  1. I have been using Candlewicks CBL-141 blend. Well I order most of my other supplies from peak, but I have never tried the Peaks IGI-4625 Pillar blend. If you had to choose between the Candlewic CBL-141 and the Peaks IGI-4625 which would you prefer? It would be nice to get a point of view from someone who has tried both.
  2. I am outta ideas, I have been trying to figure out why my votives are not turning out. Everytime I pour I get the sinking in the middle, then I repour to the meniscus and then they sink more, then it makes it impossible to pour again. I am using CBL 141 and I have poured temps from 175 to 200, and have waited for them to completely cool b4 I repour, but no dice, they still sink. I am at wits end, and feel like my collection is not complete without them. any Ideas?
  3. Candlewic offers a 2 part U.V. mix, Part (A) 8oz=16.64 Part ( 8oz=16.64 and you have to mix = parts of both @ a grand total of $33.28, and Peak offers a U.V. mix 16oz for 19.90 My question is, has anyone used these, because this is quite a price difference. Is the Quality of Peaks any good? considering its almost 14$ cheaper?
  4. Im not sure what you mean by cooled wax, Because the rest of my wax is in my pesto pot waiting for the repour so there is not any cooled wax. or im not following you? I dont mean to be dumb
  5. Well i have the candlewic crystalizing palm blend and it hasnt shrunk any but it dose dry fast. how soon should i do the repour?
  6. confused on when to do my repoures, I am getting mixed messages on when or if I need to do a repour on my crystalizing palm wax. And also when would I repour on my CBL141
  7. Is their a need to poke hloes in crystalizing palm wax?
  8. I am using candlewic cbl 141 blend. I am pouring at 175 in a metal mold, and I keep getting pin holes all over my candle, and Im also pre-heating my mold. Any suggestions? Are plastic molds better to work with to avoid this problem?
  9. I am wanting to purchase a U.V. additive and Candlewic has 2 kinds a U.V. 531 and a U.V. 5411 what would be the ideal one for Pillars / votives and the crystal palm wax??
  10. I am in the beggenings of candle craft, and I have tried color blocks, and never tried liquid colors. I tried to make marbled pillars with color blocks, and what I did was melt the color block on the side and tried to add it to the cooling wax, but it didnt mix well with the wax. I Guess what Im trying to find out is what is the ratio of people who use Liquid and Block colors, and why? I cant say I prefer one over the other because I havent tried liquid yet, but I know that Im not fond of block coloring. Thanks for any input.
  11. How do you get it to layer like that?? I am at my wits end trying to layer
  12. That was the best presentation ever. It would be so awsome if more experienced candle makers would share their talent like this so beginners like me could have more fun making candles. Your slide show was great
  13. I poured my first layer a light blue at 175 degree in a heated aluminum mold, I poured 1/2 of a 3" x 4 1/2". I waited till it formed a layer and I poked relief holes. I poured the second layer a darker shade of blue at 185 degree. Well there was a horizontal line where the second layer starts and there where many white horizontal lines on the second layer. If my son brings his digital camera over within the hour I will post a pic. Did I not pour the second layer hot enough? I really wanna make some nice layered pillars, anyone know of any good sites that may have some good suggestions?
  14. Thanks for all the suggestions, I just put the finishing touches on my wax Melter, and poured a perfect pillar today with no dimples or air bubles.
  15. I have had a really hard time finding the fittings that are listed for this. I have found some that are the sizes that are listed but they have flared ends , but now im having trouble finding a 19/32 drill bit, and not to sound stupid, but isn't that a large drill bit for the job? I was wondering what other people have done with the presto pot to get a spigot on.
  16. Well, I posted an issue the other day about dimples in my finished pillar. Well I remelted the candle, and poured at a lower temp 170, instead of 185, and I didnt heat my mold. Well I didnt get any dimples in my finish but I got lots of very small air bubles throught the candle. I poured slow, and poked relief holes. Any suggestions on what could have went wrong? Sorry I wish I had a cam to post a pic:undecided
  17. I am using candlewics 141mp blend in a aluminum mold, and I get these very small dimples on the surface of my candle. you have to be looking for imperfections to see them but its something that I would like to eliminate. I am bringing the wax to 200F and pouring at 175-185, and poking relief holes. Any sugestions.
