After searching RE was highly recommend by so many and lots of reviews and not 1 negative one as people loved it.
As far as CS goes it was very mixed reviewed and most people did not like.
So I'll get some from RE.
Thanks Trappeur
I should mention, I go down in percentage in any of my applications w this scent (melts, candles, room sprays, reed diffusers). I rarely make candles, but have made them in this scent for friends. I don't recall my formula off the top of my head but I can tell you in melts (parasoy), I do about 5.75-6% instead of my normal 6.5-7% for many fragrances. If I go much higher than 6% in RE Coffee House, it starts to smell fake to me. It's a pretty strong scent for me.

This is definitely strange and I would 100% not give them certain details and say your process and/or particular raw materials are proprietary.
In my day job, I work in the food industry as a co-manufacturer and some of our customers do request "open book pricing" where we do share our costs and profit margins but they are far and few between. We also have a customer who is a nut roasting company, so they make plain roasted almond/cashew/peanut butter, we process it with other flavors & ingredients and dispense it into retail jars for them. In that case, they give us the nut butters at no cost and we only charge them for the additional flavors, jar, labor, etc. I would say those instances could carry over into a candle business. In any case, these would all be established businesses whose business relationship together is clearly defined up front and no confusion, shadiness, etc.
You have worked very hard to perfect your craft and you shouldn't be bullied into giving away your trade secrets. Best of luck with this - I hope it works out however is best for you!

Agreed on Coffee House from RE or maybe Coffee from CS. Both smell different from each other and I sell both under different names in wax melt form, but the Coffee House does better for me as far as repeat orders go. (I only sell online, so people are initially buying off of description only).
-
Oh man, I love so many of their scents. Baked Apple HI type, Spiced Pumpkin Latte, Coffee House, Badedas (although I haven't been able to sell a lot of it - I need a good name for it), Golden Sands (I LOVE the scent, but the fo turned black-ish purple on me after about 6 months, very weird). Oak Barrel Cider is nice. Also Sparkling Pomegranate Prosecco.
I could probably go on and on!

In answer to your question about the emergency animal clinic Gail......well, when I got home last night after work about 5:30 I had a message from my neighbor that she had 1 of my cats called "Friendly" on her back porch in very bad shape, as she thought he was paralyzed. He evidently crawled into her driveway and she found him uncontrollably breathing very heavy and couldn't move from the head down. Her and her hubby picked him up, ran up to my shack and got one of my cat carriers of which they made a little bed out of it for him. They said he couldn't move. When I got there, I bent down and started talking and mothering him. By a miracle she said, he got up and tried to walk, but he couldn't stand but kept falling over and crying. I picked him up and he was just purring a mile a minute but I rushed him down the mountain to the 24 hour emergency clinic. They gave him every test that was available and all was negative, no feline leuk, fiv....a test for antifreeze maybe and that negative also. It was neurological said the vet as my neighbor did also as she is a nurse. No broken bones, nothing....Next step would be to go to a neurologist at the Tennessee or Georgia Universities which would have cost thousands. So here I am at the clinic for 10 hours desperate for a positive some kind of result and they have nothing. And as usual, always scraping the barrel as far as funds go so they said they would try for care credit if I wanted to...so I did and got approved for 2,500.00....I couldn't believe that so they finished the testings. I asked about if it could maybe be with the symptons rabies....and that was a possibility yes.....but the vet said cats are so different and there are so many neurological things that could be happening and not just rabies. Someone could have hit him.... He said maybe if I wanted he would euthanize "Friendly" and send his head off to be examined! I thought with this bedside manner of his of what he just said I would die. As I'm sitting there holding "Friendly" in my arms, here is this cat looking up at me purring so loudly and hugging my neck and I want to euthanize him? Are you kidding me? Look at this cat....surely there must be something that could be done....??? I said what if it is something else which could very well possibly be? So he gave him fluids and a shot of an antibiotic that would last 2 weeks and I could take him home. But the only way I could take him home is if I quarantine him for 4 months and they didn't even want me to touch him at all for that length of time....ugh............So almost 600.00 later I and Friendly drive home and I set him in the basement, opened up his cage and he very wobbly walks out crying to me. He ate 2 whole cans of wet cat food and just starts talking to me so this goes on for hours with me being with him and then I passed out for a few hours, went downstairs about 9:00 and devestation clicks on and his system is shutting down (you don't want to see something like this as it is so horrible) and he passes away....I actually thought with him eating so much food and purring and talking to me, was a positive thing going on....Now I have to go and bury him with my beloved horse Timmy, my dog Bonnie, another little cat I named Hope down at the shack looking out over the pond who all just recently died. "Friendly" was a feral cat who showed up at my little shack a few years back and of course me, the animal lover I am could never turn any animal away and started to feed him and another feral who became best buds and they waited every day for me to come and spend time with them and feed them. We bonded so well as I usually do and he was the most loving feral and a huge one at that too....I don't think he was that feral to be quite honest. Undoubtedly another animal who got left off the side of the road by some disgusting person and now they went looking for their new forever home which they found in me. Rest in peace Little Friendly...you are so missed....
And on top of that I have another cat named Oreo who some assh......le used her for a shooting practice evidently. I took her to the vet and they did xrays and she has probably 10 areas in her that is loaded with schrapnel and she is a mess but a loving girl. Long story short, she gave birth to 1 kitten in the condition she is in. Now a couple weeks ago my same neighbor who just rescued Friendly for me, calls me to tell me there are a couple kittens somebody threw off onto the side of the road and these kittens were probably 2 weeks old and asked if I could help her get them out of the woods as they were crying frantically and that whole week we were having bad storms and bad flooding. Couldn't get the kittens. Next day she calls me and said 1 kitten was run over and is out in the road. I run down there and she got the other kitten of which was in very very bad shape, scared, drenched and nothing but a bag of bones. I brought the kitten home and Oreo actually took this kitten right over as if it were her own. Long story short I named the little kitten Annie (short for Orphan Annie) and the other kitten that is Oreo's actual baby Oakley. Got the names from Annie Oakley. So it is now a couple weeks since I have the orphaned kitten and she after going to the vet and needing certain medicines is now thriving and getting big and is having a great time growing up with her 1/2 sister and Oreo as horrible as it is to see her hobble around with all the shrapnel in her body just loves her 2 babies. And they really need homes as I have way too many animals...I don't know what God thought when he made me. I swear my heart just breaks anytime I hear or see an animal suffering.....I want to save them all but I just can't and I have no life....All I can do with all the rescues I have and the ones who just showed up is just give them the love, food and care they need. That makes me happy most. So that is my life aside from candles and I make all these dang candles just so I can feed my animals truth be told. If there is life after death and we come back and if I come back as a cat, I swear I hope I find someone just like me who will take care of me to the end.. Wow, such a long rant.....I'm tired.....
This is how Friendly greeted me every day as I pull in to the shack to feed him.
Trappeur
So sorry to hear that you've gone through this. I know it's of little comfort now, but Friendly had a great meal and a lot of love as he was at the end of his life and I'm positive he felt comforted by your care and compassion.

When I am planning an order of whatever FO's I need that are tried and true, I spend some time reading through descriptions and try to find scents that A) I think I'd like and B ) fill a void in my current rotation. Then I add some 1oz bottles of the ones I want to try. I'm a super small seller that tries to run a profitable side business, so I don't want a lot of money tied up in FO's that I'll never use. When I started several years ago, I wasted sooooo much money just buying dozens and dozens of FO's but now that I have my regular rotation and have a good handle on what I like and what my customers like, I find that I can be much pickier with my new potential scents and am also better at blending those I already have that are just sitting here.
-
Do you buy from Nature's Garden? I like their Hayride scent better than the others I've smelled, which have been almost perfumey to me. It's also different than Fresh Cut Grass too. It almost reminds me of the scent of freshly mown hay wafting through the air. Kind of sweet, kind of that dried grassy smell...I don't know how to describe it lol.

Hi I am just seeing this. I am pretty new. I make wax melts. Are you all saying that I can't sell Love Spell with the word type or inspired. I have to change the name completely? Then people won't know what it is. I see everyone online selling like that but I want to do the right thing.
You have to change the name and adding “type” does not save you in the event of a lawsuit.
The attorney for 2 companies just did a big sweep on Etsy. For about a week, there were zero listings for Frasier Fir Wax Melts / Candles and they’re slowly trickling back in. People are playing with fire when they keep using TM’d names bc Etsy will eventually just shut your shop down. Not to mention potentially being sued.

I found another thread that mentioned JS Grandma's Berry Griddlecakes being the same, but it was from 2006-2007 and JS now refers to it as Country Berry Hotcakes (not sure if it's been reformulated of anything in the meantime)
-
Are you referring to this thread?
Wait - disregard! I re-read and see that you said it is NOT Country Berry Hotcakes. UGH. Sorry.

It happens even with the most expensive and sought after candles on the retail shelves. I don't think anyone notices (aside from us!)
-
Good luck! I'm only about 2-3 years in and it's already become like an addiction. I think just the creative outlet of it all.

I wonder if they are really honest about that - they told me that I'm the only one being concerned about the latest soywax situation....
Yeah, not to be all conspiracy-theorist, it does seem weird that not a single one of their scents is impacted, when pretty much the largest manufacturer in the world has something like this happen.
Maple Street's comments are also suspect to me, because he claimed to have 4 suppliers and they've all duped each other's scents. That may be true, but we all know that there can and will be slight nuances between any duped scent. It seems unlikely to be spot-on for every single application their FOs are used in.

Hey guys! I contacted Candle Science this afternoon and was told that they will not be impacted by this fire as of now. If anything should impact then in the future they will notify by email and social media so that customers will know.
Good to know. I think I'm good on FO's for a while (doing my year-end inventory pretty much scared me straight! Lol). I have to look at everything again and maybe get some safety stock of my good sellers across all suppliers ....just in case. Luckily, I'm pretty low volume.
-
Well this is quite the list of impacted FO's from RE....They just posted this on facebook a while ago and I think also sent out an email. YIKES

Not on topic but since allergies were brought up... Does anyone know if soy candles can trigger soy allergies? I've often wondered if those sensitive to soy could handle them or breathe in any fumes/smoke/soot from a soy candle.
Yes, a very good friend of mine has allergic reactions to soy and rarely burns candles since so many have have some sort of blend. She was gifted what she thought was a paraffin candle and her skin got really itchy and dry eyes. She called the company and they confirmed they use a paraffin-soy blend in that candle.

It don't smell like burnt popcorn to you? I've had so many peeps want this scent.. especially this 1 lady who I think messages me several time a week asking about it. I've tried ICS.. and several others.. all I get is burnt popcorn
Have you tried RE Coffee House? I don't smell burnt popcorn with coffee scents but most smell completely fake to me. My best friend has been asking for coffee scents since day 1, so she's my go-to Coffee tester and CH is her favorite. She also likes CandleScience Coffee and Hazelnut Coffee. I've sent her a variety of NG (neither of us like them) and also SweetCakes (love the cappuccino scent but can't get a throw from it).
Coffee scents tend to smell super fake to me but if I stick to about 6.5% for Coffee House, it is perfect. Adding more brings out the fake smell. I use parasoy pillar wax for melts and I've used a blend of 6006-464 for candles. (Although I mostly make melts)

Thank you very much! I actually didn't have any goo gone and researched that WD-40 does the trick.
I gave it a shot and it worked extremelyyyy well at removing the permanent labels.
It was strong smelling but I'm letting them sit and the smell is dissipating.
I think I may try boiling/hot water bath-ing them to get the FO wax out.
Awesome! The goo gone has a strong smell too and it dissipates after a little while. I'm sure it works faster than overnight too, but I just like leaving it overnight and peeling the labels off in the morning. Good luck! I used this method a lot when I re-branded and needed to relabel a ton of melts. It was such a pain but I wanted to change the look of everything all at once.

I am making baskets for my family for Christmas full of my candles/melts/etc.
I was going to order plastic clamshell molds but I realized I had some already. Unfortunately, they have already been used. I popped out the wax and am left with 12 empty clamshell molds.
I'm wondering if I am able to reuse these?
If so, ANY AND ALL advice on how to get the smell out is highly appreciated.
A few of them also seem to have residual wax left in them.
Also, does anyone have any experience in removing permanent labels from these molds?
thank you all again!
Goo gone! I rip a square of paper towel, put Goo Gone on it and place the square of soaked paper towel over the label and let it sit over night. The label or any remnants should come right off no problem.
I don't color my wax and I use a pillar wax that pops right out, so I don't have good advice for getting the wax and scent out. :-(

Here's the ones I have used. I've made parasoy melts with them, so that's the experience I'm basing this on.
- Bonfire Bliss - It's alright - I don't understand all of the rave reviews. They may have changed it over the years, because it doesn't smell like a bonfire to me at all, or it may be my wax. I thought I loved it when I first smelled it but I think the rave reviews were swaying me lol. There's something about it that just seems overly synthetic to me.
- Cardamom Cedar Blossom - I like this scent, it's kind of fresh and spicy.
- Coffee House - I really like this one! Good coffee scent, good throw.
- Elderflower & Moss - haven't put this in wax yet, but OOB it smells really nice. It's on my list, pleasant spa-type scent to my nose.
- Fig & Cassis - I LOVE this. It smells very familiar to me and I can't put my finger on it. But it's one of my favorites, great throw and kind of a complex (or maybe just hard to describe) scent.
- Redwood - I really like this scent, but I wish it was a little more woodsy and less soapy. It may be the way it performs with my wax, but there's a definite soap feel I get when melting this and I did also have a customer leave that in a review as well. (Edit: not a literal soap feel, just what the scent makes me think of)

Good evening,
Has anyone found a successful replacement for Peaks Winter Wonderland? I am in need of about 8 oz and Keystone still has not stocked it. I figured I would try here before emailing my customers to say I am out.
Thanks,
Karen in MA
I'm sorry that I'm not familiar with the Peaks version but have you tried Flaming Candle? I have their version and I love it! Just not sure if it's supposed to be the same thing.
-
Just want to chime in and agree that NG has very reasonable shipping. It's too bad I'm not in love with a lot of their FOs. They're fine, I just like FC and RE more, with the exception of a good handful or two.

-
I don't really use 464 but I have seen comments here and there that the manufacturer is out of stock. I don't recall the reason given, but I saw a post maybe last week about it.
-
What are you making? I make melts with a parasoy wax and have had a LOT of duds with NG, including some listed above, but it could totally be my wax, or my sniffer. Different wax or different application can make a huge difference.
Some listed above that I also like are:
Apple Orchard
Christmas Cabin
Mrs. Claus Cookies
Pumpkin Crunch Cake
Spiced Cranberry
Not listed above that I like:
Bamboo & White Grapefruit
Brown Sugar Fig
Sun & Sand Type
Seaside Cotton
Tomato Leaf (I love it, but it doesn't sell well for me, full disclosure - kind of a niche scent for gardeners, imo)
