:yes:Yeah, I guess now that the anger has subsided, it is pretty funny.

I'm so pissed!!! I bought this soy candle off the internet. It's from a company in Beverly Hills called Ooohlala. I read something about them and thought I might try their candles because they sounded nice. This is a picture of the candle that I got. It smells really nice so I'd like to try and burn it. Maybe I'll hit it with the heat gun to recenter the wick and see if that works. UGH, what a piece of crap. Well, the one good thing that came of this is that I feel better than ever about my own candles now.
-
When I do my year end inventory, I include everything that is sold to customers, like: wax, wicks, jars, warning labels, labels on the candles or bath & body products, dye, fragrance, wick tabs, wick glue, shrink wrap etc... If it goes into the final product, then I include it. I've done it that way for the last 3 years and my CPA has never complained.:smiley2:

You could try an Eco-4 or an HTP-62. I used to use the EcoSoya VB and that was pretty easy to wick. An Eco-2 and the 44-24-18-C worked well. I used a pillar blend before that and it was harder to wick. An HTP-62 and Eco-4 worked well with that. Then I got fed up with votives and stopped making them.
-
Ok, if it's an HTP 31 & 41, I'd go with the 2.4mm hole for all the wicks. I like to use the 20mm tabs. The 15mm are just too small for me and I don't like them. I think the 20mm are small enough and would work well in most containers.
-
I want to use a small wick tab base for my containers, but I want it to be able to hold several wick sizes -- CD31, CD41, CD8, and CD10.
Which of these two tabs do you think will work best for all these four sizes? My guess is the 2nd one, but I want to make sure before I order.
BASE NECK HOLE
15mm 3.8mm 2.4mm
15mm 3.8mm 3.0mm
Also --
What size of base is used for votives?
Thanks a bunch!
I would use the 2.4mmH for the CD 8 & 10. I didn't realize they made CD wicks past CD 22, but if they do then I guess the 3.0 would be the size to get. When I made votives, I used a 20mm 3.8mm 2.4mm. HTH

I've used glue dots from Candles & Supplies for years and have never had a problem with them moving around. No matter how hot I pour (the hottest probably being about 160/165), they always stay put and they're fairly easy to get off after. If you pull the wick tab with a pliers, the glue dot usually comes up with the tab.

Are you talking about Bitter Creek SOUTH??? BCS has some really good scents. I don't like the scents from BCN as much and they don't seem to sell too well for me either so I've stopped using them.

I don't think Bitter Creek ever sold C3, but I could be wrong.

Budge so I could use the saran wrap?
Hmmm, I don't know about saran wrap. That's different than the shrink wrap. I get shrink wrap at http://www.fetpak.com/whstore/main.pl/itl?192 The shrink wrap is pretty stiff compared to saran and is easier to work with because it doesn't stick to itself.

I usually wrap my tarts individually in shrink wrap.

I'm hoping someone can give me some advise. I've been testing the 700 wicks which I really like - and Wickman was so nice to send such a nice assortment:D I really want them to work for mre. However, I've tested amost every size recommended for the 3-4" container and am getting large mushrooms and lot's of hang-up on the sides - even with the 798. I'm pouring GW449 Soy Container Blend - container is 12.5 oz.Metro/Status Jar. Fragrance load is 9% and I've tested 4 differenct fragrances. These are good quality FO from French Fragrance but I've needed to go to 9% to get the throw that I'm happy with. No dyes.
I've burned all testers 3 times and still have hang up.
I've also tested the wicks for the 7.5 oz Metro/Status jar, no mushrooms, but still too much hang up. Same FO load, etc.
I've read that maybe the wax is too hard but yet I've also read that maybe the wax is too rich . I can live with the mushrooms but the hang up is a problem. Thanks for 'listening'. Linda
How long are you burning them? I used a 784 in a 3" diameter tumbler and I had no hang up at all. Of course, the wick was also way too big! I also used the GW444 for that jar, but I haven't noticed too big of a wick difference when wicking the 444 & 449.

Peak's Vanilla Hazelnut has an AWESOME scent throw in soy! It smells up my living room, dining room and kitchen. It's a very nice scent.

I know Candles & Supplies http://www.candlesandsupplies.com/ sells fragrance in 5 lbs and 25lb drums. They're reasonably priced. I used their FOs a long time ago, but they are too far away from me and I had problems with their customer service so I stopped ordering from them. But they do have pretty decent scents. I'm sure there are other companies out there, but they are the only company that I know of.

This is great wax. My fragrance throw @ 9 % wasn't quite as strong as I would like but 10% was very good. You're lucky that you achieved such good tops with the first try - took me 3 or 4 times . I'm very interested in knowing how your melt pool is and what type of wick you use. My wax pools are not to the edge of the glass. Jason suggested I ad a little pure Soy to the 449 to soften up a bit so that's my next experiment. I've been using ECO wicks.
By the way, what type of fragrance is JAMAICA ME CRAZY? SOUND LIKE A GOOD ONE.
santa big MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Hey ADSoy,
I burned the candle today just to see how the wick worked and if there were any hidden air bubbles in the wax. I'm using the Premier 700 wicks (not my normal wick, but am trying to find a better wick-so far I like these) The size was WI-785. Normally I use an Eco-12 in these jars with the CB-135. The melt pool got pretty close to the edge, but not all the way. I think it might pick up the edges when it burns farther down, but not sure. Oddly enough the top is no longer nice and smooth anymore. That's weird because I tried the 444 and I couldn't get a smooth top when I poured it, but after I burned it the tops would always be smooth. Not much of a scent throw yet, but it is only the day after I made it. I wonder if adding the pure soy will help with the scent throw so you don't have to use 10%? The Jamaica Me Crazy is a great scent. It's a fruity scent from Peak - this is the description: A refreshing blend of tempting tropical fruits with a twist of citrus and a hint of coconut.
-
Congratulations! I wish I had the nerve to stand up for myself like that. I'm glad it worked out for you.

I agree with Scented, I love Peak's Black Raspberry Vanilla and Fruit Slices.

I got a sample of this wax last week and made a candle with it last night. So far I LOVE this wax!! I made an 8oz Tumbler with 8% Jamaica Me Crazy and 1 Melon dye chip from Peak. I heated to 174*, added fragrance and poured at 160*. The tops came out perfectly smooth except for a slight crack by the wick (which was easily fixed with the heat gun) and there are no wet spots. The cold throw is not quite as strong as I would like it to be, but you can still smell it. I don't know about the hot throw as I have not burned it yet. This wax is so easy to work with! I can't wait to see how strong the scent is when it burns.
-
That does seem a little big. When I used to make soy votives, I used a 44-24-18 cotton. I suppose it could depend on the wax and the scent though.
-
I LOVE this scent!! I didn't even have this scent added to my line and someone smelled it and ordered 2 candles. I normally don't like pear scents but this one is great! It throws really good in soy too.

I love the Coconut Banana Blast! It smells great in soy. Unfortunately, only one customer shared my opinion and I had to drop it. I really like the Green Tea from Peak. It's got a great hot and cold throw in soy. I don't really know how to describe the scent, but it is nice.

This candle was $10.00 for a 6 oz tin. I guess I thought the price would get me a better candle than the cheap, dollar store ones. Shame on me.
Good idea about saving the pic and showing it to customers!
