  1. I just found out/heard that the container palm I'd been using is just plain stearic acid... The CP from Calwax. Could that be so?

I knew I could also make pillars with it...

I think I'm just stumped knowing now that I've been using something so simple, or what people would consider an additive.

What do you think they add to other container palms to make it different, a "better" blend? Do you get what I'm asking? Would I be better off exploring, say IGI's palm container, or what CS calls Glass Glow, or just stick with what I've been doing? My people like it, and I get good throw with the right oils and wicks.

Am I missing something? If I had a blank slate, would it be worth retesting everything? Would I find better burn properties with a more "complex" blend?

  2. Yes, you're right. They do have great waxes. And were nice enough to work with a little guy like me to get me started. I'm sure financially they were more interested in private label contracts...

I understand little price hikes, but doubling? I don't want to do that. I value my customers too much, and wouldn't want to have to pass that big of an expense hike on to them.

Anyway, It'll be nice to have my wax come to my door now...

I also spoke with Pete at Swans, who recently opened in CA, and he was very helpful too. So I have some affordable options! Options are good.

  3. I've been using the container palm from Calwax. I decided to try the IGI palm from Let it Shine. They have a warehouse in CA, and can ship to me cheaper than going to pick up from Calwax now.. Hopefully it compares and burns and throws the same. Not looking forward to the testing all over again. :tongue2:

Anyone else use the IGI 2322? That is the same exact wax as CS glass glow, right?

  4. OHHHH! Perfect timing. I was trying to figure out who makes those trimmers. I have a trimmer like that and was wanting to get more.. I'm interested.

There used to be someone who could add your business name to trimmers just like that. Between the scroll design. Does anyone know anything about this? I'm wondering if they're still in business... custom made wick trimmers...

  5. I'm with Stella, thinking it's not the wicks that are causing the mushrooming. I use a different wax and am delighted that the RRDs haven't had one bit of mushrooming. I'm thinking it might be your wax... Just a thought. I played with the naturewax for a while, and remember having issues with the mushrooms as well. That's probably not what you were wanting to hear, and I don't know how helpful it is without making a recommendation...

Out of curiosity, I'm going to be comparing my RRDs with the CSN from Candlescience. Have you tried those yet? They're formulated for palm and natural waxes.

  6. Thanks everyone for the input! I've been happy with the RRDs, but why not mix it up a bit, huh! It'll satisfy my curiosity to compare. I've never ordered from CS before, and will give them a try. Thanks for checking on the quality issue. And I think I'll throw in some Lovespell with my order for Valentines Day...

  7. Does anyone have any experience with Calwax's Crystal Brite Container wax?How it throws, how much FO it really holds... compared to other container blends? It says it's especially good for container candles because of its low shrinkage. Just wondering about it. I'm using wax from S&P now, and like it. But just discovered Calwax's and I could pick it up locally... Wondering if it's worth all the testing to switch...

    Would love advice, input. Thanks!
