  1. Thanks you guys. You are correct I did my math wrong on that FO when I cut down the recipe. I am using a thermometer and a good scale. Now I just need to start using a calculator!
  2. The lotion was not completely cool no. Was that my problem? I added the .15 ml of FO to a half batch. Maybe not enough FO ? It was about 20 oz of lotion or so. I just kept in tupperware.
  3. I made some lotion this weekend with a recipe that I found on these boards. The recipe got rave reviews from everybody and I agree it is awesome. The only problem is my scent is already fading. The recipe was 15.6 oz water 1.5 oz Steric 1.5 oz E-wax 7.5 oz Olive Oil 3 oz Avocado butter ( I used Shea) .3 oz FO .3 Liquid Par Optima (I used Germaben II) .15 oz Vit E .15 Dry Flo (I used Tapioca Starch) The recipe did not have directions so I read about how to make lotion on another site. I heated the water to 167 and held for 20 minutes. heated the oil, e-wax and steric, added the shea butter letting it melt, slowly added the water while using stick blender then finally the fragrance at the end after I emulsified everything. Did I do something wrong? Should I have added the fragrance while adding the water and emulsified it all together? Is it my scent? I used a scent that got really good reviews for all types of things lotions, CP Soap.
  4. OK thanks Candybee I'll do that.
  5. Well that's all really good to know. My batter was at thick trace before I poured it. I used the stick blender until I was pretty sure it was really mixed up since I was worried about it. I think by test it you mean use it? See if it acts like soap and does not irritate my skin?
  6. Candybee thank you! I finished making the soap on the hope that you guys would tell me its OK. The butters did melt in the lye and oil solution so I guess I'm OK. Whew. Such a newbie.
  7. I forgot to add my shea and Kokum Butters until just AFTER I added the lye I just started to mix the lye and oils when I realized. Then I quick added the butters. Do i have to throw it all away?
  8. Thanks Candybee. I'm going to try it this week.
  9. Thanks topofmurryhill. I certainly did not know that about fractionated coconut oil. I thought it was just "better" coconut oil I learn so much here.
  10. Write Stuff, thank you! I did not know that about fractionated coconut oil. My superfat was set to 6% . You said you use Almond Oil in 95% of your recipes which has me thinking it must be good stuff, but I'm not sure why?
  11. Hi, I'm new here and new at soaping. I found this forum a month ago and its been amazing the collective experience and knowledge on this forum! So hopefully some of you can help me by commenting on my first recipe before I actually make it. I've made several batches but this is my first recipe. I want one that feels rich and moisturizing but has good bubbles too. Is 7% too high on Castor Oil? Will 26% Coconut bother sensitive skin types? 45% Olive Oil 26% Coconut Oil (fractionated) 10% Avocado Oil 7 % Castor Oil 8 %Shea Butter 4 % Kokum Butter Oh and I have some powdered pigments I want to try: Teal Green chromium hydroxide , Neon Blue Aluminum Hydroxide and a lavender matte oxide. I think I'm supposed to mix the pigments with some of the oil in the recipe then use that pigment/oil mix to color all or part of the soap mix at trace? Thanks so much, Taccie
