  1. These are cd's. Haven't burned yet. Don't know how they will do.
  2. I've asked a few questions, but mostly browse. During the course of my browsing, I've noticed that the majority of people on this board are eager to help, only a select few make comments that appear IMO rude. And before I became interested in candles and started researching, I couldn't tell you what a pillar or votive was, definitely couldn't tell you the difference between a tart or a clamshell. I'm sure most people aren't born with the knowledge of candlemaking and had to learn from scratch, too. Maybe they just forgot what it's like to start out. This board has been very helpful, so it's easy to look past the few rude comments and look toward the positive ones. Although a few comments have raised my eyebrows and make me wonder what could've happened that caused that person to have such a bad day.
  3. I made 3 batches, using same amt of dye (3 drops) and FO (8%), wicks, containers - pics about 8 hours into curing. A is GW464 - heated to 185, added dye, then FO at 170, poured at 135. Heavy frosting, wet spots on smaller jar, hole at wick. Best cold throw of the 3. B is 70% J223 and 30% 402 - heated to 190, added dye and FO right away, and when I finished stirring, temp was 155 - poured into slightly warmed jars. No frost, no wet spots, pretty top and color. Moderate cold throw. C is 50/50 of J223 and 402 - heated to 195, added dye and FO right away, temp when finished stirring was 160 - poured into slightly warmed jars. No frost, some wet spots on small jar, pretty top and best color of all. Very mild cold throw. Here's my question - I would like a better cold throw with the paraffin blends - and of course I haven't tried burning them yet - do you think increasing the FO % will help increase or is there a better way? Like some other additive?
  4. and apparently Auto Owners will write product liab insurance to your homeowners only - my homeowners and auto is with state farm, not wanting to change yet. What commercial companies are you using for your product liability ins?
  5. What is the difference between J50 and J223? Are they both paraffin?
  6. Can anyone recommend a supplier that is fairly close to TN that carries both paraffin and soy wax? Also can anyone suggest a paraffin wax and soy wax (from same supplier) that they would recommend to test/play around with blending?
  7. What wicks are you using for the GW464? I've read that papercore wicks work best, especially to keep a great hot throw throughout the whole candle. Thanks
  8. and i know it's probably out there, but I can't seem to find it - What does WSP and C&S stand for and how do I get to their sites? Thanks
  9. Where is the best place to purchase glass jars, in terms of variety and cost.
  10. Aztec international is actually closer. Anyone know of any closer ones? Wouldn't happen to know of any in Nashville or surrounding area?
  11. What is the benefit of the cottonseed in the 125? Would you add beeswax to Kysoy125 for creamier tops too? Or just the pure? If you've used both of these two waxes, which do you prefer and why? Kycandlesupply is the closest distributor to me in Nashville (I believe anyway - if anyone knows another closer, please let me know), so I'm hoping I'll find something I like. I would like smoother tops, excellent hot/cold throws, and no or minimal frosting. Oh and great glass adhesion, and keep a good appearance. And consistent, too. I might be asking for a miracle. I thought I'd also try KY Perfect Blend - realize it wouldn't be all natural. Is KYsoy 125 all natural? Has anyone tried KY Perfect Blend? Where you impressed and why? I'm going to try all three, however would love to hear others experiences with these waxes. Thanks for your input! :grin2: :grin2:
  12. Has anyone on this site ever had someone file a claim against you due to your candle? What type of claim was it, did you have insurance, what happened?
  13. Its a Soy's containers, or the way they look. What is that effect called? Here's a link to their home page and it's the 3 containers shown. I don't think they look neon, but something different. Or am I just imagining things? http://www.naturalwaxcandle.com/
  14. New to candlemaking, just started couple months ago and really like it. This message board has been great. Currently I am making votives and container jars, using EL Millenium, but having problems with rough tops on the containers. Personally I like a smooth top, and I want a great fragrance. I've read about CB135 and GL 70/30 on this site. What is the difference? Which would you choose and why?
