  1. i used the recipe the e-bay gal posted...my 4 year old thought it was okay, my 12 year old said once was enough ...and i tried it...yuck! plus i really mixed it well, but ended up with little colored baking soda blobs stuck on the bottom of the tub...not fun to clean. but it does dissolve when you add salt and no problems with it going down the drain. i actually found it to be drying...i'm sticking to my other bath products.

I haven't tried any of the knock offs, only Jellybath, that didnt have any strange floaties or anything that didnt mix properly.

I bought it fora soak for myslef..it was pleasant for me.. but so are mud baths.. it really did hold the heat of the bath..

  2. I have used this before for my youngest son..( he wastes liquid shampoo) I myself prefer liquid shampoo, but he likes his shampoo soap.

    1lb M&P ( I use natural white)

    4.5 grams almond oil

    18 grams shea butter

    6 grams castor oil

    1oz beeswax

    1 1/2 oz cocoa butter

  3. Ew. I know they say its harmless but would you really want that stuff in your hooha?

It can't be any worse than my part-time job Jello wrestling. (Just kidding)

I can't help it, it's just one of those things that I'd try one time.

you should, its interesting. I will try anything once..I bought some for my hubbys homecoming from Iraq...he always claimed he would take a bath in jello with me.. I had fun with it:embarasse

  4. The bar my teens use i use clear base no added FO or color, I add colloidal oatmeal, roman chammomile hydrosol and neem.

They have also been using the oil cleansing method with great success.

Anything they wash with can only help cleanse and soothe and reduce some outbreaks, hormonal based acne is much harder to deal with. Proper cleasning is only part of this issue.

  5. I didn't add SAO, but added jojoba oil and glycerin per the recipe. I don't think I overwhipped it, since the person who provided the recipe said it can take a long time to whip it--up to an hour.

I didn't spend quite that amount of time--the cheapie mixer I'm using would probably catch on fire if I did. Maybe that could be part of the problem too.

It increased in volume as I mixed it, but it certainly wasn't fluffy. So far, it's holding its texture and what volume it has without collapsing or separating.

I dunno maybe its your base... I only whip mine about 10 minutes and its good to go..never an hour.

  6. I wanted to revive this old thread because I finally made my first batch of FBB and don't know what to think.

I got my FBB from Florida Soap Supplies. The recipe I found called for white sugar, but all I had available was demerara, so I used it.

I read somewhere that somebody said their's was like a mousse. My finished product looks more like a wet cookie dough. I tried some on my hands and think it feels great, but I'm definitely not impressed by the way it looks. I don't know if maybe I goofed it up by using larger sugar crystals, or if maybe my base was too old or something--it's almost a year old.

    Any thoughts or advice?

Did you add SAO? Did you whip it a long time? Overwhipping causes mine to fall everytime..

I use Stephensons base.. I add about 2 oz SAO per lb, I have used all types of sugar and used salt. I add suagr to the point of saturation.. then add more..

  7. I do pay attention to labels. But I think we may be in the minority here. Because going by folks I know and their purchasing habits, it would seem that the average person does not care as long as it looks, smells and feels nice.

This is a lot of people I know. Whenever they hear me griping about B&BW lotion and the cheap oils and waxes their stuff is full of... they don't care.. it smells great, looks great, and thats all they care about.

You cannot please everyone, you just have to aim for a majority or your own "market" and what they want.

  8. Did you leave/keep it in the shower?

I find they last longer if you remove it from the shower after use. The moisture in there keeps it soft and you go to use it and half the bar will melt away as soon as water hits it. Mine usually would last about one week, with sometimes as many as 4 users on the same bar..so at least 4 showers/baths a day.

I have found the "cold process" MP base last a bit longer though.

  9. Why? Because they are selling CP soap. It is a very common thing to see people bashing something in order to promote their own product. Not the right way to market, that's for sure, but it's still a very common way.

You said it. Its for self promotion.

I think a quality product can and does sell itself. You can capitialize on what makes your product unique or special.

I make all my B&B homemade, no bases. I do not bash people who use bases.. I do let people know it is not from a base.. but I do not go to the extent of bad mouthing. I myself, see no point or profit in that.

  10. I have not, up until this point, used a base of any kind. Nothing against those who do, I just like doing it all myself, thats part of the fun for me.

I do however, accept my limitations. I need to start carrying bath/shower gel. I would say 1/2 of my cutomers would prefer it to bar soap.

My question about bases is, are they "tinkerable"? Does anyone add anything besides fragrance to their bases?

If no, what bases have you found to be the best quality...there are soooo many out there.
