  1. Remember that all waxes are not created equal. My Clarus 3022 (70% soy/30% paraffin) is good to go on the next day but only gets better with time. I like the fact that the ct/ht is there without the extended cure time but if a week goes by before a sale; the candle is just that much better. Light fragrance oils rarely get better with extended cure time, unfortunately. So I pour 1 oz testers and for that very reason. HTH

What is a 1oz tester??? Does that mean you use 1oz of the FO and make a 12 oz candle to check the throw??????

  2. These chandler's are the BEST Flair! I hope you are doing well with your chandling now..the only thing I haven't seen mentioned..that is a personal prefferance of mine is to store your "set" (already cooled) candle's upside down...this way the fragrance oil will stay evenly disributed within the whole candle while curing. :)

    Happy Chandling!

WOW.... Thanks for the great suggestion.. I will do that as soon as I get home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. I don't currently make soap and don't think it's in my near future, but when I did, I could not wholesale a 4 oz bar for less than $2.50, even if I cut back on the expensive ingredients. The ingredients are expensive in soap, like lye, coconut oil, olive oil, palm oil, and a host of other potential ingredients to add specific attributes and benefits to your soap. And then there is shipping and that has become cost prohibitive.

So, the question is, why don't you learn to make soap too? I jumped into candlemaking without a second thought and it took me a year to make a decent candle. I waited and worried about soapmaking, but I had a really good product a few months in. Just decide what kind of soap you want to offer. While we can't teach you thru a message board, you can find books on it, we can help you tweak it. It's a process, more involved than making a candle, potentially more dangerous, but it's JUST A PROCESS. Jump in, my friend

I have the same thought process as you did when you started... I am just trying to focus on making a great candle right now. I have seen numerous videos on soap making and others as well that I really like but I am consumed right now with trying to make the best dog gone candle I can.  And that is a challenge..... :)  Hopefully the cost isn't prohibitive on the wholesale side...

  4. My customers buy everyone's wax! They still buy plenty of mine but one did post a pic of an entire aisle display of Fall candles from WM. They were $3.97. Pretty colors and a few people responded to her post (the Facebook wax world is a fascinating place-if you are going to sell, you should hop in. There is much to learn and see there!) that they got a few and they were good.

Since I sell nationwide, anyone else who makes and sells wax is someone to study.

    Is this the page?????    https://www.facebook.com/worldofwaxandsudz

  5. Went to wally world yesterday and they were selling 16oz candles(better home) for under $6... WOW... Got to be huge bulk rates when purchasing. I was thinking of buying one to see how it does, but NO!!!! Probably should have just to see the quality.  Just thought it was a crazy price!

  6. I am a newbie to the world of candle making but I am loving it.  When I launch my website and business I am going to want to offer soap as well.. That being said I am going to need someone to wholesale soap to me so I can offer it... If you are absolutely obsessed with making the BEST and SAFESt soaps please let me know if you would like to wholesale your soaps.

    Thanks

  7. Well now... You guys do know what you are doing!!!!!!  I just went back and lit the candle from Saturday and it is really filling the room with scent.... So I have learned a valuable lesson, soy takes some cure time.. I have a few others that I am going to wait at least until Saturday to lite, that will be 7 day. The cold throw is awesome now on those we made.  SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO thanks so much for the cure time on the soy... going forward I am looking at 10 days I think. What about a paraffin candle cure time??????

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR HELPING ME.....

  9. Oh no... I am a teacher and my wife works with me at the same school but as a teacher you have to supplement your income unfortunately.. When I say we are passionate about candles and the process of making them I am telling you the God's honest truth. We have been candle lovers FOR YEARS and YEARS.  We don't need to have money tomorrow from this... but sooner is better than later with regards to money, LOL. Would I like to be able to retire from my teaching job and work side-by-side with my wife making and selling candles, ABSOLUTELY and that is what we are shooting for. I am also retired military but our thing is we want to work together doing something we love, and that is candles.

  10. I asked this question on another thread on this site but wanted to post it here to see how many responses I could get.. I am a newbie and my question is am I fooling myself to think that a homemade, hand poured candle can equal the quality of Yankee or Gold Canyon???  Can a small candle maker make the scent throws that the big time guys do??? I am just trying to find out honest answers and opinions... Thanks!!
