  1. Actually that helps a lot. Thank you! At least that gives me a ball park idea on the wick for that container. I gather from how you're wicking that jar that it does need a fairly large wick and I'm not even close to the right size yet. LOL Thanks so much! I appreciate your help.

    Edited and added comment:

OK, I was just looking at wicks and if I use a comparable wick to what you are using I'd need an LX21 or LX22, a CD14 or CD16, or an HTP104. It is good to at least have an idea where I need to be and now I know I was a good ways off. Thanks again.

your welcome let me know how it works out for you.

  2. I posted this morning about the trouble I'm having with wicking this jar (16 oz Golden Harvest Mason Canning Jar - it has a small mouth). I use paraffin container wax (6006 or J223). I wouldn't ask this without doing a ton of testing first, but can anyone point me in the direction of wicking this silly jar? I've tried LX14, LX16, LX18, CD8, CD10, HTP83. Can you tell me if I'm even in the right ball park with the wicking? Or did I start out way to small? I can't get the melt pool to to the sides of the jar. I'd really appreciate your help. I don't expect to be spoon fed info, it's just that I have really tried and just am not getting it yet. Thank you in advance! :)

hi i use that same jar. but not that wax i use iga 4630 and wick with 62-52-18z and it works fine for me.

i know its not the same wax you are using but maybe my info might help you.

    good luck :laugh2::laugh2:

  3. I'm just starting to ge my feet wet in making conatiner candles. I've been ALL over the web looking and pricing glass jars. I know it basically hinges on personal taste. What are your opinions on how much wax the jar can hold and what is the best shape to work with?

I'm thinking of using IGI 4630, the guidelins say you don't need to used additives. but I was thinking of puting in Vybar 260 just to get that little extra scent throw!

    What do you'all think?

    Scott

hi i use the 4630 don't add any vybar this wax can hold 8% to 10% fo witch is very good.and the scent throw is very good .and if you are looking for some jars go to the local big lots and get some 8oz jelly jars they also have 16oz jars that you can use.or order from cierra candles in reno the shipping is cheap since you live in sac.

  4. Hi I was wonder where to buy the best scents. I have been using 3-4 oz per pound to get a good scent throw. Is there a website that sells scents above 6.25??? Thanks Lisa

wow why to much fo did you get these from e-bay?? try getting them from peaks or js , there is lots more places to get fo's from.and you will not have to use that much fo to make it smell good and strong. :P

  5. Hey everyone, I just found a great supplier for clamshells and thought I'd share. Go to http://www.flickeringflamesupplies.com/clamshells.html If you buy 144 they're only $.25 each. That's a great price. I've searched and searched for these clamshells and have found them but not at this price;. Just thought I'd pass this info along to my fellow chandlers! Have a great day!!:D

you should see if they do some kind of co-op on them?

  6. I remember reading somewhere... that some people shrink wrap their then bag them. i keep mine in a jar or plastic box , till i fill an order. other wise they get smeared some on bag. i use a parsoy blend. and i make the standard tart mold size, then put in ziplock bag.

i put mine in a plastic box also that i got from wall mart about the size of a shoe box the problem is i have like 25 of them gosh have to make room for them sometime.. lol then i just bag them up when order is ready to go.

    :D:P

  7. Is this what you add to your wax to keep you color from fading out when it is out in the elements? I have some electrics I made for myself....and I noticed that the color faded after being out on my tables and that for awhile...especially if they were close to a window. If this is what you use how much per pound do you use. I normally use soy but for these I used paraffin because of the melt point. Thanks!

    yes this helps the fading.

and for me i use 1/2 teaspoon to 1lb of wax and it works good, some use up to 1 teaspoon to 1 lb of wax.

  8. Same thing happened to me a couple of months ago. Never had to do a second pour with this wax before, then it happened. I had poured several candles on a Saturday only to find the next day that every last one of them had a sink hole around the wick! Much more than a heat gun could fix. I still don't know how that happened -- I didn't do anything differently when pouring them, it wasn't a new batch of wax --- it's a mystery. All I know is that it hasn't happened since then (knock on wood).

well i just notice the top slab of that case has a little dip in the center of that slab in the wax, and now the 2nd slab is all strait and even maybe i will not have to do a 2nd pour on the rest of the wax,

  9. I purchased my first batch from Lone Star Candle but Let it Shine is based in Washington and they offer discounts on purchases of 2 or more cases.

Here is there web site address

    www.letitshineusa.com

You have to call to get the discount for more then one case. Otherwise I find the Lonestar with there shipping is just a few pennies cheaper if you just want one case.

How is the 4630 for ht and ct on candles. I am open to whatever works just trying to make a good candle

for me 4630 i very good on ht and ct same here i get my wax from let it shine and just pick it up at the sac wharehouse

since i just live 35min away

  10. ok i poured over thousands of candles with this wax iga 4630 from same supplier, but this case is just getting to me because i am having to pour it twice

to get it even.the temp i pored at before was 175 % and it was perfect, now this case is a different story,i went all the way down to 160 %&165 %& 170 %and still cant get it to be one pour wax..and my candles do cool slowly and i do heat the jars to warm.and by the way these are 8oz jj

has this ever happen to anyone? :D:D:D

  11. i was wondering how long to cure a candle after making it to get the best ht from it. Can Anyone help

hi i don't use that one but i use a similar one , iga 4630 almost the same but i let mine cure for 2 to 3 days before i sell ..buy the way i see you are from orange county,do you buy wax here in ca and if so where do you get it from?

  13. Hey silver, I know how you feel. People can be really harsh on this board. You might do a search and find some other boards out there that won't bash you for asking questions. I lurke a lot on this board, and have learned a ton from reading all the posts, but I don't ask very many questions because I don't want to get land blasted by people who don't think I have done enough research. After all, I thought this it what these boards were for was to help each other out. Good Luck. Amy

can you tell me what other boards there is i would like to check them out?
