I have been using soy wax for several years, but I am thinking of changing to palm wax. I am not 100% happy with my votives, so I don't offer them currently at show, I make them for friends or cutomers that are willing to be test subjects. I would love to hear other peoples opinions if they have made the change.

I like using glass when I am making votives and tea-lights, since I think the pouring is easier to control and I make less of a mess.

Certain scents will upset my stomach if I smell them for too long. I try to make those scents with the windows open or if they bother me too much then I look for replacements. Nothing is more important then your health. A sale isn't worth it too me if I can't enjoy what I like to do.

My secret to not going nuts making them is using wick pins. These things keep me from getting frustrated.

I have to do the same things about costs. I try and buy in bigger bulk at one time (when I can) if I am buying something that I usually order two or three times. This really helps on the heavier items like jars, wax, and other heavy items.

I have done some very small scale private labeling. I put a code on the warning label of the candles, so that I know they are mine if there is ever any problems. I haven't had any problems to date. Currently I do the customer's labels, but I wanted to be covered in case in the future they wanted to have their own printed.

I print my lip balm labels on regular white paper and then use packaging tape to attach them to the lip blam tubes. It saves me the headache of having labels that want to slide,

I use only their shea butter base, but I do add other things to it.

I won't be much help either. I have only used SFIC and the stuff you can get in the craft stores. SFIC definitely won over in our house and with my customers. I mostly use their Shea Butter base.

Can someone direct me to where I can find a preferable square soap mold that is about .75 oz. I am currently using my rectangle guest soap tray from Milky Way and cutting them in half.

I am still testing tea-lights, but I have been using my votive wick pins. After the wax sets up I just slide my wick in the hole.

We took the plunge and bought an OKI C5150,which is a laser color printer. I have had it for about a year and a half and love it. I get lots of comments from customers about how nice my labels look.

I will put in a second vote for Oki C5150. I have had it for just over a year now. I am always printing something and I finally had to replace my color toners last fall, but the black is still going strong from when I first bought the printer.

I just use an Excel spreadsheet that list, date, name (or show), amount of $$, wholesale or retail, tax percentage, and a column for notes. I do a folder for each year. If you have a lot of sales you could even do a separate sheet for each month. I do basically the same thing for my expenses.

For me it depends on the weather. In the winter I put the pouring pot out in our unheated garage on the concrete floor. It cools down very quickly and my house doesn't smell really strong of candles. Sometimes I am making several scents that don't always mix well in the air. The most I get out there is usually 3 pots with another batch of wax melting, before the first is ready to be poured.
