  1. I'm in Lafayette, 30 minutes east of Dalton and 30 minutes south of Chattanooga. Just far enough out in the country to escape the crowds.
  2. So is it common to have to wick up on cinnamons, mints, and spices?
  3. Goldie Mine is from Flaming Candle Moon The Apple Cider Donut is also from Flaming Candle
  4. That's a good problem to have! Right now, Christmas Hearth is getting more orders than anything but Apple Cider Donut is my favorite.
  5. Thanks Trap! That's a lot of awesome info! You live in some beautiful country over there. I had an aunt and uncle who lived in Blue Ridge for many years and I always enjoyed the drive and seeing the landscape.
  6. Thanks nj! I have found their prices to be very competitive as well. They're about an hour and a half from home so there are occasions I can leave the day job early and get down there to pick up, which I love.
  7. Wow, that's a lot of work and I hope the melts work if nothing else. It is a creamy, minty fragrance and I have a one up wick size I'll try in the event what I've used doesn't cut it. Thanks TT. Btw, is it common that a melt will work where a flame won't? Seems I'm reading more about this all the time and it could be a good use for oils that fail in my containers, although I haven't gotten into melts market yet.
  8. I have to say, making candles has given me a new satisfaction I haven't had in years.  The fact that my wife and I are doing it together just makes it that much better.  There is a certain de-stressing that occurs when making these that's akin to hot cup of coffee, listening to Jazz, and swinging on the front porch.  Or maybe it's related to prepping and slow smoking ribs on the smoker all day.  Whatever it is, it's good for me.

  9. Just standard 1oz to 1lb. Most of the buzz has been around the cold throw. I'm waiting for the two week cure before I test burn. Did you cure?
  10. I'm using a Christmas FO from FC called North Pole which is getting some attention so I'm thinking of giving it a different name of either White Chocolate Mint or Peppermint Bark. At least with White Choc. Mint it could be used for more than just one season. And the Apple Cider Donut? This stuff is not to be believed! lol
  11. Is anyone else currently using this supplier? I began with a Candlescience starter kit but have been using Flaming Candle out of Atlanta to restock with. Service has been great and they seem knowledgeable so I'm curious if anyone else can provide me with feedback on their FO's, wicks, etc.. I have had to go back to Candlescience for their Grapefruit/Mangosteen FO because people are shouting for it but that's all. Also, I have stayed with the Eco wicks and was wondering if there's any feedback on comparing these to say, the CD or HTP versions when it comes to the 3" tins and 444 wax. I'm still testing but I wanted to see if anyone has broad sense of success with any of these over others.
  12. How is your finished product and feedback with the GW444 based on the instructions you gave me?
  13. I would really like to keep my ratio simple at 6.25 to 1lb if possible but it sounds like I need to test every new fragrance/container/wick combination because even the rule of thumb is just a starting point or guideline. I guess that's the safe way to guarantee my quality.
  14. Thank you sir. I've just been told that I may not be using enough FO, as the 444 could handle more. More testing! Oh, and to let the candle cure for two weeks as opposed to one.
  15. Thanks Tayl! Well, we began our candle making just a week ago with the intent to sell. We've made several small batches of different fragrances and conducted a burn test with just one size for now and that's the 8oz tin. We took some samples into our respective day jobs and the response is incredible. Our first two batches have cured a week and one just doesn't seem to have the hot throw to match the cold so now I'm curious. I'm using the 444 wax, which I love, the rule of thumb 1oz FO to one pound of wax, heating to 185, adding and mixing FO for two minutes, cooling and pouring at 135, and using an Eco 12 wick. The tops are almost always smooth as silk and the cold throws are great. Is there something I could do differently to better enhance the hot throw? Possibly add FO at say 150 to decrease the chances of burning it off at 185? Use a hotter burning wick perhaps? As you can see, for someone who has only been in this for a week, I'm constantly searching to improve my product because I want happy customers. All help is greatly appreciated!!
