  1. Candle Man I had the same problem you with the chunks coming out of the bottom of the votive when wick pin was removed. I found it almost impossible to "unglue" the wick pin, so decided to go ahead and try putting the votives with the wick pin intact in the fridge for maybe 20-30 min. When I took them out I gave the pointy end of the wick pin a push on my countertop {covered with two pieces of cardboard} and it came out cleanly! :D

  2. alhughes, the presto pot heats up so much that even if wax was left in the pouring spout area it will melt once you heat it up again. My handle gets so hot that I have to wear kitchen mitts to turn it on and off.

Oh just one more thing...my presto pot is several years old and just about a week ago, the green putty that was holding the spout in place came loose and it started to drip around the green stuff. Thought I would have to get a new presto pot, but my bf had this goop that he said should hold it. It's supposed to be strong enough to glue an engine block together or something like that...sorry am not at all familiar with that stuff. Don't know the name of the glue he used but it was black and gooey. Dried in about a couple of hours. It works like a charm and looks even better than the green putty like stuff. If you're interested, I'll ask him what it is. Good luck!

  3. I have two very tall...13 inches tall by 3 inches wide plexiglass molds. I just thought they were rather cool and wanted to make some huge candles! What I'm finding out though, is that it is difficult to demold the candles. Usually my palm wax pillars slide right out unless I overpour on the repours. However, I've noticed that my paraffin candles do the same! I am using candlewic's pillar/votive blend. It too usually slides right out of the molds. Do these molds need to be "broken in" or should I just get some mold release? TIA

  4. I know this is kind of a silly question, but those of you who use presto pots to melt your wax, do you keep the lid on while doing so? I'm asking because I know it's quite detrimental to the wax if water gets into it. I have always kept my lid on, but notice there is a moisture build up on the inner part of the lid. What do you all think?

  5. Thanks Sheila for the reply. Will the tape hold even where the wick is at? That seems to be the worst part for leaking. I have my seahorse mold set up and have put some putty around the wick part, but once you do that, then it's hard to get the mold into that stand they supply. Hmm, maybe I could just use sand or some other medium to prop my mold up. Guess I answered my own question! :D

  6. Hi all! Tonight I poured up a candle in one of those two sided plastic molds. Despite following directions and trying to have a tight seal, it still leaked and did so pretty badly. I ended up stopping the leak by putting the candle in a cold water bath, but it was a 'hurry up' type of situation and so I know the candle will come out weird looking. Has anybody else used these molds? They are so cute, but the leaking is pretty bad! Anybody have any suggestions? TIA

  7. You know, I do that too. Even though I make soap and stuff, plus the candles, I am always interested in other folks stuff. In some ways I like to compare my stuff to theirs, or sometimes I just fall in love with a certain scent and have to have it! :grin2: I have to admit I ordered one of those wooden wick candles also, as I was just intrigued by the concept. It burns ok, but not all that well. I do love the scent on it...sangria. I think it's fun to do that, but I'm weird!

  8. Candlemom, be careful. I, like yourself thought that HTP 126 was a "smaller" wick, but if you read through some of the most recent posts, it was stated that the sizes of HTPs go like this: 105, 1212, 1312, and then 126. I'm sorry I can't recall who wrote this, but they said that the 126 has a hotter burn. Good luck!

  9. Yes that is what I got when I ordered my palm waxes...that vybar 343. For my very first palm pillars I just used the wax as is and added 1 oz. of FO per pound. The pillars turned out well for me, but didn't burn well because I didn't have the right wicks. Ok, so now they are burning well, but I'd love to be able to add just a bit more FO. Sometimes I feel like I just can't leave well enough alone! I have used the palm 2 which I believe is the crystalizing wax from candlewic, now hopefully this weekend, I'm going to try the feathering wax...the palm 3. I just can't get over how pretty these candles look to me! I'm going to get this whole thing right if it kills me, lol. Hmm, death by wax! Wish me luck!

  10. I am so thrilled with my palm wax pillars. I think they are drop dead gorgeous candles! I have been test burning them and I am getting a good melt pool and a thin shell when burning. However, I am planning on adding vybar for palm wax so that I can increase the amount of fo I put in. I am sure I will have to wick up, right? I know that you need to test for all scents and other changes, but I make them only for my own personal use. The wicking that is working for me right now...htp 1212 and /or RDD 47...will probably no longer be adequate once I add the vybar and more scent, right? I need to order more wicking, and was wondering should I go up a size or two on these?

  11. Thanks all for the replies, but I guess I should have been more specific. I am really looking for spools of htp 1312 or 126. I would love to be able to buy all my wicking this way. Some places have some spools of wicking, but is there a place that sells all wicking on spools?

  12. Anybody know of a supplier that sells spools of wicking, and not just the pre-made, pre-tabbed wicks? I know of a few but they don't have some of the bigger sizes of htps I was searching for. My candle molds are anywhere form 6 inches tall to 13 inches tall. Anybody please?

  13. Just to add my newbies two cents worth...I am currently using palm wax from candlewic, but would eventually love to try the brand currently being talked about. My palm wax flies out of my molds too, however I am clumsy in my repours {pillars} and find when I overpour and some runs down the sides of the mold I have a bear of a time getting them out! As a matter of fact I have to use pliers to pull the candle out {wick pin} and even then it's awful. Oftentimes, gotta get DBF to use his muscle!

P.S. I love palm wax so much, I am thinking of using it exclusively!

  14. Try searching on ebay for candle molds, and you should come up with several suppliers that have them. I got one that is covered in roses and while I have to split the mold to get the candle out, the result was very pretty. This is a silicone mold. There is another candle place on ebay that sells tons of those two sided plastic molds.

  15. I'm no expert by any means, but I am learning about colors. One interesting thing I've found is that you can get some beautiful colors, something like sage green just by adding black. Maybe that would work for you? I've done it with the soaps I make, but no candles yet. Still I think the principle would be the same?
