  1. 4627 and 4630 are both container waxes. 4794 and 4625 are more suitable for votives and/or pillars. I have had success blending the two-a votive/pillar wax with a container wax for melts.

In all of my testing, testers selected my blends with 4627 container wax most. I am currently retesting and have my 2 blends (4625/4630 and 4625/4627) out with testers who are very experienced, heavy users. 4794 blended with 4627 makes a VERY nice melt. If you already have both, I'd give that blend a try.

For your 4627/4625 blend, is it 50/50?  And...Do you have an easy way of dealing with the 4627?  I'm practically in hazmat gear dealing with that stuff.

  2. Oh how I wish I hadn't stumbled onto this thread! I'd thought I had FINALLY settled on which wax I was going to use for my clamshells and it was KY para/soy tart wax! LOL!

I haven't done a lot of testing with it myself but what I've melted seems to be good so far and my customers seem to be happy with their clams. But like  Karen, I also use 4625 when I make melts in silicone molds. I've used 4794 also and like it too. They are both great waxes.

I will not try another wax blend, I will not try another wax blend, I will not try another wax blend,................yea right! LOL!

Good luck to you. It can be maddening for sure!

I am saying this chant right now with you!

  3.  Yes, that's me. :) Thank you! It seems weird to have someone drool over my shop when I have shops that I drool over too.  I've been in the biz for a few yrs and redesigned my labels a little over a year ago. I had wanted to do them like that when I first started but I was so excited about starting a new biz that I just made something generic.

I know it's so easy to compare yourself with other businesses. I do it all the time. I have several shops that I sort of stalk because I just do.  lol.  I price my items what they need to be priced.  There will always be someone who charges less and someone who charges more. Some people are in it just to cover their hobby expenses and some are in it for their only income and I'm sure other reasons as well.  If you have a great product, people will buy from you.  My sales are steady and getting steadier.   There's lots of competition for both of my shops (I also have a mineral makeup shop) and I get enough sales to pay the bills so I'm happy. :)  It's taken me awhile to get where I am, it's a lot of hard work but it's really paying off. I love it!

Yes, I'll be happy just to break even.  Good to know you're doing well with all soy, too.  Not that I'm anti-paraffin, or anything, it just took a lot of testing just to get the blend I have, which just happens to be all soy.  It seems like people poo-poo it for some reason, and the popular opinion seems to be that the throw is not as good, or long lasting with all soy.  I just can't imagine starting all over with testing!  Am I hi-jacking this thread? Sorry if I am.  It's so nice to talk to folks who know what they're doing.  Wish I'd found this forum months ago!

  4. What do you mean does it hold the scent in?

Uploading a pic to this new board is really frustrating. lol.  I hope it worked.

Ah, you are Suzy's on Etsy.  I have drooled over your adorable labels.  Honestly, that has been the biggest headache of all for me! I also struggle with pricing.  There are some very popular vendors who only charge 1.50 for a scent shot, and I wonder how they do it, and how in the heck I can compete with that, and still make any money!

  5. 50/50 4627/464 in an 8oz jelly jar, that has a 2.75 inch diameter.

I want to try the HTP wicks.  Candle Science's suggestions seem a little small, and they don't have a sample pack.  I have some 1212, but I know those are way too big.  Has anyone tried this combo before, know what size I should use?

    Thanks!

  6. I'm definitely going to cut back on FO, but is there another wick recommendation?  I am getting ZERO scent throw with this candle.

I also thought about cutting back on the 4627.  When I used all 464 with a CSN wick, I wasn't thrilled with the look/burn, but the throw was at least good.

I do have a CD sampler pack, I thought about trying one of those.

I am determined to get this eventually!

  7. I am using a 50/50 mix of GB 464 with IGI 4627.  (Gave up on all soy).  Apart from the 4627 being like a big blob of vaseline, I really like this combo.  Poured beautifully, nice burn, etc.

I decided to go for it, and put 2oz per lb of FO, which is the max for both of these waxes.

I'm using an ECO 10 wick, in an 8oz square mason jar,  which is working well, but around hour 3, the flame gets big, and it starts to soot.  I don't think I could go any smaller without tunneling.

So, my question is, should I seek out a different wick, or is it more likely that I've gone too gung-ho with the FO, and should cut back to the standard 1oz/lb?

I have some other wicks on hand, so I'd take wick suggestions, too.

    Thanks!
