes? https://www.justscent.com/candlemaking-soap-supplies-christmas-wish-fragrance-oil.html

    Thanks,

    Karen

A friend of mine just suggested searching YouTube for videos on Adobe Dimension by a guy named Dansky. I tried to add a link and I got some form or error....and errors are not our friends. The vdieo she suggested (by Danksy) is titled "Adobe Dimension CC Tutorial | 3D Product Mockups for Beginners" and has 523,161 views as of now, dated Jan. 24, 2019. I will try to drop the link in a new post for fear of losing this post entirely into the Twilight Zone. I'm sure it's happened to all of us in one medium or another!!!  -Karen

The images for "ForStrangeWomen" are fantastic. As I keep repeating: I'm new to Craftserver and all these avenues involved in the Scented Stratosphere! I never even thought about the images...but then again I don't look at many seller/vendor shops. I would venture to guess that from the looks of ForStrangeWomen Etsy shop images, some hire Photographers to do all their shoots. t (I don't want to speak for them but wow: their imagery!) The quality is THAT good. Getting the contrast super sharp on engraved lettering even when zoomed in is not easy. I'm a Graphic Designer and there's no way I'd be up to that level of perfection using the balance, threshold, HDR toning, let alone filters...OH MY!!!

I could get lost in looking at the imagery and be glad It's an avenue I don't need/want to touch!

I tried it and it worked! I just used coarse sea salt and added a little fragrance and let it dry. It made my house smell really good.

Thanks for the thread on this.:smiley2:

I was told to use a teaspoon of coarse salt: didn't specify if it was sea salt, pink salt, Himalayan, etc. My friend who does this buys a bag of coarse salt in a little white cotton "bulk"-type bag with an elephant on it.......at Walmart in the baking aisle near the more ethnic seasonings. So she uses a measuring teaspoon of salt, (in the dish of an element-type wax melt warmer (the kind where the dish sits on a heating surface: NO LIGHT BULBS! She then adds oil (she got dropper caps for her FOs) and basically puts about 10-12 drops randomly over the salt. It's NOT saturated; doesn't need to be. Turn on warmer and OMG OMG OMG! It's amazing.

She used to use exclusively a water softener salt because she heard from them (who the heck is them?? She's not in this group!) that its very coarse grain with no additives and to be honest: I don't know why she changed to that Walmart Indian coarse salt. I think the throw was far better with the salt she'd used for well over a year. I'm obviously not at her house to sniff all the scents she uses but as a purely wax melt user, I am going to try the salt (link below) because it wowed me enough to want to try this!

Please add updates if you find this revived link and let's compare!!!! I am about to buy a bag of the following: in my opinion it blew away my wax melts -and- it's not a 25lb+ bag....and nothing is better than a referral (ME!) from someone who's experienced it. More $$$??? Yes. But I don't need 25lbs of anything except for white chocolate!

Oh one more thing: I was told that whatever salt you use, add 6 drops of Safflower oil *if* you're planning on using a wax melt warmer. It has an extremely high burn temp and supposedly helps extend the FO's throw while being basically cooked! My friend doesn't do this step

Salt link below. I have to run but I will do a wax melt warmer recommendation /review if anyone is curious. My experience is solely based on retail scented wax melts but between me and my Co-Admin...and her website https://www.waxmeltreviews.com/  we have tested more warmers (and wax melts!) than anyone knew existed!!!

  12. Well I'm glad I found this thread albeit 2 years too late LOL. I have been buying like crazy since May...just about when COVID-19 showed up and ruined any and all normalcy.

The craziest thing is that the very first (and only) scent I considered looking for a FO of (I don't make anything; purely a consumer off wax melts, 99% reial/1% vendor. I recently posted that I got very, very sick just as COVID hit (I have Lupus and a few other Auto Immune (AI) conditions. The stress from the pending onslaught of COVID sent my AIs, mainly the Lupus, reeling into a flare-up like never beore. My sense of smell, tolerability of certain scent notes, etc....went amuck. So, I set out to find one oil: a dupe for BBW "Sweater Weather" and would you believe that it lead to a FO-shopping addiction....all from "Just Scent"...EXCEPT FOR THEIR SWEATER WEATHER!!! To my Lupus-twisted nose, it smells nothing like the BBW candles. I now know that they BBW has a line of SW-scented body products and it's totally different from the candles so perhaps that's why I can't even tolerate the SW I bought from Just Scent...and unfortunately it was my first purchase and I went for the 16 ouncer!!! The only BBW Sweater Weather dupe I find to be spot on and a scent monster as well is the one from FragranceBuddy. That said: I have a few samples I bought from FB when I splurged on the pound of SW, and I still peruse their site....daily.

So what do I love from Just Scent: almost everything I've tried!!! There were/are a few duds, and because of the Lupus I should add that I use a lot of the FO's to "Amp up" the 1000 or so clamshells of retail-bought wax melts that I own! It's been a ton of fun making my own blends and loving almost all of them. I'm only in this since May but I highly recommend the Just Scent (so far):

Shampure Aveda (5 Stars on Scent and 5 Stars on the throw/intensity!... so I call it a 5/5)
    Peppermint Bark (5/5)
    GRINCH-MAS CRUNCH
    Satsuma (5/5)
    Clementine & Mint Leaves
    Bonfire
    Polar Express (5/5)
    Christmas Lane (5/5)
    CHRISTMAS IN CONNECTICUT
    APPLE BUTTER–Nana’s Old Fashioned (5/5)
CINNAMON AND SPICE (Explosion) OMG OMG OMG 5/5 !!
    POISON APPLE
    Aveda Rosemary Mint (5/5)
    Bye Bye Summer

Currently (darnit!) Bonfire is backordered, so I tried Marshmallows by the Fireside and it's like the BBW scents (I can't recall the names) that are smoky but have that sweet, sticky burn note which is clearly the marshmallow note. I can't tolerate the marshmallow note now (Lupus-nose!) but I used to adore it.

I'll post again later in the week as I have more to list but I can't grab them all right now. I'll list which were "meh" and which threw bettter than others...but were still great!

    CHARGE!!!!!!!!!

    Be safe; stay healthy!

       -Karen

  13. Hi All! Hope everyone is surviving 2020 as best as we possibly can.

Vybar....What the actual heck is it?

I've read all about it, how it evolved....I find more "types" and "forms" of Vybar the more I Google it, which leads to my next sentence:

I know 99% of everyone (including myself LOL) will think, "Just Google it!" and I have and I feel like I end up right back here!

I understand that it's *supposed* to extend the hot throw is candle making. I don't make candles.

You see: I make NOTHING! Some would debate that because my house looks like a wax melt factory; I hoard them.

I buy wax melts in bulk when I find scents I love and, more so, can tolerate. I buy newly-released retaill wax melts when I hear the rumor mills churning, even scents not in my genre! I like to know what's out there so when people in the wax melts groups discuss them. I've also reviewed some retail wax melts a retailer that sells via Walmart.

SO: why my interest in FO's, Vybar, etc? I have an array of autoimmune diseases with the main being Lupus. My sense of smell is like a two-year old stuck, forever, in the terrible. I literally hoard clams of a scent I love.....and then since a few weeks before COVID-19 hit, my Lupus raged into  HUGE flareup. I won't get into what that means other than that for the first time ever, some of my long-time retail (hoarded) scents either smelled way, way, way too weak, or way, way way too strong. Some I couldn't melt at all. I tried blending. and ended up finding myself tossing bags of full clams of wax melts.

Someone suggested getting the oils (if I could figure them out) for my faves, and make them throw longer and harder. That works like a miracle with the scents I figured out. Then I found that mixing/blending existing melts with oils was MUCH easier to test out and much more successful. I've even created my own "recipes" LOL. But still: I seems to smell them way less than others because when people come over I need to cut back to melting my wax melts "normally" LOL for lack of a better term.

So in summary: I have about 40 wax melt warmers, all types. I'm in the process of "dehoarding" some of the wax melts that I will NEVER get through. When I first discovered wax melts.....WOW...just TWO YEARS AGO!!!!....I was in Aldi, saw these candybar-looking things.....and the warmers.....bought TWO warmers and 2 of the four scents Aldi released (They always release 4 scents at a time and they used to be the "Triple Pours" which was like trying three scents for the price of one clam which were like $1.49/2.5 oz and they were the 12-cube type!). I went home, googled it...and the rest is history. The woman who did the review I happened to click on is now my "BFF" for real! We talk every week at least once, and recently had a 7.5 hour call followed by a 7 hour call!! We're co-admins of the two wax melt groups on FB (well: there was only one group back then....for RETAIL ONLY!!! LOL Wax Melts ONLY!!! No Candles, no vendor, etc....and it truly has been life-changing on my levels.  So all that said: I pose no competition to anyone in this great CraftServer Community.....I love, love wax is what it boils down to. I'm obsessed!!! But for my purposes thus far: I've joined to learn about FOs, and the seemingly completely unconventional use of buying them to "soup up new recipes" that I can smell, and tolerate (I forgot to mention that since the Lupus has flared up, certain scents are 100% intolerable as I suffer from wicked headaches 24/7/365......without adding scents to the mix.  I have a wealth of knowledge about wax melts: nearly every brand out there (retail) is in my home now LOL) so if anyone wants scent notes or my opinion of, say, "ABC's Brand of Blueberry Cheesecake" throwing better by adding "ZXY-scented FO", etc....feel free to message me or find me on FB. I don't know if I am permitted to loist the groups but the RETAIL ONLY wax Melt group is fairly easy to find! The 2nd group is very new, very "controversial" IMHO, and was started May 2020! It's for everything scented: Vendor, Candles, Sprays, oils, plugins, etc. Addmittedly: the last 8 weeks I was almost too sick to participate in life....but I started Chemo on Wednesday, Oct. 7th and I'me hoping that will be a "New beginning" date for me!!! So...what the heck is Vybar....LOLOLOL!!!!

Thanks to all for listening. I rambled and I'm stating that I did NOT proofread this before hitting enter!

    Stay safe! Healthy! Scented!

In my experience, this wax and all of the granulated tart waxes have dimples. Some are pouring cooler and getting smoother tops though. I usually ad some more paraffin to it to make it mostly paraffin and to smooth it out. My favorite right now is 4786 to add. It's a container wax but it's hard.

I wish I could help but it's Greek to me! Sorry!!

I did get a big order from a vendor I buy from regularly and I see many more bubble holes/pitting...and all the colors are at least twice as deep/dark as ever before. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. I need to get back to her but I've been M.I.A. for a few weeks...sick again. UGH!!!

Hi Karen! Glad you're feeling better and I'm sorry you were sick.

Maybe I can find some of it on Amazon or eBay and I'll order it if I do and see if anything comes to mind from the hundreds of bottles of Fo that I have!

Belinda: look what I found while trying to destash some of my wax melts that I really don’t care for! I thought that all I had left was one clam of this scent and the wasted chunked up candle (which was trashed today!).

If you forgot (I forget everything!) or anyone else is interested: Walmart’s “Better Homes & Gardens” line of wax melts AND candles in the same scents, read up. A few replies up I posted about the sneaky Walmart purchasers. The candles and the wax melts are not made by the same company!!

How do you want to present yourself? If you wife finds it yucky then that give you a good clue what customers might think. Present yourself in packaging the same way you might if going into a gift shop.

Straight to my opinion: I hate it. It's a mess! I end up having to unpack the boxes in the garage by dumping (carefully) everything into a big Hefty bag, because that stuff grows to like 5 times the size of the box it's stuffed into. Then I have one large bag of garbage that takes up 1/3 of the one supplied trash can my community supplies to residents. I'm sorry...but it's just an immediate, "OH NO..." (insert not so polite words) when I cut open a box and find shreds. :(

It seems that there must be a book out entitled, "Learn How To Make Candles in One Day" ... because I think that's a bit of what we're seeing.  I am one of those people who distrust Facebook, so I've never signed on, but I can imagine that it could become annoying to see too many people posting photos with "look what I just made" type of stuff and in the photo there is a candle with a huge wick, off-center, that's been cut with a pair of pinking shears.  I think this rant is funny, although I know it was born out of frustration, we've got to be able to laugh at this stuff.  Yes, we can try to help those who actually want help and are thankful for it, but I've seen where new crafters appear insulted by the help, so then there's that!

Along with the humor there is also some wise words. 🕯️ I don't like Facebook for many reasons and try to avoid it but I especially avoid any candle groups after hearing comments on here, LOL.

I hear you! And I'm guilty for some of the unintentional humor...I'm just new to CraftServers and when I read my posts the morning after I posted them, I sometimes have tears rolling down my cheeks from laughter!!! Laughter is the best medicine though, and having been seriously ill since March...I love the laughter!!! This is my first night back online. OH BOY....tomorrow will be fun, re-reading my un-proofread posts LOL!!!!

I've baked beads before that were wet and it didn't hurt them at all. If they don't soak up after a few days then add a few more beads and let them soak some more. A good ratio is 8 ounces of beads to 2 ounces of oil. Some oils like leather take a long time to soak up.

Belinda: we are (so far!) the most alike in our interests, liks, etc. So I'm counting on you to tell me all about these Aroma Beads Inquiring minds..... I've hear about using very course salt, gel-beds (pardon my lack of proper terminology: As you know I'm fairly new hear and this is my first time back on CraftServers since April. I've been so sick (I have a myriad of autoimmune diseases, Lupus being the one that took me down since before COVID really even hit! I missed all the lines outside the stores, the directional floor decals showing which way to walk in each aisle, etc. Tonight it for first night since the last week in March that I feel well enough to com online. I feel like I missed so much.

OH! I have more pictures regarding the BHG (Better Homes & Gardens) candles vs. wax melts..and more surprises about the wax melts we get at Walmart. !!! ❤️

I'd like some advice please. Ive been using the specific soy wax for tarts and melts (494) to make my wax melts. I've been using 0.75 lbs wax with 1 oz bottles of FO. I let it cool for 8 hours, then close the lid. Let it sit a week and then heat in wax warmer. Myself, and people I've let test for me have concluded that they have amazing cold throw, however when heated,n the smell is fantastic and strong., but only last a couple days (off during the day turn on in the evening) for approximately 4-6 hrs at a time per single cube. Then you can't really smell it anymore. Do you have any advice on what I may be doing wrong? As I'd like to start selling these. I'm mixing color at 185, then immediately adding the FO, and pouring at 160 as recommended. Or possibly does  a single cube only last so long with the scent?

I’d be dancing in the streets if I got more than one day 4-6 or even 8 hours!! I’ve never gotten throw on day two that warranted saving the melted cube pincer I pop it out. And I’ve tried so many different vendors (plus retail including the $$$ retail! Oh actually there is one brand I might get 2-4 hours on day two and they’re the Bridgewater Candles wax melts... and only two scents out of all of theirs.

I did a double take when I read your post!

Do you know if there's a Bath & Body Works scent that's similar to this one? Or maybe a Scentsy or Yankee scent that's similar?

Hi Belinda, and sorry for the delay. I was “dating my mattress” all day yesterday which translates to: I woke with a high fever and was in bed all day. Part of the Lupus flareup I’m experiencing. Today: feverless   Or as I say, “I’m normal today” because I’ve become insanely (and stupidly) superstitious) after so many years of this. Enough med talk but this is the first time I’m looking at the internet.

Unfortunately, I know of no scents anywhere where remotely similar to BHG “AWW” or A Wonderful Winter for latecomers.

Belinda: have you tried Fall/Winter 2019, and now returning for Fall/Winter the retail scent sold at Walmart under the ScentSationals (SS) label/brand called “Iridescent?”  It’s not at all a match to BHG AWW but it’s my second favorite (or maybe first...I vacillate) and they brought it back for Fall/Winter 2019 but it is a huge group favorite and we were all using Brickseek day and night to track it down. I lucked out and found a lot down here in Florida so that’s the scent I hoarded like a true hoarder. It’s back now, in Walmart (whenever I speak in the group you can assume it’s re:wax melts. It’s an unusual and wonderful winter (no pun intended!) scent. I’m trying to see if I can break it down and add other scent notes via FOs to get some form of the BHG AWW. Remember: the Iridescent is labeled under Walmart’s ScentSationals line but I know stuff about BHG, SS (sold at Walmart, AmbiEscents (at Bed, Bath, and Beyond), and I can give you more on this but I have to run to the pharmacy.

So, Belinda: try to get a clam or three of the SS ScentSationals at Walmart. I’m buying sample 1oz scents from all over and cooking up a storm! Just kidding. I’m brand new to FO but I have bought about 20 sample Winter/Christmas scents to try, especially if mint is a listen scent note.

I have to run but I don’t to LOL.
here the Iridescent link. The label design is lovely and one of my top favorites. Being a Graphic Designer, the labels retail and vendor even moreso, are a whole second addiction!
I’m not seeing the link yet; here’s a pic. You can try Brickseek or wait and I’ll find the link. The only think is that Walmart may not have the “new” links up.

Ugh I can’t upload the pic. I’m a newbie! Off to get my meds! Bbl or tomorrow !

The list is gone! It’s errors out. 😰

No: the link to all the abbreviations and what they stand for.

Two posts above someone asked about the abbreviations first (here's a copy):

"I don't know what all of the initials mean. Can y'all help me out and spell out your responses just for this short survey. Thanks.""

...And then someone else said, "Years ago when I started making candles, I had to rely on that abbreviation list a lot.  Plus I learned what FO, OOB, HT and CT meant.  :)"

I could have sworn the link was with that comment yet now I see the confusion I caused. SO I just opened a 2nd window (I'm on my Mac...not phone) and tried to find the dead link....and in looking for it I stumbled upon this topic. The other link was referred to a few times in different questions and it "404'd" every time. Let's see if this link works. It's not exactly a link to a file with all the abbreviations but there's quite a bunch here. Please, please tell me this workes!! I'm new here: please right this off as they say in the south: "Bless her heart....she's a blonde but that's not politically correct!" LOL
