  1. Good to know... but sorry they did that to you.

I wonder if they realize that with the people on this board, bad customer service review will affect their sales substantially, not just this one sale. Glad you posted it.

Hope it is resolved soon and without problems!

  2. I haven't heard one way or the other on this issue. However, my CPA is pretty darn good about keeping my up to snuff and he hasn't said that I need to collect tax from every person I sell to outside my home state. The bulk of my sales is outside my state and also sell quite a bit internationally.

Each state is different so I think you will have to look into what your state requires. However, for my state I charge sales tax for any sale that would be shipped within my state. Also, I must charge tax on shipping and handling as well. Most people hate having to pay the tax on S&H but it's the law. Anything outside my state and country, I've never collected sales tax. For some that's the beauty of purchasing on the internet. The buyer doesn't have to pay sales tax.

That is weird, do you pay tax on stamps at the post office? My understanding is that postage is a service, not an item that you are selling. If you go to the car dealership, they charge tax on the parts that you buy but not on the labor since it is a service.

My understanding is that sales tax is for items within the state that you are located. Out of state transactions are not eligible for state sales tax. Some states will incorporate out of state transactions in their income tax forms (I know that Idaho does this...where if I live in Idaho and purchase something online from out of state, they ask you to report and pay the sales tax to them).

But I guess your state is trying to get income from whatever they can! Doesn't seem right.

  3. Same with me. I work in a small factory in Galena, Kansas. Thought I'd sell a few jar candles for fun. Wrong. I am pouring candles around the clock. I tell everyone at work that I just come to work to take candle orders.

Nothing wrong with getting paid by someone else to take candle orders, right?:cool2:

I wish I could do that..I get a pretty decent hourly wage!

  4. Well, a plantain is not an herb, it is a banana. It is starcher and larger than the banana that you eat. Cubans and Puerto Ricans fry these bad boys up and boy are they yummy! (My mom is cuban so I grew up on them and now my DD and DH love them)

Do you use the peels (like in african black soap)? I don't know anything about making soap, but hope to try it out in later months...maybe when it is warmer outside. I love all the soaps here...you guys are my heros!:yay:

  5. That's awesome! I want a log cabin....

I would just love to have a basement. When I was a kid, we lived in New York and we had a great basement It would have been perfect for me for my candles and there would have still been plenty of room. When I lived in Idaho, I had an unfinished basement but it had plenty of lighting but it was pretty damn cold there. I spent a lot of time there when it got hot but hardly ever went down in winter. It would have cost me a fortune to heat it!

Ahh, I should talk DH into moving somewhere where they have basements!

  6. I should really try to get that Lemon Pucker the next time I order from Bittercreek...that combo of Lavender and Lemon sounds like it would be ab fab!!:yay:

I will have to try that combo out as well! I love both scents separately.

  7. Well, I got my Peaks container kit this past week so today I played with it.

I made 3 candles in the tins that I got in my kit. Those are in the bottom row. They are (left to right): warm apple pie, fresh linen and cinnamon.

The top row is some samples that I got. I used 2 small jelly jars (4 oz) and a half pint jar. Those are (left to right) pineapple (I think it came out a bit lighter than I wanted), love spell, and dewberry.

I had lots of fun! So did my DD, almost 16, who helped me!
