  1. Yes - I am commenting on my own post (nerd!)

I have ZZtop - La Grange playing on my iphone and watching that "baby" above dancing to it made me spit soda thru my nose it (the guitar solo is spot on)!!!  Guess I don't need to say - I am easily amused!

BTW - dropped by  parents house and Mom has 3 boxes of the canning wax you all mentioned.  She dug it out of the very back of the cabinet (looks like its been there for decades)  she insisted I take all of it.  She said she should probably get a fresh box if she ever decides to use it in chocolate candy again (Really Mom - you think!?!):D

I hope to test it out later today,  again, thanks for the help.

  2. Thank You all!!! :soapbabydance:

My Dad has alzheimer's and picking up pinecones is something I can do to keep him active and he feels productive...kinda gives him a sense that he is working on his landscaping again (he is no longer allowed near the weed killer!!);).   We might just make a few more dipped ones for the family and neighbors if i get the ratio figured out and the paraffin is not cost prohibitive...

  3. I would like to make some scented pine cones with leftover 464 wax.    I tried using straight 464 but it is too soft and the pine cones made a mess in the basket.    Can anyone recommend a harder wax I could blend with the 464?   I only plan on making a few of these so I don't want to spend a ton testing out new waxes...Please don't take offense to my wanting a shortcut!  I realize candle making is all about testing, testing, testing.   I enjoy the testing aspect of making candles but would prefer not to spend days and all my FO money on this side tangent.

As I am writing this, I wonder if it would be cheaper to just buy a small amount of a "hard" wax and not try to blend...but that still leaves me with leftover  464 wax from candle rejects...

Soooo...if you can give me any help, just off the top of your head, I would really appreciate it! :)

That to me brings in another equation when I am trying to measure what works and what doesn't when testing candles. Sorry, I have a difficult time picturing anything math equated in my mind. Makes it really hard to grasp somethings.

My brother has the same issues with math.  I made him several pouring sheets with the FOs and wax calculated per oz for  several different FO loads.  I would be happy to email them to you if you would like.

  5. Forgot to mention i use the borosilicate glass beaker, which has much greater heat resistance than Pyrex liquid measuring cups.

I use a presto pot and keep the beakers warm on a griddle.

  6. I'm a newbie on making wax melts also.  I had trouble keeping the wax warm and I wanted to make several different FOs.  I purchased some 250 ml glass beakers on Amazon and love how easy they are to use and clean.  Of course, someone is probably going to burst my bubble and tell me why I should not be using them...:)  So far they have worked well. I got 12 so i don't have to clean them immediately and i can quickly put  12 different FOs in wax.   Hope that helps!

I also tried pyrex glass measuring cups but they were too heavy for my hand and they didn't pour well.

  7. The only other shopping/spending obsession I've had is for shoes!!   I would periodically see my UPS guy on the golf course and he would yell "let me run to my truck, I'm sure there is a Zappos box in there for you."  Of course the one or two other women golfing would laugh in appreciation. I no longer work full time so my shoe needs (wants) have slowed significantly.

My Son calls my little FO sample bottles "candle crack"...

  8. I think I have finally joined the club (cult?):o  I met the mail-lady at her car this morning, in my pjs with major bed head, to get my box of FO samples.   It was just like Christmas morning!  I actually ordered a couple samples I already had - I always wondered how you guys could do that - well now I know!

Thanks to all of you enablers I have enjoyed reading your recommendations over the past year.

  9. I was getting confused so tried to compile everything. I couldn't figure out the formatting options for a table though so it is a bit run together. Hope this helps!

  10. I've been making scented solar salts for myself over the past year to test FO.   A friend wants me to make a few scents for her along with the candles I usually do.  I would like to give her refresher oil to reuse the salt in the future instead of new salt each time.  Can someone recommend the type of carrier oil I should use to mix with the FO to create the refresher oil.  Thanks for any suggestions.
