  1. Hello!! Okay, so I have been doing candle tests the last 6 weeks and have been using the status type jars from Dollar Tree- I'm not sure if they are legit or not but they are heavy with even bottoms- They say they are made in columbia and distributed from VA. I can't find ANYWHERE what the thickness of these jars are in comparison so status jars ordered from candle science or other sites. I purchased a case of 12 from Candle science today in order to compare. I'm concerned because I went to put a lid on my jar after a test burn and it just shattered on me out of nowhere. I know my wick wasn't too large because i was debating on wicking up in general and I have used even hotter wicks with this jar before. I had another one shatter on me when I accidentally hit it the wrong way with a metal object today as well!--- this is the first time this has ever happened ( and twice in one day) but i've been using these jars the entire time so i'm kind of dumbfounded. I obviously want to offer future customers a safe product and am concerned. EVEN if the status jars from CS are the same width as DT should I choose theirs because of their reliability? HELP!! I'm so tired of spending money on test jars that don't work LOL
  2. Can anyone offer insight on how to ship candles? They are about 6 inches or so tall and 10 inches in circumference. They are not very light. Flat rate would cost about 12 $ but I'm not sure if there is a cheaper way that would be better for my customers. Suggestions welcome !
  3. Do you prefer a certain company for your dyes?
  4. Hello! I'm going to attempt to dye my GW444 soy candles this time. I'm wondering what everyone has to say about using liquid dye vs the chips or the blocks? Are there brands that work best with this type of wax? Thanks!
  5. I'm having the same issue with my woodwicks. The burn pool is great and it's burning appropriately but it does have that brown yellow tint after burning where the melt pool was originally. Will my customers be accepting of this? I personally don't mind it so long as it burns evenly all the way down...and think that with a nice label, others/ customers would not be bothered by it either. Thoughts?
  6. I love that idea!!! Thanks so much <3
  7. Does anyone have good ideas of what to do with their test candles? I hate to waste all that FO and wax but I can't burn them all and I dont want them just sitting there LOL
  8. Hey there! So as far as selling your candles and running the business side of everything, is there a link to anything that can teach me or illustrate the best way to keep books for taxes and the ins and outs to how taxes/insurance works in this industry? Thanks!
  9. Thank you so much ! So how long do you think before I do my test burn ?? I was hoping a week would be enough...
  10. Hello there I have two questions today. 1. Does it matter if I cure my candles with or without a lid on? The containers I'm using don't come with a lid so I'm hoping they still cure well without a lid.. 2. Does my cure time effect how the wick responds? I'm trying to figure out which wick is best for my containers and wax currently ( beginning phases of candle making)-- & I'm wanting to do a test burn after like 48 hours to see which wick gives me the best burn pool. If I test burn in a couple of days from now, will my wick testing result still be accurate with a longer cure time? I hope those questions make sense! Thanks!
  11. Good idea - I'm waiting for the wicks to come in. Wish me luck !
  12. Birdcharm that's great information! Thanks for your insight! I'm going to try with my single CD wicks for my first test run but for my second I will definitely give it a try using the double wick method you mentioned. On the bright side- If this ends up being the case, it will give the candles a much more unique look and feel Thanks!
  13. So I know that you have to have the right wick in order to have an even burn along with other variables. Has anyone ever used square jars for creating a soy candle? So long as my wick has a hot enough burn for hte 3 inch diameter should I be in the clear? I'm using GW444 with fragrance oil from lonestar- I'm about to make my first batch and got square jars to use but I haven't seen people using square glass much for candle making so I'm concerned it's not a good idea? Also, I did a smaller tested in jars that I had at the house with some of my essential oils ( not a great throw, but I made a few mistakes)- Anyway, After burning, the soy looks rough and frosted.. Is this normal for soy wax?
