  1. I hope I can explain this correctly: When I check info on wick sizes it'll say 51-21-18 2 1/2" - 3 1/2" containers; 60-44-18 3"-4" containers My question is, are those "inches" they are talking about the diameter (width) of the container?? Like a regular size pint jelly/mason jar I have no problem with, but am curious as to HOW those dimensions are measured. Do you measure the circumference around the jar with a sewing measuring tape? I have made a couple quart size mason jar candles for myself and am trying to find the right wicks (using J300). But not sure how to calculate the "inches" of the containers. Help!
  2. I do have other wax for when I make my molds, I just wondered if you could "mix" the two together without any problems: J223 on bottom and then the embeds on top ( IGI 4786- that's what I use too) didnt know if the wick would burn correctly - to hot/not hot enough) having both these waxes in the same container.
  3. I have not worked with wax embeds IN a container candle. (I have poured in the past, my own little fruit & cookie shapes to stick on top of my sundae candles). I use J223 (and now J300 until I use this batch up) and wondered if I could make my candles the way I always do, but add embeds to the top of the candle in the jar? Do embeds come scented (if I buy them already made)? Do they burn OK? I just thought it might be a nice change, plus make a cute an appealing looking candle, having fruit wax embeds (like strawberries) sitting above my strawberry scented candles, etc... And if this can be done, approximately how much should I pour of my J223 or J300? Thanks everyone!
  4. Is it only the J 50? I have been posting about my problems with the J300 (I've never used it before this past week) and I was wondering if something was wrong with this wax? (I have to top off and it just seems to look "stranger" ,than when I top off the J223 that I always use). I'm not new to candle making and really wondered to myself if the Astorlite waxes are now different in some way. Hmm!
  5. I had not thought of the "cooling" part. It is a bit cool in the kitchen (but then again, it's cool in the summer in the kitchen with the air conditioner cranked on)............. I will try the oven and see what happens. I had to chuckle when I attempted (yesterday) to try and use a heat gun (blow dryer in my case) to get rid of the slight sink-hole on the candles. What a mess!! I made more of a mess than I ever imagined. I kept hoping that no one in the family was watching me in there I have been making candles for a few years and I have never had problems before. That's what I get for trying something different. I'll stick with my J223 (but I have a load of J300 to go through first).
  6. I'm Still having problems with this wax.... Over the weekend I made several more candles with the J300, regular pint jars. Had to top off each one. I read several different supplier's "directions/heating" temperatures, as well as Astrolite's information. One place said to heat the wax to 200 degrees and pour at 180 degrees. Others said to heat to 190 degrees and pour at 150-160 degrees. I tried these and STILL had to top off. I am going to stick with what I know best: J223 Don't know what I am doing wrong! And I noticed on a couple of the candles I poured, after they sat a few hours, 2 of them had a small tiny crack near the wick. ??
  7. It figures! (J300 going away). I got mine from a place I always ordered my wax from, but he is going out of business in a couple weeks. Wonder if it (Astorlite) is getting rid of it (J300) permanently , or is it just BC?
  8. I haven't poured past the lines at the top of the jar and the sink holes aren't really big.......... but they are there and NOT flat. I poured another test candle this morning in a wide mouth kerr jar and there was a "slight" dip, nothing major, but still a "dip", so topped it off with the remaining wax I set aside just -in-case. Don't know what I am doing wrong.
  9. I have been a die hard J223 user and love it. I just received J300 and have not used this before. I read up on it and saw that it "supposedly" does not require a topping off, if it's a single color candle. I poured a test candle last night into a pint regular mouth canning jar and it DID require topping off. I heated the wax to the temp it said to, and my jar was warmed as well. Wonder if using a wide mouth would be different?? This wax looks so smooth and pretty and cold throw is great. I went with J300 this time because I really wanted to get away from the topping off, but might just stick with the J223. Anyone have any info/advice as to topping off? (I also am testing the wick with this wax.... 51-32-18z. With J223 I always use 44-32-18 with no problems so I hope this wick does well). Thanks ALL!
  10. The J223 does last much longer when I pour it into a small 4oz jar or baby food jar, than the votive wax does. 8-10 hours is about what I have gotten out of the tarts (votive) but I had been curious as to other people's experience with them. Thanks!
  11. What is the approxiamte lenght of time a 1 oz tart throws off scent? I drop them into a little jar & heat 'em on an electric warmer and have done so for years. But it seems that they lose their scent quicker now-a-days. I use j223 (if I make 4 oz wickless) and a votive wax when I use the 1 oz mold. Thanks all!
  12. I normally was geting my J223 from a supplier in WA and he told me they (Astorlite) were not going to be producing it any longer, along with the IGI. So when I checked out Peak, and heard something similar I figured I was out of luck (until I saw the performance blend). Hooray.
  13. Hi All, It has been a while since I have been on here (and had to re-register in fact) but this new look is great. I was surprised to hear that Astorlite is going the way of the dinosaurs (?)........ and freaked out a bit over it. (I love the J223). So I ordered the new performance something or other from Peak and it looks and feels like the J223. Has anyone used this? I havent poured anything yet (I just rec'd the wax yesterday but have an order for 25 candles so I'll be using it SOON).
