  1. Hello experts! Question: Would you consider these a successful burn? Zero soot throughout the burn, good throw, med to med-low steady flames, no mushrooming, and the jars never got excessively hot (which is something I REALLY worry about). At almost all times I could pick up these jars. I could wick up, but should I? I have a couple of other "flavors" than burned quite a bit hotter (with same size wick as those in the pictures) and there is VERY little wax on the jar (just some "droplets"), but at many points throughout the burn, I could not pick up those jars. Anyway, I just can't decide if I think there's too much wax left on these or not. It does obscure seeing the flame somewhat. Is that a big deal? (FYI Calsoy CB3). Thanks in advance for your help.
  2. Kudos to those of you that use methods that don't contribute to the planet's overwhelming garbage/excessive waste problem. Constantly throwing away plastic is especially troubling as plastic never fully deteriorates and it creates a great deal of pollution to manufacture in the first place. Also, the "disposables" add to your cost of production. Not trying to insult anyone - PLEASE don't take it as such. I'm just trying to spread some enlightenment. We have a global crisis on our hands and every little positive change we make DOES make a difference.
  3. Yankee didn't think it was stupid http://www.christmastreehill.com/farmersmarket.html I saw these this past holiday season...SOOOO cute and yummy. I think it's a great idea.
  4. Hello. Newbie question. I've read tons of these threads, and must have missed the answer to my question. When you do the re-pour, do you pour while the wax is hot (IE 185) or slushy? I'm assuming I pour while it's hot. I'm using Calsoy CB3 if that matters. Thanks!
  5. That's a good idea, thank you! I'll try anything at this point. This is making me crazy!
  6. Hello! I‘m hoping someone can help me. While I spend the required months/years learning to perfect my own candle pouring technique, I’m buying wholesale candles from a very nice lady in the Midwest. When I first started ordering, I was getting 16 oz apothecary’s with the “rusty” lids. The lids were the typical style; rusty-speckled paint, domed with handle, and nothing inside the lid - - they just kind of sat snugly on the jar. She was getting the jars/lids from New York (I think we all know who that is). So, a couple of days ago I received a large candle order and the lids are totally different (pic attached). Rust but not speckled, much flatter as opposed to domed, and a jagged plastic “fitment” inside the lid which makes the lid very difficult to remove/replace. I do not like these new lids AT ALL. The problem is, my candle maker switched to 16 oz Anchor Hocking apothecary jars and the “old style” rusty-speckled lids will not properly fit the AH jars. I desperately want the old-style lids for my product, is there one that will fit the AH jars? I was wondering if anyone knows about these lids at Candle Soylutions http://www.candlesoylutions.com/thumbnail.asp?offset=0&deep=2&cid=31 According to my candle maker, the rust lids that listed but not pictured on the Candle Soylutions site “Metal Strap Lid (CASE of 480)” are the style I don’t like, but what of the others that are pictured? Will they fit the AH jars? I called CS but haven’t heard back yet. I also tried to call C&S to find out if their rusty lids fit AH jars, but they were closed. I’m desperate to figure this out as I have deadlines to meet. Any time I have any sort of candle or soap making question, I always research this board. All of your posts have provided me a wealth of information, so I’m hoping you can help me again! Thanks in advance! T.
  7. WOW. I can't believe that!!!! A BILLION dollar business and there aren't any trade mags?!?!? That's Crazy. Well, thanks anyway for letting me know!
  8. Hello! First, I'd like to start by saying that I have been very impressed by the wealth of information that is shared on this site. Since discovering this board, I have learned a tremendous amount about the candle and soap making process as hobby and a business. I am encouraged that such a resource exists. Now, on to my question....As one that is completely new to the world of candle and soap making, I'm trying to absorb all the information I can get my hands on. Could you please direct me to some candle and soap making trade magazines/business magazines? I'm particularly interested in soy, palm, and anything organic. Thanks in advance for your help!
  9. What are the "Other" brands in the poll? Since "Other" has the most votes, I'm curious. I have Cierra Candle Making Supply in my back yard, so buying Calsoy CB3 would be convenient. However, if it's not up to snuff, then it's not worth it. I'm also looking for a wax that's produced by an enviro-friendly company. Opinions? I'm just starting the soy candle making thing, so all this info is VERY helpful. Thanks!
  10. Hello! I just made my first candle this past weekend and I'm hooked! This is what I want to do when I grow up...at least that's what I told my 18 year-old son. Anyway, I want to make my candles as natural as possible. I found one website that uses ORGANIC soy wax. Wheather or not they wholesale remains to be seen. http://lumia.us/about.html
