Belinda has also mentioned how much she likes JS coffee ice-cream . I will for sure have to try it out. Which wax do you use for your melts, if you don't mind

me asking. I'll understand if you'd rather not share :) Also, if you guys are looking for a ice tea + lemon /tea + lemon, WSP Ice tea twist is fantastic + really

lasts a good amount of days IMO :)

GW416 is what I normally use. However I've been mixing lp416 with KY recently because I made the mistake of ordering the LP416 thinking it was the same wax as GW416 and my tops were caving. Doing the blend has smoothed out my tops. I max scent at 10% on FO unless my oils are from CC. I also use coconut oil to maximize scent throw.

The plain coffee I got from ICS smells bitter to my nose OOB so maybe that's just the way they smell before wax. I've never put it in wax because of the bitter smell. I bought it to blend with something and just never did.

I'm like you, I don't care for florals at all. NG has one called chocolate orchid though that I love and it has a sort of floral smell to it but also chocolate which is probably why I like it LOL! I got a new floral from somewhere (can't remember off the top of my head right now) that had base notes of something else that I thought was very nice. It's still not my choice of what I want melting in my house. Pouring a straight floral usually gives me a headache anyway. I still do it though because I have some customers that want lavender and stuff like that. My biggest sellers have been leather and leather blends, YUK!!!! Texans and their leather LOL!

I like NG's oils too. There are very few of the many I have that were duds in my opinion and even then that could just be my nose. Some that I thought were duds got great reviews.

I'll have to try their Eucalyptus & Spearmint. That seems to be liked by quite a few in this area too. I don't really care for it. I'm a foodie person so give me a sugar cookie, banana nut bread or lemon pound cake scent any day!

I'm glad you've been happy with them. They're a good company and have really good prices on their oils. I love Peak's oils too but they are priced a little higher than most so I tend not to purchase from them as often as I do NG.

The best Lilac I have used to far is from Northstar, their ultra concentrated. Apricot I would have to say, JS - Apricot Freesia. JS's Apricot Freesia has the absolutely BeST scent throw and is true to form. I do melts, soy, and it was so strong it scented my whole house, downstairs. JS Starbucks coffee ice cream rocks! One of my sample testers said it lasted her 3 days on scent throw, but all of mine have been putting off at least 2 days on scent throw.  I plan on getting all of JS coffee scents this fall and doing a coffee line.

Yes it's in flat rock - I have been toying with making the drive to stock up wax but their website shows 415 as AAK waxes and then the initials GF415 where as CS it's golden brands GB.... I haven't used 416 but I think that's a golden brands wax also and the OP says it stated the initials LP 416 and on their website it's also under the AAK name

when I called she said it's the same wax as golden brands but they have another name as well.....seeing OP is having issues I may pass and stick with my source that's consistent

There is a Golden Brnad 415 and then there's a Golden Brand GW416. What I ordered was akosoy lp416, which I thought was the same exact wax because it said AAk on it which Goldne Brand also owns AAK. The Golden Brand GW416 is awesome wax, I love it! But this stuff, omg I'm loathing it big time. Definitely not the same wax, I could feel the difference when I got it and reached in the bag. I'll never make that mistake again, lol. While I've got the tops to improve, they still aren't smooth and it's driving me crazy. I've poured at different tips, increased my coconut oil a tad, just doesn't matter. Not a good wax for melts. But, the scent throw is good with it, so I'll make do for now. I am excited tho, to get the KY para on Tuesday, I've heard so many awesome reviews on it. My scents are throwing for 2-3 days so I guess I shouldn't complain. Lol.

I'm so mad at myself for ordering a different wax, but I honestly thought it was the same wax and tried to save a few bucks. Bet I won't do that again, lol. I had the gw down pat after a month of testing. I'll try a lower temp, I had been pouring at 150-160 with my gw416. I mixed it with my ProBlend 650 and it made a perfect top. After the fact, I've read others are having the same issue.

Per your advice, I dropped the temp down to 150 for the pour, better has a couple minor dips in some of them. I think I'm going to drop it down to 140-145 and see if that eliminates the problem completely. I also upped my coconut oil in the wax. Thanks so much for the help! Now, let's hope the wax is as good as the other with the throw! I ordered some KY Parasoy mix from Rustic, do you happen to know what percentage of paraffin they have in it? They don't specify on their page. I've heard a lot of great feedback on that wax. Some oils just need that paraffin boost' so I ordered some to try. Thanks again!

Ugh I hate that bodacious buy stuff. Yes, the pricing is great but having to buy a whole pound of something just to find out it's not going to work stinks.

I ordered a whole bunch of their oils, I'll let you know how they work out!

Well to me it looks like a pouring temperature thing.  If I pour too hot it will do that at times....then if too cool sometimes I will get the same thing.

Do a repour on the top or use a heat gun.  It doesn't look like any biggy....new wax you ordered needs testing.....like this.   I really don't think it is a major thing.

  7. I have been using GW416 and tried to save some money on shipping with a different company, so I order the akosoy LP416, which I was under the impression was the same wax. (Ordered from Southern Scentsations, aka great candle.com)  I've attached pics of my test batch with this wax. Not quite 24 hours out on the pour, cold throw is good, but the tops, omg the tops! I've never had this happen with a wax. Does this mean the wax is just crap wax and I've wasted my money? (Bought a 50lb box of it!) or do I need to blend with a parasoy blend wax like ProBlend 650 so I don't have a total loss? Or will a heat gun, if I get one, fix this problem? Have anyone ever used this wax for tarts? It's not the oils, t first I thought it was so I used a different oil from a different company and same thing. Can anyone give any suggestions on what to do? I just got crankin on getting my scents out and they've been awesome! Now this... It's totally disheartening. ?

I've been looking at a lot of JS oils and have a bunch in my cart.  There are mixed reviews with J.S.  but then that happens with just about every supplier.   I'm going to try them.   Never tried their salted caramel but I can tell you this....I only use Salted Caramel from Flaming and it is huge seller for me and very strong in 464 and I love this scent and I love it!  I order it about every other week.  Never tried SOS scents.  Good luck and let us know how you do with them.

I have tried many, many of JS scents and have been extremely pleased with almost all of them. Ones I've tried so far with excellent results: Senorita Margarita - awesomely strong and the best scent throw, cold and hot. Cotton candy - strong, I went only 6% with it, but next time I'm going to bump it up a bit. It is a strong one tho. Cactus and Sea Salt - went only 6% with it, perfect! Clean and Sexy - EVERYONE loves that one, male and female, only went 6%, needs bu,ped up to 8 for a better scent throw, unless you're working with a paraffin. Cold throw is thru the roof tho!. Pink Stiletto, Moscato Pink, Chardonay Wine - awesome and strong ones. Watermelon Lemonade - another strong one. Caribbean Salsa, went 8% and it sold out first day at my shops! Everyone love the caribbean Salsa, strong and awesome cold and hot throw. I use GW 416 100% Soy, altho from time to time if it's a scent I think may need a boost, I'll half and half with my ProBlend 650. If I'm going straight soy i always use 2-3 tsp of coconut oil, makes it less fragile and amplifies the scent throw. Hawaiian Cocoa Butter - another awesome and strong one. There's more I've tried from JS, but they are pure, true to form and definitely uncut oils, I definitely recommend JS.

  9. JS has Salted Caramel, I've come to love all of their scents thus far. I have been debating giving Maple Street a try, but now that i've read some of these great reviews, my doubt is gone and I'm going to place an order today with them. NG, are there scents strong and good ones?? And has anyone tried SOS scents? Are they worth the money?

  10. I am new to making my own scents and I just read the following on another site, "Did you weigh your FO and add it to the correct amount of MELTED wax? If you added 1 ounce of FO to 16 ounces (1 LB) of wax BEFORE it was melted, you have now added 1 ounce of FO to about 19 ounces of melted wax."

Is it normal protocol to judge your percentage of fo by the dry, unmelted weight? (ie. 16oz before melted) Or do you need to judge your percentage of fo based on the melted wax?? What would 16oz in 100% soy equal to in melted wax?? I think one of the reasons why some of my scents haven't been as strong as I'd like is because I'm judging fo percentage by the pre-melted weight. Am I doing this wrong?

  11. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it! In your opinion do you think they're strong enough that the 6% would suffice?  I never know if I should just bump a scent up to 10% right off the bat or not. I loathe getting new scents and only using the bare minimum of 6% only to feel disappointed. This forum helps tremendously on what to expect. With CC I only use a between 3-4% cuz of the strength.  Again, thanks for your help!

  12. HI from Kansas! I am new to making my own scents. I was wondering if anyone has used fo's from Texas Candle Supply? Also, is 464 better than 416? I am currently using 416, of which I love, however I'm curious if 464 will give a stronger and longer scent throw... any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
