Just curious. Haven't made a pillar yet but am keeping notes for when the time is right. Seems the majority, according to my notes, stress pouring the next layer before the previous layer has set up, i.e. thin film over wax which you can see moving around. And poking relief holes all the way to the bottom layer after the final pour to help bind the layers together. Seems to make sense.
Works for me LOL

For me it depends on how soon I pour the next layer whether I get jump lines.
-
I have never up the temp when doing layers, I just have to be diligent about when I pour each one otherwise I have gotten splits.
-
Mozzie, I pour each layer at 150 but I make sure that the layer has not set up completely before pouring the next. By that I mean that the wax will have formed a "skin" but will not be totally hard; if you move the mold, the wax underneath will jiggle. This way the wax will bind together; sometimes it breaks through the layer beneath, creating cool effects.
The only time that I pour the wax hotter is if the layer has set up completely, ie, the final pour or if I get interrupted. I don't poke my relief holes until all the layers are poured. You can pour the final pour as hot as you want as it won't show anyway.

Oh shoot!!!! I love my 1343!!!! I had a supplier do the same thing with their own formulations and the wax ended up not being consistent. OYE! Ok will have to trust and see I guess.

Dang, if I could just get you two guys together and do a Vulcan "mind meld" on you all, I could be the wax master for sure!
Continue please.... I always have liked a good tennis match.
Bruce
LOL I agree Bruce, and am actually loving this conversation. It's really interesting to finally understand the technical stuff that I often would blow a brain gasket if I thought too much about.

Have you tried the freezer method? From what I understand though beeswax is sometimes hard to get out of molds. Try maybe posting under the vege wax forum, some may know better there.
-
How many molds are you using?
-
I've often wondered myself since I tend to do the same candles. I think a long time ago there was a thread on CT about this question. It came down to yes charging more, say up to $2 a pillar more. Dont have any clue if that helps but yes you should charge more if its more labor intensive.

I have some of those tealight thingys and havent tried using them yet. Is the wax you use hurricane wax? I'm just curious if the tealight gets too hot around the wax and melts it at all.

Have both of those scents as a matter of fact. Cant remember where I got them.

How fun, gives me some ideas, thanks for posting.

I've never tried their wax, but I can say that their FO Juicy Bits of Orange was the *only* straight orange I ever tested that didn't have a fuel smell. It was wonderful. Their Root Beer was pretty good as well. Haven't looked at them in ages though to see if they still carry those.
Juicy Bits of Orange is a fav of mine as well. I have a friend that goes nuts over that scent.

Holy sheeeooootttt!!!!! Trish I need a job!!!

Oh I have a blast when I go to their warehouse. I get most of my molds and wicks from Genwax. That's about all that I really like from them.
-
I tried their waxes because they are so much cheaper for me being in Cali but to be honest I didnt like them and went back to 1343. Some much more consistent in my testing then the wax Genwax carries.

Ange as usual I'm totally inspired and amazed by your talent.
