  1. I have been wondering what happened to the 8oz jars at my Walmart.. I have been looking all week for them to restock. Mine go for 7$. I'd hate to order, I think it's cheaper to have them at stores!
  2. I do read the NG instructions which said to bring it up to 200 degrees then add color, then when it is 165 add FO and then pour - which I do! I don't know what am I doing wrong?? I did read alllll the past threads on joy wax tlc, that is why I am asking bc I can't figure it out. I got a heat gun and my dh freaked. He thinks I am going to burn the house down:embarasse Maybe the hot throw will be better than the cold??? What should I be doing now? Do another batch? I only have 6 jars left. How can I practice without wasting jars?
  3. Hello, I poured some candles last night ( it took over 1 week to get my wicks in so I was dying to make some!) anyway disappointed with my batch. I made 6 candles, using different FOs and 8oz jelly jars. They are still "curing" since I am using Joy Wax. I am about to throw this wax out the window! I have sinkholes that I have to go invest in a heat gun and feel like with some of the candles, that I smell the wax instead of the FO?? Am I not using enough FO? I put in .5 oz FO for each jar maybe .7 if it was the last drop in the bottle. I only have sample 1 oz bottles. Oh, I should switch to J223?! and you're right, this is an expensive hobby, since I have to order more FOs now in bigger bottles! I really love ButterCream, Creme Brulee, Vanillas, Sugar Cookie, etc.. if you guys know who makes better than NG lmk - know some of you said Peaks is strong.. Does Cajun Candles have strong FO? So I have to usse 1.5oz FO per lb? Ahh, going to check my batch again LOL ETA : my dh told me that 1 candle is strong, and that FO is from Daystar!
  4. The glitter is safe to use on candles? Not flammable?? I have 1 of those glittering votives, one of my faves! Great idea to make. I love pink too
  5. Thank You! I was checking out Daystar's VBN. I hope it works for Joy wax, going to email her.
  6. Can you guys tell me which company makes the best Vanilla Bean Noel BBW dupe? I tried the dupe from NG and it was not close - so wanted to ask for your imput where I can find this sweet vanilla scent just like bbw's candle or lotion- this is my favorite candle in the world and it only comes once a year at BBW but I want to make it year around! I did see other sites have their own dupes but I can't test them all, if you guys can tell me your rates (5 stars). Tia!!! :grin2:
  7. The reason I wanted to use the pyrex so I can mix different FO for each candle.. if there is another way I can do that, lmk! I wanted to try to make 8 oz candles, each with different FO to practice with the wax from the big pot.
  8. sorry to bug again, but what do you guys do with the jars after you "tested" your candles? can they be reused to test again? I hate to throw them away after it's burned down! Just wondering what you guys do with old jars. I would never give them to people.. just for my use only to test/practice! if only they are any good... TIA!
  9. Thank you! I read that 20 liquid oz is 1 pound of wax so will try that.. since I have such a huge pot. I wished I got the 1 lb pot but that would be too small. I want to try coffee cans but I can't figure out how you guys put a handle on it but pyrex is a fine to try - they're cheap as well.
  10. Help... I have that big 4 lb. pour pot. I am wondering if I melt 3 lbs of wax in the 4 lb pot as double broiler, can I pour like 8 oz in the pyrex then add color, fragrance then pour in a container? Or am I making it worse by pouring it twice? If that is ok, so I can keep the wax on the stove boiling while I am mixing the 1st one then go back to the stove to pour for another container? I figure with the pyrex, it would be easier to measure! TIA!
  11. I calculated the shipping between the two and realize I would have to switch waxes.. if I order a case I can go pick it up, which is even cheaper. Thanks Julie:grin2:
  12. I guess I didn't measure right.. but duh, the bottle of FO is 1 oz, so I should just use the whole 1 oz bottle for 1 lb. wax?:embarasse
  13. Thank you... I better go order wicks to test with from Cajun Candles. I understand about testing, I would want a product that has been "tested". I have learned a lot today, not to worry. I still want to try! My family and friends will be my best testers. Thanks so much.. I thought that 2 tablespoons = 1 oz...
  14. You're kidding... test each wick with each scent? I am not going to be able to afford this after all....yike. I got the impression that zinc core wicks were fine with the mason, jelly and apothecary jars I wanted to use. and I notice the wick faq list how they use different wicks size for jars sizes...? I'm going back to read up about it again...
  15. Yes, I am glad you are here to let me know that I need to practice first LOL I am practicing and researching, researching, researching! I just realized that omg there are wick sizes for each jar size. ok I have 10 oz wide jar so that needs to be doubled wicked and the right size, a different size from the small 8 oz jar... got it now! If you double wick, do you still use the bigger size? The only thing is that the kit I have came in with hemp wicks and so far, so good with those wicks. Should I stick with hemp or move on to zinc core wicks? I will have to order more wicks for the bigger jars since all I have is the small size ones from the kits.
  16. Ok, I'm slowing down.... I plan to go to walmart to get their small jars to test with. If you know which FO isn't good, what to do, etc. lmk.. I have lots to learn!? I am measuring, I have a scale and use tablespoons for FO only. So far I have 1 slab of wax and ten FO oils to test with. I really would like to learn... I love candles.
  17. Cajun Candle is an hour away from me. I will try their votive wax. I am still wondering if this is the same wax to use for making tarts? How do you "test" candles? Buy small jars to practice with? I have made 2 batches so far, so good. I did order more FO to play with and 1 slab of container wax. I need more jars first, lol. I am really satisfied with the container wax I use, it's a beautiful pre blend mix. I want to keep using it and the wicks are perfect. Do some FO really "stronger" than others? I am thinking some scents just stronger than others.. like cherry is really strong and not vanilla... I don't want to disappoint people :embarasse If you could tell me where to learn, send me the way. I am a very very new newbie LOL:grin2:
  18. Hi, I'm new to candle making! :yay:I have always been a candle freak but gotten to the point to getting tired of buying other people candles at stores since I feel I can do it myself.. and so I bought a kit and couldn't believe how easy it was so I'm on a roll now! I started out with container candles and waiting on more jars I ordered to come in. Next I want to learn is to make votives and tarts. I did read older posts to see which wax you candlemakers prefer for votives, tarts and I got the idea it was Peaks? I can't remember.. which wax do you use for tarts.. votive wax, right? I also ordered some graphics to redesign my website and to use to make labels, and it won't be here until a couple more days so I'm dying to have labels on the containers I made. I am interested in the Brown Craft labels, do I have to order those or are they in computer stores? I do have a wholesale question, how do I compile a list of terms? I get the idea of a $ limit to 150-200 and certain amount of scents each and products but what is the rest of the legal jumbo that needs to be listed? please lmk!! I also want to learn how to make those grubby candles, they are soooo cuteeeeeee!! where can I find a link to learn?? I am soo excited:yay: to find this forum to associate with other candlemaking members!!! I hope you guys can help with my questions.. I really appreciate it. I also married wahm mom of 1 and live in South Louisiana. Carey:grin2:
